To ask for your posh chocolate recommendations

Inspired by another thread where a poster said she always has a box of lovely chocolates on the go and has one a night, I'd love to do this. I have a really sweet tooth, and do like to eat chocolate at night but I'm finding every bar too big , but of course if you start one, you finish it. I think I'd like to do the one chocolate thing but I'm very much a Cadbury person at mo and all the boxed chocolates in the supermarkets are a bit meh. So I need recommendations for boxes of lovely chocs , where you can just eat one at a time

I love the caramel type chocolates from Hotel Chocolat.

This box is perfect: www.amazon.co.uk/Hotel-Chocolat-Milky-Caramel-Sleekster/dp/B07J34RCV7

@littlepieces

What's the deal with Hotel Chocolat? Mostly tastes like that really cheap advent calendar chocolate to me?

I usually split a bar of Green and Black's or Divine and try to ration it out to myself throughout the week...

This. It's absolutely terrible.

Leonidas have some lovely chocolates but I do find that the best ones tend to come from little independent chocolate shops. You know the ones where they go for like £2 each. Soo worth it though.

Aldos monsieur salted dark chocolate. Comes with 5 individual bars..tastes like really expensive chocolate and because it's so dark you don't need much of it.

Audreys - the people mentioned below, who make Fortnums own brand chocolates - have a virtual choc counter, where you can select what you want for a range of sized boxes.

Chococo are gorgeous. I do find most chocolate too sweet, and theirs isn't. It lets the chocolate taste come forward, but without the bitterness of some dark chocolate.

A Bristol company, Guilberts, do online orders. I don't think they are quite as good as the others I would recommend, but they're a lot cheaper, and a damn sight better than anything you could get from a supermarket. I rate them as better than Prestat Charbonnel etc, and head and shoulders above Hotel du Chocolat, and they're far less expensive than the first two, at least.

Rococo are wonderful but expensive. The owner apparently kickstarted the real chocolate trade in this country. I love their newer ranges - very creative. Speaking of which, Paul A Young is amazing, really unusual and considered flavours and wonderful quality. Again, so expensive, but actually for something special on the rare occasion, I think it's justified. They're unlike anything else. William Curley is fantastic as well. And if you want a brand nobody seems to have heard of, that's very quirky and British and delicious, Demarquette is great. Melt are impossibly stylish and also very delicious, but again, expensive. Artisan du Chocolat are also stylish and also imaginative and delicious, but I don't think, in fairness, that the quality is the same. But unless you're a lot richer than me, it does the job! (They also have amazing sales, especially just after Easter and Christmas which are well worth registering for. Plus a great basic box stuffed with lots of their chocolates for very cheap on Black Fridays, in the past - don't know if they will this year or not, given Covid.) If you want to go classic Belgian and have deep pockets, then you can't go wrong with Pierre Marcolini, either.

I don't really rate Prestat, Charbonnel or Hotel Chocolat. I think it's fairly sub-par chocolate with great branding. Very sweet and a lot of humectants etc.

Finally, Venchi make a Nutella original version which is just gorgeous beyond words. Nutella is full of horrible fats and pretty bad for you - Venchi's version isn't a health food, no, but it has a lot of nutrition in it despite the sugar. And it tastes about a hundred times better, too.

Yes, I have tried them all. I am just that greedy.

Another vote for Chococo.

The chocolate society boxes. One a night, easily; they are decadent and rich!

For cooking products, or plain bars from some of the world's best chocolatiers, you can't go wrong with the Chocolate Trading Company either.

Läderach, every time. Always get some when I'm passing through Zürich.

I am in Australia, so would be expensive to import, but Coal River Farm chocolates are the best.

Leonidas are OK; ate way too many when living in Belgium. Pierre Marcolini is very expensive, no prices per kg in the windows of the shop. Galler, Cornet Royale, Godiva and Neuhaus are very good. Neuhaus is my favourite. Cafe Tasse is very good too for Neapolitan squares to go with coffee. Their bars and the Galler ones, are what I miss.

I can't eat just one of those!

This is a bar, Seasalt and Almond milk chocolate co op's own brand. I have had to ban myself from our local co op, as I can't go in without buying at least 2.

The mint ones taste like fresh mint smells when you crush it. Mmmmmm.

I just tried the Rococo ones based on recommendations here. They are good but the ones I recommended above are definitely better : eponine.co.uk/product/chocolate-selection/
