My nan was convinced evil spirits would lurk about at night so any clothes left out would attract them. She'd stick them on a 90° super hot wash to cleanse them.

Apparently my family get really fed up of me trying to coerce them in to the shower earlier than they are ready to, so that I can have their clothes from the day to wash and hang out before I go to bed. The machine has about 15 minutes left now And then I’ll be hanging it out to get darked on.

I don’t have time to hang it out in the morning before work, (unless I get up 15 minutes earlier, which isn’t happening) so I will have to take the risk with the spider willies.

I'm now seeing evil spirits partying in stolen smalls in a kind of Rocky Horror-esque parody...

@LadyMaid it's when you leave your washing out overnight and the dark gets on it. It's also when spiders like to come out and rub their willies on your clean (but darked on) washing. HTH

If mine was still with us she would likely have disowned me for this I think!

@greenlabelchutney I wouldn’t dry MY body with them. Use them for the dogs or for guests.

The only way I can cope with two under two, a farmer awol filthy DH and four dogs is to do this and never, ever tell a soul. I live in his family farm and they all think I hang it out during a night feed at four am, shhhhh.

Good grief woman, it's the Sabbath, whatever will the neighbours think to see you doing the washing? You know the designated day is Monday.

And it will get darked on and those immoral spiders will be rubbing their bits all over it...

I've just brought mine in. I couldn't leave it out overnight. I wouldn't be able to relax knowing it was out there. I have absolutely no idea why!

OMG. You can't hang towels out at night because then spider willies go on the material that touches your bottom. GROSS. I wouldn't be able to sleep.

Mine’s out. I do this most evenings. I’m hoping some will be dry by the morning for school.
