To be embarrassed my deodorant didn't work today?

So I was trapped in the office exceeding 30 degrees. It was unbearable. I tried a new deodorant this morning and by this afternoon I could smell body odour on myself. I'm so embarrassed. It's a fairly new job too.

I use sure roll on and never had a problem, I had to stop using Mitchum as it really irritated my skin and it got very nippy putting it on.

ChilliChoco · 21/07/2021 22:58

So excited to buy Mitchum now.
Dove, Sanex and Nivea all not great

ChilliChoco · 21/07/2021 23:00

@Bryna But you still get wet patches with deoadrants like that

XenoBitch · 21/07/2021 23:00

Humans sweat, and bacteria feed on that sweat. No reason to be embarrassed, it is natural. Smelling of BO on a stupidly hot day is not out the ordinary.

I can second using the Sure Maximum Protection one that you put on the night before. Is good stuff.

Killahangilion · 21/07/2021 23:00

I’ve stopped wearing deodorants and antiperspirants as they all seem to give me a rash now. I mostly wipe my armpits with a damp cloth several times a day and shower am and pm when it’s really hot.

@fucketyfuckwit

You want Mitchum!!
This. But I still had to wash my pits and reapply mid afternoon today.

Summer is fun Grin

rosalie11 · 21/07/2021 23:03

Use a roller and spray and anti bacterial soap

bringincrazyback · 21/07/2021 23:06

@idontlikealdi

You need triple dry or driclor. It's not acceptable to be whiffs in an office, sorry.
Good grief. Would the OP really have posted this if she thought it was OK?

I wouldn't sweat it, OP (sorry, couldn't resist! Grin ) - it's happened to me and to other people I know, especially in the sort of heat we're having lately.

Daisy829 · 21/07/2021 23:11

I use Mitchum but I still smell at the end of the day at the moment. It’s just so bloody hot! I think everyone’s a bit smelly right now.

Northernsoullover · 21/07/2021 23:18

Don't be embarrassed. After my shower this morning I thought I would nip out quickly before starting work to get a coffee. Then I had some visits to go on, and after my third I sat in the car and caught a waft of BO. It dawned on me then that I hadn't even applied any bloody deodorant!
I'm using the sure maximum too and it's amazing but because I was hurriedly going to the shop I didn't put any on because I didn't have time for it to dry. Then forgot. On the hottest day of the year.

DespairingHomeowner · 21/07/2021 23:47

@RainbowBriteUk

Sanex too so I thought it would be decent
Sanex does not work for me either

Try Sure or Dove

I think your colleagues will assume it’s a 1-off, not that you are a smelly beast

XenoBitch · 21/07/2021 23:49

What is wrong with wet patches?

We are human, we sweat.

ZooKeeper19 · 21/07/2021 23:49

@Yesitsbess any advice on rucksack straps? Other than washing the bag every other day... Would the vodka treatment work on its own (vodka only leave overnight)?

PickAChew · 21/07/2021 23:49

No, it's crap. Been using it on Ds2 as it is fairly gentle but had to order something a bit more nuclear for him because he's been making my eyes water, this week.

PickAChew · 21/07/2021 23:51

Used to have a colleague who did that.

He stunk.

Yesitsbess · 21/07/2021 23:54

@ZooKeeper19 I can ask her? I think watered down vodka might work for that? Or you may end up smelling like an off license...

Sanitary towel straps? I will ask her tomorrow...

justasking111 · 21/07/2021 23:57

I'm always cold don't sweat normally but in this heat I'm dripping. Long hair I'm washing lightly every morning. Running down my back, my thighs. I'm remembering the deodorant straight out of the shower before I go off stinking 🤣🤣

Haffiana · 22/07/2021 00:04

Mitchum vs Sure Maximum review:

Both used the most effective way, that is after a shower at night before bed, and with washing armpits with soap and water as usual between applications.

Longevity:
Mitchum lasts for almost 48 hours. Smell breaks through by late afternoon on the second day unless I have been completely sedentary and often even then. 5/10 for longevity
I can actually get 3 whole days from Sure Maximum and managed part of a fourth day on a couple of occasions when I have forgotten to put it on. It is quite hard to remember when to reapply as you have to keep a 3 day tally in your head! 10/10 longevity

Scent:
I am a perfume buff and I do not want my choice of perfume of the day ruined by a cheap toiletry scent.
The only Mitchum that is available in the unscented version is the roll-on which takes HOURS to dry and transfers onto my sleepwear making it crunchy under the arms. Still odourless however. 9/10 for making a scentless version, but 1/10 for it only being in the wet, sticky roll-on format.
Sure Maximum goes on completely dry with no stickiness whatsoever. It is only available (strongly) scented. All the scents are harsh and disgusting with the 'clean' version being the most vile, and is in fact possibly the worst scent ever invented. Even my perfume-oblivious DS2 refused to use the 'clean' scent.

The scents are strong because the base product has its own slight chemical smell and the scents are needed to cover this up. HOWEVER Sure Max is such a good deodorant that I have trained myself to bear the 'confidence' scent (and I have learned to bury my armpits under the duvet away from my nose after application AND it is only once every 3 days after all!) and it has more or less vanished by the time I wake up in the morning. 1/10 but worth it.

Winner: Sure Maximum

Haffiana · 22/07/2021 00:07

Oh, and always wash armpits with proper bar soap, not shower gel and not Dove 'cream' bars. It makes all the difference to armpit odour. Same for feet or any other problem area as well - using soap really makes a difference.

Crimeismymiddlename · 22/07/2021 00:13

Mitchum is your friend, sanex does not work.

iluvalfredo · 22/07/2021 00:29

Don't even worry about it OP. Happens to the best of us. I'm lying in bed, naked, with fan on full power, window open sweating my tits off, never mind in an office in clothes with no air con. I do a roll on deodorant and then a spray deodorant on top of that if that would maybe help for next time?

Newestname001 · 22/07/2021 00:30

When I commuted to work in offices on scorching days like it's been recently, I used to carry two flannels in little ziplock bags. One dampened with a little rose scented soap and the other plain water in a small flat Tupperware so I could have a minor wash and rinse in the cubicle at work. Used to use the flannels on the inner underarm seam of the top/dress I was wearing as well. Followed up with Mitchum stick. Always felt fresher afterwards. 🌹

Lillipops · 22/07/2021 00:33

Mitchum 100%!

Staffy1 · 22/07/2021 00:53

I don’t find Mitchum that great. I’ll be trying the Sure maximum to compare.
