Ditching my mask from today except for in hospital settings

Clearly this is fine legally speaking but AIBU to expect not to be asked to wear a mask from today onwards? I’ll wear one when attending hospital/doctors appointments but that’s it that’s were i draw the line. I shouldn’t be expected to explain myself right? I’ve wore a mask from the beginning and stuck to every rule. I won’t be rushing out to go to nightclubs as I didn’t do that before covid and i don’t suddenly feel the need to surround myself (closely) with lots of other people but I am looking forward to taking my daughter shopping and going to the cinema without having to wear a mask.

@UsedUpUsername

My partner has to wear a mask while I’m giving birth, and you’re complaining about having to wear one while sitting on your bum, staring at yourself in a mirror getting your greys covered? People have lost all fucking perspective

So have you.

My DH also had to wear one during my delivery. So maybe instead of getting angry at other people for not wearing one, you should maybe be angry about these idiotic rules forcing masks on otherwise healthy people like I am.

Surely you know that he was asked to wear a mask to protect staff and other potentially clinically vulnerable women and babies in the delivery suite? It doesn't matter if you are healthy, its about preventing the spread of covid from perhaps asymptomatic people to babies and birthing women.
Beendownthisroadmorethantwice · 19/07/2021 08:31

I’d quite like to see a study that shows the link between mask refusal and shocking grammar.

Mumtotwofurbabies · 19/07/2021 08:31

I will still wear a mask in crowded indoor spaces, personal choice, but dont think shops etc should be forcing people to wear them as it’s no longer a legal requirement

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 19/07/2021 08:31

I think I might post this on every page of all threads like this. So that people can make informed decisions.

Ditching the mask will put other people at risk. Doing so shows contempt for other people. They will learn something about the sort of person you are.

BetterCare · 19/07/2021 08:33

Private businesses can refuse entry to whomever they want. If they want you to wear a mask and you refuse they, in turn, can refuse you entry and service.

They legally have the right to do that.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 19/07/2021 08:33

@MrsTulipTattsyrup oh bore off!

Kayjay2018 · 19/07/2021 08:33

@Ultimatecougar I understand that with the doctors and nurses, there are receptionists and admin staff too, although they are usually behind Perspex. The sheer number of people going through a supermarket on and hourly basis compared to a doctors surgery, I think increases the risk for supermarket workers (if you think of the overall risk as number of contacts a day vs proximity).

LemonRoses · 19/07/2021 08:33

I think it’s incredibly selfish and short sighted, to be honest.

butterpuffed · 19/07/2021 08:33

@Violetroselily

OP, what is the point of this thread?
It was obviously to wind people up. She was on here for an hour , plenty of time to do that Hmm
Grumpylate20s · 19/07/2021 08:34

Okay so here's the thing OP I let my guard down and now I am paying the consequences, had 2 jabs but have tested positive for covid, feel dog rough and have done 4 days now .. just be cautious cos covid is still a thing it certainly hasn't waved good bye.. its here to stay!!

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 19/07/2021 08:34

It’s factual. I’m sorry if it doesn’t fit what you want to do, but it’s the reality of the situation. Make sure that you’re making decisions based on the right factors.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 19/07/2021 08:34
@LucyLockhearts I was being sarky. How effective are masks when we’ve got a 40k case rate.
We could perhaps answer that question if everyone was actually wearing masks. As it stands, not everyone does.

Wanttocry · 19/07/2021 08:34

Shops will be happy to turn maskless people away to keep their staff safe.

Shops haven’t been doing that for the last year though.
Waterstones specifically said staff would not enforce masks
John Lewis & Waitrose said it was encouraged but was personal choice
Aldi have said staff won’t enforce masks
Asda have said they “encourage” customers to wear masks
Lidl said they would not require masks but would have signs encouraging.
Sainsbury’s says it’s encourage but personal choice. They are also removing screens between self checkout tills and regular queues.
Tesco said they encourage it.
Primark have said they are removing mask signage.

None of this sounds like any of these shops will turn people away.

ilovesooty · 19/07/2021 08:34

@Imnothereforthedrama

Do you know I’ve not took my son to a shop since masks were required as he’s exempt.Obviously we’ve been to places but it’s not necessary for him to go to a shop . I was trying to avoid the looks but to be fair nobody has said anything I think most can tell why . So I’m glad that won’t be a issue now . I’ll use my judgment as I have throughout. I doubt very much shops will be challenging people and refusing entry they give up on that ages ago anyway when it was mandatory so what hope do they have now . You may hear the odd person stopped but after a few times they’ll give up .
Previously I believed people who weren't wearing masks were exempt as a default.

Now I'm afraid I'll be wondering how many are knobs or liars. I don't like having that thought in my head which is another good reason to stay away from public places as much as possible.

DrSbaitso · 19/07/2021 08:34

@Frittataz

I get what you’re saying but to call me selfish for wanting to do something I’m legally allowed to do is bit harsh.
Eh? It's entirely legal to be selfish. The law extends only so far. Did you think selfishness was actually criminal?

If you don't want to wear your mask, don't. Just accept that when you're on private property, they can also choose to deny you entry. And yes, shop workers who are exposed to this all day will likely think badly of you for it, as do I and many others.

You've got the right not to wear a mask. You don't have the right to overturn rules of entry, or to police what people think of you as a result.

Hankunamatata · 19/07/2021 08:34

I will be wearing on shops to protect staff in the shops

NooNotJohnAmaechi · 19/07/2021 08:35

I need a voting button!!

Tal45 · 19/07/2021 08:35

You sound like a petulant child OP. Supermarkets don't have to let you in because it's legal not to wear a mask. I know of supermarkets saying that men aren't allowed in topless and people aren't allowed in in their pj's or barefoot. As far as I'm aware it's not illegal to be any of those things but as it's their shop so it's up to them.

whenwillthemadnessend · 19/07/2021 08:35

My work (tourist attraction) are insisting on masks

I'm REALLY NOT looking forward to the arguments to come I've r try e next few months.

Taking them away legally is a huge mistake by the govt and is a massive cop out.

What an articulate post 😂

@MrsTulipTattsyrup thanks for posting the stats, very helpful.

DrSbaitso · 19/07/2021 08:36

To be honest, if you can accept and understand the need for masks in clinical environments, I don't see why you wouldn't think the same principles apply in other settings. Especially if you're trying to prevent people from ending up in a clinical environment...

ifonly4 · 19/07/2021 08:36

You'll need to wear one in pharmacies, and that includes the healthcare section of places like Superdrug/Boots.

awaywiththefae · 19/07/2021 08:36

@bendmeoverbackwards

YABVU

Yes it may not be a legal requirement but if you are a decent and sensible human being you will continue to wear one. What exactly did you want from this thread, a pat on the back?

God how have we got to this?!

Decent human being, flipping hell.

That’s how they do it, turn us on each other. Who needs police when you can rely on members of the public to shame people into wearing them.

Also, my neighbour has had people around constantly since lockdown, not paid attention to any rules, people constantly in and out during lockdown 1 and beyond. She wears a mask when popping out though! Just because people are outwardly conforming doesn’t mean they haven’t been having covid parties every weekend.

awaywiththefae · 19/07/2021 08:38

Mask Stasi 🤣

You’re right, it’s a massive cop out. Removing the law but still saying they expect people to wear them? Such a blatant attempt to avoid criticism from both sides - and actually all it’s achieved is the opposite.
