AIBU to be annoyed that Boris Johnson is not isolating?

MN please don’t put this in the coronavirus topic. Is about the difference in rules. Things to consider: as people know who he is and the news, vulnerable people will be able to avoid him but should he set an example?Also there are hundreds of thousands of people isolating and missing out on well deserved holidays. Including a teacher’s daughter on her third isolation so the teacher can’t go.

AIBU = he should not isolate
AINBU = he should isolate

@Katekarate

Damage is done though isn't it. Fancy ending up isolating after doing yet more political damage to yourself as well as risking the whole compliance.
Oh definitely.

They lurch from one disaster to another and it’s all self-inflicted.

Chloemol · 18/07/2021 11:02

@NCforAIBU

Finally some sense

And personally I think this trial should stop. LFT are not accurate enough

GreenWheat · 18/07/2021 11:02

And they wonder why people whose children are on their third or fourth bout of isolation aren't complying. It seems that as soon as something doesn't suit the PM or the nation's international standing, they do what they like and call it a pilot. Well, my pilot starts tomorrow. No more isolation compliance in this house! We have a bucket load of LFTs so will just use those.

Piglet89 · 18/07/2021 11:03

@Rainallnight

They can’t do the right thing, they’re just inherently unable to.

Honestly, NEVER were truer words spoken. Know the right thing to do? The cabinet will do the opposite, sure as shooting.

Magissa · 18/07/2021 11:04

Now a U turn - I despair

catgirl1976 · 18/07/2021 11:05

God they are atrocious. Bad enough not isolating to start with and then only realising that might have repercussions when there is a huge backlash and then changing their minds.

Out of control shopping trolley was Dominic's description wasn't it? Sounds like it is quite accurate.

walksen · 18/07/2021 11:05

The trial does seem a bit of a pisstake to be fair.

Results have never been published
Most of the results would have been collected when alpha was dominant.
All double jabbed individuals/kids will be exempt from self isolating going forward anyway even if they did defer that step for a month for everyone else.
We all know that lft are not very accurate, the FDA rejected them and multiple people including Andrew Marr said they tested negative on lft even after symptoms started. Plenty of posters on MN have said they didn't test positive until day 3 or 4 of symptoms which don't even match those you need for PCR anymore.

How does this match up with we don't want to discriminate treat people unfairly.

We might as well get on with it and scrap isolations from tomorrow instead of August.

CremeEggThief · 18/07/2021 11:08

As if the U-turn will change public opinion now!🙄

Returnoftheowl · 18/07/2021 11:10

Clearly one rule for them, one rule for the rest of us.

I note they have just done a U-turn... Can't think that is going to change public opinion.

bumblingbovine49 · 18/07/2021 11:13

Well pilot it not, from now on if I am told to isolate as contact ( obviously not of I have Covid) I will do daily LFT tests and avoid getting too close to people, I will probably wear a mask if indoors with other people but that is it. Otherwise Ill be going out my business as much as I can

Oysterbabe · 18/07/2021 11:13

It's one whole epic live action episode of In The Thick Of It.

MaintainingPositivity · 18/07/2021 11:38

Ffs - they were taking the piss and now they are having a laugh.

Clearly shows these decisions are not thought through, everything is knee jerk. I get things change constantly but they are saying black then 2 minutes they are saying no, wait it's white.

Bollocks to the lot of them, what a joke!

CabotCoveBeforeBros · 18/07/2021 11:53

@MyrrAgain

All animals are equal
Absolutely
HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 18/07/2021 11:55

Ah well breaking news is that they are now self isolating after the criticism they have received.

Ilikeviognier · 18/07/2021 11:57

What an absolute joke! Too late though - we saw what their intentions were!

Yes! Am omnishambles.
NCforAIBU · 18/07/2021 11:59

Well that aged quickly didn’t it?!!

Thank you 87% restores my faith that the world hasn’t gone mad - just our cabinet

How deservedly embarrassing for them - Boris Johnson will go down as the worst PM ever.

I think anyone who hasn’t deleted the app is a mug.
Same for anyone making their dc’s self isolate if they are testing negative.

I've just deleted mine.
MarshaBradyo · 18/07/2021 12:02

I think it will lower compliance but I don’t really care what he does

But many won’t bother now

MarshaBradyo · 18/07/2021 12:04

Oh I see they’ve switched

Impact still there fewer people will bother

OverByYer · 18/07/2021 13:03

Another U turn!
This lot are a joke.
I never downloaded the app and can’t understand why anyone would

Why? 10 days paid sick leave if I ping? No immediate plans/holidays.

It’s absolute cashback.

52andblue · 18/07/2021 13:09

@BlatantlyNameChanged

Remember everyone, no need to isolate at all now, just tell people you're taking part in a pilot.
It makes sense for the Leaders of our Country to be able to continue 'Leading' so, yes, taking part in the Pilot Scheme. Only it feels like a massive Gaslight -y Fuck You. Which is why they've climbed down so quickly I suspect. Now, they will try to take credit for 'calming the little woman down' (the 'little woman' in this case being the UK...)

It's like being in an abusive relationship. That we keep voting to stay in.
