AIBU to be annoyed that Boris Johnson is not isolating?

MN please don’t put this in the coronavirus topic. Is about the difference in rules. Things to consider: as people know who he is and the news, vulnerable people will be able to avoid him but should he set an example? Also there are hundreds of thousands of people isolating and missing out on well deserved holidays. Including a teacher’s daughter on her third isolation so the teacher can’t go.

AIBU = he should not isolate
AINBU = he should isolate

I'm on day 9 of isolation and seriously thinking of going out tomorrow after hearing this. I've been fine, no symptoms, tested negative, double jabbed. Fuck this for a game of soldiers.

Arrowheart · 18/07/2021 10:05

@Theluggage15

They just disgust me. Anyone thinking it’s fine is bonkers but then I’d assume that even if they committed murder there would be some people who would support them.
I agree. The things this government do are indefensible now. Anyone who thinks this is ok is as bad as they are and must also be part of the entitled 'the rules don't apply to me' team.
Tinpotspectator · 18/07/2021 10:07

True enough

4PawsGood · 18/07/2021 10:09

I think he doesn’t need any more barriers to running the country, he’s doing a poor enough job as it is.
There are ‘normal’ people in the study too so he’s not getting special treatment.
Plus he’s had it. He’s very unlikely to get it again.

Orf1abc · 18/07/2021 10:09

I feel sorry for the test and trace workers too. How many people are going to either completely ignore them, or insist they want to do this pilot scheme? It's incredibly difficult to enforce rules when the people at the top are picking and choosing as they see fit.

TooWicked · 18/07/2021 10:10

It’s just unbelievable.

I’m done. Deleted the app, no more scanning in anywhere, DH and DS have deleted it from their phones too.

We have plenty of LFT tests here at home, happy to test daily if we are aware we’ve been in contact with someone, but we won’t be isolating again. I suspect lots of people will take the same approach going forward.

TumbyTumm · 18/07/2021 10:10

So ‘read paperwork and sit in meetings’ jobs are prioritised for the pilot study to protect in-person working - while operations and trains are being cancelled due to app pings?

It’s revolution levels of revolting.

Pissinthepottyplease · 18/07/2021 10:13

Gove managed to get himself on the same trial.

As numbers are rising so quickly how can these trials be monitored?

I know of GPs on the trial. Imagine how many vulnerable people they will see.

Katekarate · 18/07/2021 10:15

YANBU it's an absolute pisstake. And how many people will think well I'm not doing it if he's not. And how many will now delete NHS app.

carcarbinks · 18/07/2021 10:18

I will refuse to self isolate if asked. They can arrest me for all I care.

ichundich · 18/07/2021 10:22
@ichundich did you read the article? Its one woman from Dubai who was hoping to circumnavigate the requirements to quarantine by travelling via Mallorca.
Yes, she has to isolate regardless of vaccination status and those 10 days could make the difference between seeing her father alive one last time or not. But I guess "her bad" for moving abroad; why didn't she just stay in wonderful Brexit Britain!

PurpleDaisies · 18/07/2021 10:23

The public health message this sends is shocking.

Port1aCastis · 18/07/2021 10:27

It may be a crafty plot, bozo doesn't isolate so lots of people delete the app in disgust and then all the ping figures that have been so high in the past week go down, ergo bozo makes a big hoo ha speech on TV joyous at not so many people self isolating and hails himself and his cronarati as heroes for getting the likes of nissan or the London tube et al fully operational again
Job done!

So have I. Does that mean I can ignore T&T.

What good luck both Boris and Rishi are in the same randomly assigned trial.

Ilikeviognier · 18/07/2021 10:28

I’m raging. My 5 year old has to miss his last week of reception next week (when he’s already missed so much school) due to self isolating but Boris can do what he likes? “Special trial” my ass.

It’s horrifying that this is plausible. What has this country come to.
LadyPoison · 18/07/2021 10:39

It's clearly been one rule for us and one for them right from the start.

No wonder we're seeing so many people now opening ignoring the rules. They may as well ditch all remaining restrictions and be done with it.

drpet49 · 18/07/2021 10:41

What do people expect when they voted in this joke mess of a prime minister.

crankysaurus · 18/07/2021 10:43

Honestly, I see this as a massive two fingers up at the rest of us. 'Leading by example' like this will mean many others just won't bother self isolating and I'm sure they realise this.

LittleBearPad · 18/07/2021 10:47

News just in! Boris and Rishi are now going to isolate.

Nothing like a bit of clear sighted strong leadership.

🤬🤯

Katekarate · 18/07/2021 10:52

Damage is done though isn't it. Fancy ending up isolating after doing yet more political damage to yourself as well as risking the whole compliance.

chipsandpeas · 18/07/2021 10:57

they are both going to self isolate now after critisism says bbc

CoRhona · 18/07/2021 10:58

They must have realised it didn't come across as very fair bit of an understatement

lifeturnsonadime · 18/07/2021 10:58

The fact that this government hasn't lost approval of the public during the way that they have handled this pandemic just serves to demonstrate the fact that there is no viable opposition party.

We do not live in a meaningful democracy whilst these chumps get away with treating the public like idiots.

We must be the laughing stock of Europe having so called 'Freedom day' tomorrow. What a joke. We've never been less free in our lives thanks to the combined effect of the way the government has handled the pandemic and Brexit.

Katekarate · 18/07/2021 10:59

They must have realised it didn't come across as very fair bit of an understatement

How absolutely mind bogglingly stupid and arrogant must they be though, not to have realised this at the outset?
