AIBU to be annoyed that Boris Johnson is not isolating?

MN please don’t put this in the coronavirus topic. Is about the difference in rules. Things to consider: as people know who he is and the news, vulnerable people will be able to avoid him but should he set an example? Also there are hundreds of thousands of people isolating and missing out on well deserved holidays. Including a teacher’s daughter on her third isolation so the teacher can’t go.

AIBU = he should not isolate
AINBU = he should isolate

YANBU but there is a difference between someone missing a holiday and the people running the country not being able to carry out their duties.

Yes it's utterly shit for everyone isolating and poor form to be so publicly not doing what they're asking everyone else to do. I'd never heard of this pilot so I'm sure plenty of others haven't (and based on the comments on news articles about it there a lots of very vocal people in the dark!).

IdblowJonSnow · 18/07/2021 09:43

Agreed. Another example of one rule for them...

Mooloolabababy · 18/07/2021 09:43

Absolutely agree. Yet again, one rule for them and one rule for the plebs.

Blippibloppi · 18/07/2021 09:44

Given that stint in ICU with Covid last year, it's a shame Johnson doesn't seem to take it more seriously.

They are a dreadful bunch of humans.

ichundich · 18/07/2021 09:44

@Pumpkinstace

Why not in the corona topic?

Its about corona at the end of the day.

Because it's about the double standards of these politicians.
LemonRoses · 18/07/2021 09:45

It’s appalling behaviour, but entirely expected. It will stop others bothering to isolate. It will increase rates and risk further variants.

MaintainingPositivity · 18/07/2021 09:49

I am now struggling with it all to be honest.

I have done everything I have been asked, my DCs are waiting for GCSE results and have missed most of the schooling. I remember Gove saying you couldn't take children out of school for a weeks holiday as it would ruin their schooling!

I'm vaccinated, haven't been on holiday or even left my county since last March, wear my mask and we do LFTs.

I am now fed up and have deleted the track and trace app - I'm doing my own pilot scheme of clinging onto positivity with my fingernails. I've defended the Government in the past as this is unprecedented and it must be so hard.

They are now taking the piss.

Orf1abc · 18/07/2021 09:49

They're better equipped than anybody else to work from home. Or in Johnson's case, to keep doing sod all.

When will people realise that not everybody is going abroad for a "holiday"? Have you seen the news about the two women who can't be with their dying father because they have to isolate before travelling to Scotland from Spain? I've not seen my immediate family in nearly two years because they are in another country, and many are in the same position. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-57866679
Notcoolmum · 18/07/2021 09:50

I don't understand this. They weren't just randomly longed by a questionable app. They are known close contacts of a positive case.

AnotherDayAnotherCake · 18/07/2021 09:51

@InMySpareTime

YANBU, it's amazing how MPs and high profile people are far more likely to be "randomly" allocated to this pilot scheme than statistics would allow. Meanwhile, children are repeatedly isolating, thousands of people's jobs are at risk, and the pilot scheme continues, but only for the important people.
This 👆 YANBU OP and there’s no way on earth that I’ll be isolating my kids again.
MyrrAgain · 18/07/2021 09:52

WATF? No it’s fucking ridiculous. But the rest of us chumps have to isolate including keeping our five-year-olds locked up for 10 days, because some kids in another class has tested positive, so the entire year group has to isolate because it’s one giant bubble even though they probably didn’t even come into contact with each other, because nobody could be bothered to keep track of who has contact with who in the lunch hall. Yes just delay our lives continually and affect their well-being and education. But no if someone important has to isolate they just bugger off to Bernard Castle or do whatever the hell they please. Joke

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 18/07/2021 09:53

I’d accept his if they were doing a half-decent job of running the country. But since they’re so monumentally crap at it, I think it would be better for the country if they all stayed home and watched Netflix for 10 days.

They can do their jobs over zoom like the rest of us.

Poor form! It’s a disgrace.

They have fatally undermined the isolation rules. Why would anyone do as they are told now.

Porcupineintherough · 18/07/2021 09:55

No I'm not. I think it's perfectly reasonable for Downing Street to be part of a controlled trial to see if there is a viable alternative to close contacts isolation. It would be great to show that there is.

Blanketpolicy · 18/07/2021 09:56

Gove was in a "pilot" too meaning he didn't need to isolate after jolly to Porto for champions league. They have really given themselves get of of jail free cards while the minions must comply 🤬

sweetheartyparty · 18/07/2021 09:57

Hugely annoyed. People have lost income, children have missed school and families have lost holidays. The PM and the Chancellor are supposedly picked at random for a trial (if you believe that, I certainly don't) then it doesn't mean that they should do that. You lead by example not by one rule for us and another rule for everyone else.
These lot are laughing at the public

SmileEachDay · 18/07/2021 09:57

I’ve been teaching with half a department missing because they’re isolating, something that has only been halfway manageable because so many children are having to isolate.

The Bojo and Chancellor duo are taking the piss.

Porcupineintherough · 18/07/2021 09:58

@ichundich did you read the article? Its one woman from Dubai who was hoping to circumnavigate the requirements to quarantine by travelling via Mallorca.

MyrrAgain · 18/07/2021 09:58

All animals are equal

Arrowheart · 18/07/2021 10:00

It gets more laughable every day. What a shit show.

newnortherner111 · 18/07/2021 10:01

The worst Prime Minister in our history. Did you really expect anything else?

Sunnyfreezesushi · 18/07/2021 10:01

The whole pandemic is undemocratic. So many “laws” being randomly passed without proper checks and balances and rules changed last minute.
Lots of rich people making a killing out of the pandemic and vested interest for it to continue and influencing unduly. It is going to be studied as the biggest scandal of all times and is happening in many so called democratic countries. Health is not equal to war. People are using health to manipulate for their own interests. The poor, kids, those without a voice/power/vote being left by the wayside. Some politicians themselves are just pawns to be influenced too.

Theluggage15 · 18/07/2021 10:03

They just disgust me. Anyone thinking it’s fine is bonkers but then I’d assume that even if they committed murder there would be some people who would support them.

Tinpotspectator · 18/07/2021 10:03

Absolutely shocking. And the day before we completely abandon covid measures. It's a clear signal that he doesn't care if we all catch it and would actually like us to.
