To be embarrassed my deodorant didn't work today?

So I was trapped in the office exceeding 30 degrees. It was unbearable. I tried a new deodorant this morning and by this afternoon I could smell body odour on myself. I'm so embarrassed. It's a fairly new job too.

OP posts:
Lockheart · 21/07/2021 22:23

I really doubt anyone noticed OP. Your colleagues won't tend to get as close to you as your nose is to be able to smell (and if they do, talk to HR Grin).

Lots of people smell a bit of body odour by the end of the day, it's fairly normal and mostly will only be noticed by themselves. Especially in weather like this!

TiggeryBear · 21/07/2021 22:23

It's one of those horrible things that happens. 🤷‍♀️ honestly though, everyone was likely in a similar position today so don't stress it.

Polmuggle · 21/07/2021 22:24

@fucketyfuckwit

You want Mitchum!!
Mitchum doesn't work on me, only one that makes me smell of BO by the end
idontlikealdi · 21/07/2021 22:27

You need triple dry or driclor. It's not acceptable to be whiffs in an office, sorry.

StrawBeretMoose · 21/07/2021 22:27

Was it the peach lidded Sanex? I always stink of BO with that.

OMG @TokenGinger I actually sniffed the bottle to see if it had a BO 'fragrance', it was grim.

Dove can be a bit hit and miss, Sure cotton fresh works for me and Mitchum is better in summer, have been using the unscented but prefer the powder smell one.

OP don't be embarrassed by a one-off but in this heat maybe bring some baby wipes and anti perspirant with you, even a clean top in your bag if it helps. You don't have to say you have BO if you change your top, say you spilt something.

Mrsjayy · 21/07/2021 22:28

You really need Mitchum 🙂 but try and not get to concerned everybody would have been too concerned with their own overhearing to notice you. It's hell hot we are all sweaty!

pleasedonttextmyman · 21/07/2021 22:28

it's a one-off. It really doesn't matter.

Mrsjayy · 21/07/2021 22:30

My DD works in a shop she swears by the Mitchum gel. I use the powder smell one it's fine

NewlyGranny · 21/07/2021 22:30

Mitchum all the way for me, for years now. I love the fragrance free because who wants a deodorant competing with your perfume? (Kai, in the summer).

Every time I'm tempted to travel back in time, I'm put off by thoughts of no antibiotics, no hair conditioner, no hot showers, no dental anaesthesia and no deodorant!

Notaroadrunner · 21/07/2021 22:30

I think she's well aware of that, hence the reason she's embarrassed.

I have found Mitchum is the best. I use the unscented roll on and wait til it's full dry before putting on a top.

NiceGerbil · 21/07/2021 22:31

Don't be embarrassed.

It's fucking hot.

Any men in your office? IME big sweat stains round pits, and sometimes back are not unusual when it's this hot.

You're a human being. Anyone who noticed (if they even did!) will have thought nothing of it as it's really hot!

BertieBob · 21/07/2021 22:31

I had this problem until I switched to Mitchum based upon the Mumsnet recommendation years ago. It was a game changer. I will not use anything else now, I have not had an issue with BO since.

Kintsugi16 · 21/07/2021 22:31

Are you sure it wasn’t your clothes?
I’ve noticed certain man made fabrics really smell when they heat up again

Lockheart · 21/07/2021 22:33

She's hardly turned up in dirty clothes fresh from a 10k run having not showered in three days though has she?

Even the cleanest people will start to lose their freshness by the end of the day, it's normal.

thinkingaboutitall · 21/07/2021 22:34

Sorry but ignore everyone else, the sure maximum cream deodorant is the one you need

No odour, no wet patches.

Also don’t fret - it happens to the best of us. As it’s a new job it will be easily forgotten as no one at work is paying that much attention to you

StandsForComfort · 21/07/2021 22:34

@OnTheBoardwalk why no cream bars like Dove? Do they make you sweat more?

NiceGerbil · 21/07/2021 22:34

Was it fresh sweat smell or stale sweat smell?

Fresh sweat is again.. ok women are somehow supposed not to sweat unless specifically exercising but again.. so hot! And I don't think it's an offensive smell anyway.

If it was more stale then you need to change how you wash your clothes. They can trap the smell and it comes out when they warm up.

With so many women's things saying really gentle and 30 that can be a prob.

Mrsjayy · 21/07/2021 22:35

Also I have a small packet of antibacterial handwipes in my bags they are great in an emergency .

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 21/07/2021 22:36

After having an experience like this myself I always have supplies in my work bag now, so baby wipes, a dry flannel in a ziplock bag in case I need to wet it, deodorant and a body spray.

Dettol laundry gets rid of bacteria that can cause clothes to smell, Ds2's school shirts need this.

Sorry this happened to you, everyone is baking at the minute. I cannot imagine that a lot of offices/work places have air conditioning.

robotcollision · 21/07/2021 22:37

@Ingvermama

Haha it's doesn't stop sweating or swearing Grin
I love the idea of a deodorant that just doesn't stop swearing. All day long at the hospital your armpits are just effing and blinding away. Grin
mumwon · 21/07/2021 22:45

If you were sweating &felt a bit whiffy I doubt anybody else noticed - they were probably thinking about their own whiff

Mummy7777 · 21/07/2021 22:45

Mitcham didn't work for me but Sure does..

Builderscrack · 21/07/2021 22:48

PitROK- I swear it works.

Trust me on this.
I’m still not over a BO incident 20 years ago, we’re talking stale nervous trainee teacher style sweat on a SATIN SHIRT I WORE TWO DAYS ON THE TROT (Why?? I still ask myself )

The upshot is that I (accidentally, quite clearly) thrust an armpit into my mentor’s face. He recoiled. Disgusted. Ironically, I still sweat at the memory.

PitROK works which is bizarre as it’s basically just salt. It amazes me.

Builderscrack · 21/07/2021 22:53

I must add that I agree with everyone saying Mitchum. I used it for years, and I get that natural deodorants generally don’t work and you don’t want to risk it, but this stuff I mentioned (don’t want to repeat the name as it sounds like I’m trying to sell it!!) genuinely amazes old sweaty Betty over here. I’d recommend it for anyone who wants something natural and also not BO

Bryna · 21/07/2021 22:55

@DoItAfraid I use a natural one too, this one
