AIBU to be annoyed that Boris Johnson is not isolating?

MN please don’t put this in the coronavirus topic. Is about the difference in rules. Things to consider: as people know who he is and the news, vulnerable people will be able to avoid him but should he set an example? Also there are hundreds of thousands of people isolating and missing out on well deserved holidays. Including a teacher’s daughter on her third isolation so the teacher can’t go.

AIBU = he should not isolate
AINBU = he should isolate

I’m deleting the app now too. DH was pinged this week but when you worked out the days he hadn’t been anywhere literally anywhere outside of the house that day or two days either side. But still expected to isolate

What do you do about going into places who insist you scan? Recently I’ve had staff actually watch me do it on my phone!

KeflavikAirport · 18/07/2021 14:05

Your daily reminder that people are NOT voting for these clowns, they got a a minority of the vote, their stonking majority is all down to FPTP.

Appletreehat · 18/07/2021 14:24

Nothing surprises me anymore regarding Boris, he has been caught out many times now, I have zero trust in this government.

Mayra1367 · 18/07/2021 14:32

Absolutely disgusting!
My husband got pinged , he’s self employed so no we will be down money in August/September. He has no symptoms, nor does anyone he knows so doesn’t know why he was pinged . He’s isolating as per the rules but maybe he should do daily lateral flow too . We have both deleted the app . The government have no credibility at all .

Echobelly · 18/07/2021 14:37

I think anyone who's had an isolation without developing symptoms is just going to give up if they get subsequent ones, especially as they're talking about dropping them altogether for double vaxed people in mid August.

whatdoidonowffs · 18/07/2021 14:48

Why shouldn’t they have special treatment?
Surely the role of PM even if you don’t agree with who is in that role is important enough to warrant it

MadeOfStarStuff · 18/07/2021 14:52

YANBU

At a time when half a million people were pinged to isolate by the app and when many workplaces are struggling due to numbers of staff isolating, it smacks of one rule for us and one for them. Which is why they so quickly backed down. But the fact that they even considered this a reasonable course of action in the first place just shows how out of touch they all are.

Why can't he work from home, whilst isolating?

He will get paid whatever, so someone who is not going to get paid and potentially cause them a massive issue not working and mean they can't properly feed their children is less important?

I don't think so.

Anyway he's been shamed into isolating, the bloody idiot that he is.

And his spreading the virus is ok is it?

Because he's "important".

Restaurants, it's the law that you either scan in or leave your contact details. I'm somebody who thinks the system is important, but if you really want to avoid it, it's not rocket science to work out how.

In my job I have to ask people to scan in, and it probably looks like I watch them do it because, well, I'm standing there and where would you like me to be looking while I'm running through everything else I have to say to you when you enter the building? But it's not a legal requirement and if you don't want to we can't make you. Nobody so far has refused though.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 18/07/2021 15:07

I lost 7 days salary when I had to isolate, as I'm on a 0 hours contract. And I am not entitled to the gov "grant" for people self isolating. I can't work from home due to the nature of my job, so no pay.

I am glad they've now said they will isolate but seriously, fire your PR. Obviously this was a very fucking stupid idea.

Because when barnard bloody castle happened huge numbers of people stopped seeing why they should follow the rules. It's well known and documented. Blody Stpid Johnson (the PM, no the MN user or the adoraoble fictional character) either knows this and doesn't give a shit, or is doing it deliberately. Neither scenario is great...
LemonRoses · 18/07/2021 15:35

Just seen he's off to Le Grand Bleu again - we wondered when he would pop over, since its been anchored in the Solent for a few weeks. A PM who sidles up quite so comfortably to Russian oligarchs is a concern even without his need to isolate.

I can't believe you are serious?

Have you never heard of leading by example?

Mayra1367 · 18/07/2021 15:56

Unlike many people Boris has all the technology/ office space available to work from home . Yes he has an important job but covid isn’t aware of how important he is , he can still spread it .
No exemptions just because you are PM . Everyone needs to follow the rules .

CoRhona · 18/07/2021 16:26

Quote from the twat in charge:

We did look briefly into the idea of us taking part in the pilot scheme which allows people to test daily, but I think it’s far more important that everybody sticks to the same rules.

That’s why I’m going to be self-isolating until the 26 July.

Such a bullshitter. 🤬

Port1aCastis · 18/07/2021 16:33

If Bozo comes to my neck of the woods he'll almost certainly be given special treatment, he was actually in receipt of exceptional treatment last time he visited this neck of the woods in the form of a few flying kippers.

I voted Conservative but am very unimpressed by BJ. However, I think that's pushing the definition of minority based on the numbers below which are based on actual votes (rather than seats):

2019 election
Con 13.9 million 43.6%
Labour 10.3 million 32.2%
Lib Dem 3.7 million 11.5%

Youdiditanyway · 18/07/2021 16:36

Yet people will keep voting for him because he got Brexit done and Labour vacillate while he vaccinates Hmm.

They might change their minds about their support for Brexit if the supermarket shelves get any emptier!
KeflavikAirport · 18/07/2021 17:49

43% is a minority is it not? And that's only of the voting population, not the population as a whole. If we had PR we would be under a Labour coalition right now.

agapanthus1979 · 18/07/2021 17:52

@Sycamoretrees

YABU simply for not putting this in the coronavirus topic your self.
Surely this is about the shocking hypocrisy of this government, rather than Covid?

@KeflavikAirport

It's not a minority when no party polled a greater number of votes, irrespective of turnout. I'd agree with your assertion had Labour received more votes than the Tories. But definitely not once you start adding in a coalition to get your "majority".
KeflavikAirport · 18/07/2021 17:58

I think we are at cross purposes. My point is, more people voted not Tory than they did Tory.

StealthPolarBear · 18/07/2021 18:07

What does a pm need to do that can't be done from home for ten days?
Also where are all the people telling him to take it easy and it's his boss's problem to sort (with a temp maybe from an agency), that's why he gets paid the big bucks.
