I don’t need to go to the hospital for this surely.

So I got my 2nd vaccine 2 weeks ago and a day later started with pain in my right shoulder. The opposite arm to where I got jabbed. Didn’t think anything of it but over the 2 weeks the pain is horrendous and is going into the side of my neck and the back of it. I’m also getting constant headaches and feeling sick.

I rang 111 and advised I haven’t slept funny on it, I have whacked it but I’m getting to the point I can’t lie on that side due to the pain or carry anything. 111 have said to go to a&e but I don’t think I need it. Wouldn’t get a doctor to ring me or see just said go to a&e.

Anyone know what it could be. Feel like I’m wasting a space for someone else in hospital.

With the symptoms you have described, I would follow their advice. If you go now it will be less busy than later.

Eleoura · 16/07/2021 18:17

What have you taken or tried for it in the last 2 weeks? Anti-inflammatories (nurofen), ice, hot water bottle, stretches??? Do you mean you have or haven't wacked it? Is the pain worse when you move your shoulder around? Have you tried your own GP? I personally would go to a minor injuries/walk in centre before A&E.

Ginmakesitallok · 16/07/2021 18:18

Just go. Unlikely to be vaccine related

I’ve taken paracetamol and ibuprofen for it. Oh and heat packs and hot water bottles. Can’t take anything like Codiene or tramadol as I have a stomach condition. Tried stretches and swimming and it makes it worse . Sorry I meant I haven’t whacked it on anything. My gp cent see me for 2 weeks and not sure I can live with this pain any longer.

It's highly unlikely to be related to the vaccine. Much more likely you've damaged it somehow.

WetWeekends · 16/07/2021 18:21

I don’t think I’d risk leaving it.

Cheerio21 · 16/07/2021 18:22

I wouldn't risk it tbh

SpacePug · 16/07/2021 18:22

If you can't see a gp, and you can't manage the pain any longer, what else can you do? Is there a walk in centre you could go to?

There is but it shuts at 8pm i believe. I’ll have to make my way down to the hospital I guess. Just feel guilty and like I’m taking someone’s place.

What makes you think it's vaccine related?

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 16/07/2021 18:26

Personally no I wouldn’t attend A+E.
Unlikely to be vaccine related.

I had something similar, as you say ibuprofen/heat packs and cocodamol and downloaded some physio neck exercises.
I appreciate it hurts a lot!

Do you have a walk in centre near you?

CharlotteRose90 · 16/07/2021 18:26

@idontlikealdi

What makes you think it's vaccine related?
I don’t believe it is. Was just what 111 said, it’s probably a coincidence but it only happened after the vaccine so who knows. Just waiting on a family member to come home then they’ll drive me to hospital to be checked .

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 16/07/2021 18:27

Cross posted.

How far away is the walk in? Can you not set off now and make it or tommorow?

topwings · 16/07/2021 18:29

Please don't think this! You have unbearable pain and have been advised to go to A&E. I can't believe you've left it this long.

I'm not in the UK but am aware of how people feel about the NHS but honestly the notion that you are taking someone's place with your symptoms and advice that you have gotten is ridiculous. People trying to save the NHS money at the expense of their health surely defeats the purpose of it!

Skybluepinkgiraffe · 16/07/2021 18:29

If you called 111 and they said go to A&E, you should go.

BIWI · 16/07/2021 18:29

What's the point of ringing 111 for advice and then ignoring it?!

Go to A&E. You're obviously in a lot of pain and you need to be seen by a doctor.

Happyd · 16/07/2021 18:29

Their thinking blood clot .. just go and be checked out op

Callybrid · 16/07/2021 18:30

Glad you’re off to hospital OP and hope all ok. Definitely the right thing to do to get it checked out.

BIWI · 16/07/2021 18:30

Is there any chance you could be pregnant?

do you have any of these symptoms?

catinthewindow · 16/07/2021 18:32

It may well be the continuous headaches and nausea not the arm. The advice is if you have these symptoms for more than a few days and painkillers don’t work to go to A&E

Faircastle · 16/07/2021 18:32

Pain in the right shoulder can actually be from the top right part of your abdominal cavity. It's called referred pain and happens because of the way the phrenic nerve runs. So problems with the liver / gallbladder can present as right shoulder pain.

I think the timing of the vaccine is likely to be a coincidence.

I guess I was hoping they’d get a doctor to see me so I wouldn’t have to wait in the hospital. I try and avoid them at all costs. My brothers on his way to get me now and take me.

Manista · 16/07/2021 18:33

Of course you bloody well go, I'm so please that you are. I had one of the symptoms in the leaflet that says "seek urgent medical attention". 111 sent me off to hospital where I spent best part of a day having blood tests, ECG and a chest xray. Bit inconvenient, all was clear, but I was thankful that they checked.

Interesting that. Although I had my gallbladder out 2 years ago and have had the odd issue since. I really hope it’s not that though. No idea on my liver though.

Weirdly-my friend had pain in her right shoulder and it was gallstones.
Maybe worth getting checked?
