Would you be bothered if someone said bloody in front of your 11 year old?

Not really thinking, at a party. No younger kids heard. Would you be overly offended? It wasn't me or my child involved but I think at 11 I wouldn't have minded my children hearing that. What's everyone else's thoughts?

Yes, I would've hated it. No swearing should happen around children.

toffeeandcream · 19/07/2021 09:27

No. Are they not allowed to watch Harry Potter then as 11-year-old Ron Weasley is always saying ‘bloody hell’ Grin

Hankunamatata · 19/07/2021 09:28

One of my fav words when I'm cross/frustrated. Ds8 tells me off Grin

PiccalilliChilli · 19/07/2021 09:28

I married into a family that swears regularly. I was shocked at first but I got used to it.

My DD has grown up listening to her Ddad and DGrandad using this language but has never used it herself (in front of us).

I draw the line at the C-word. They say the C-word and I tell them off. Anachronistic misogyny.

Sally872 · 19/07/2021 09:28

Wouldn't be bothered at all. Even if the word was worse or the child was younger. As long as they weren't routinely swearing in front of my child slipping up once in a while is am accident not something I would be offended about.

Hankunamatata · 19/07/2021 09:29

First year of high school has been very illuminating for ds12. He hai ed a whole new swear vocabulary ConfusedGrin

Hankunamatata · 19/07/2021 09:29

He gained

LubaLuca · 19/07/2021 09:31

It isn't even swearing to me. I never hear young people saying bloody though, and I don't think I did until I was in my 30s. I know when I saw Ron Weasley saying it in a Harry Potter film, it sounded unrealistic.

DufferMum · 19/07/2021 09:31

Always been a bit sweaty, DH gave me “bloody” when the children were born although have tried to avoid anything stronger. DC grew up hearing it and therefore have never used it, although 15yo DD recently discovered “Fuck!”

GintyMcGinty · 19/07/2021 09:31

No

DufferMum · 19/07/2021 09:32

Sweary not sweaty, that last post made no sense whatsoever😀

Blue4YOU · 19/07/2021 09:33

Being Irish and hearing lots of swearing I genuinely didn’t know people considered “bloody” to be a swear word until I was in my late thirties 😳.
Too bloody late now

Caspianberg · 19/07/2021 09:36

I didn’t even know it was a ‘swear’ word. It’s what I thought most people said in front of children instead of ‘f sake’ etc.

I definitely said it this morning in front of Ds age 1 when the dishwasher broke after the oven already did last week.

Youdiditanyway · 19/07/2021 09:38

It’s a very mild swear word, a bit like crap. I’m sure most 11 year old’s have heard much worse.

TheTallOakTrees · 19/07/2021 09:43

No I wouldn't clutch my pearls for that.

LST · 19/07/2021 09:45

Wow as if there a few who would care!

Ohanaa · 19/07/2021 09:47

No not at all.

I wouldn’t even class it as a sweary word

toffeeandcream · 19/07/2021 09:55

Lol I’m glad someone else mentioned Ron Weasley as he’s literally what I think of whenever I hear anyone say ‘bloody’ 😂

AfterSchoolWorry · 19/07/2021 09:56

No way lol

My 9 year old wouldn't turn a hair. She can curse with the best of them

AfterSchoolWorry · 19/07/2021 09:58

It wasn't until I went to the UK a few years back I realised they are totally different to us about swearing.

I was astonished to discover average people are offended by every day curses!

Noshowlomo · 19/07/2021 10:00

No, i say worse in front of my two year old

Blue4YOU · 19/07/2021 10:03

@AfterSchoolWorry
I know!! I felt like a right muppet.
Another shock to me was that saying “hell” was frowned upon. I mean I know people who can’t string a sentence together without a few fucks in it

ThanksIGotItInMorrisons · 19/07/2021 10:11

Please find something else to concern yourself over. If you think you’re kids aren’t using worse language on their own with their friends, you are wrong. This is such a non issue. Are you very strict bordering on controlling with your kids? Do you police their actions and activities?? Seems such a nothing thing to be concerning yourself with enough to write about it online.

thewreckingcrew · 19/07/2021 10:14

No I don't really get my knickers a in twist about mild swearing, especially around older children.

Some people are really uptight about it though, I have a couple of friends who don't approve, even though their children are secondary school age. And my sister once gave me a bollocking for saying "it was like hell on earth" in front of her 8 year old, because apparently hell is a swear word, and not just an imaginary place you go when you die 🙄

Viviennemary · 19/07/2021 10:15

No. How silly.
