I don’t need to go to the hospital for this surely.

So I got my 2nd vaccine 2 weeks ago and a day later started with pain in my right shoulder. The opposite arm to where I got jabbed. Didn’t think anything of it but over the 2 weeks the pain is horrendous and is going into the side of my neck and the back of it. I’m also getting constant headaches and feeling sick.

I rang 111 and advised I haven’t slept funny on it, I have whacked it but I’m getting to the point I can’t lie on that side due to the pain or carry anything. 111 have said to go to a&e but I don’t think I need it. Wouldn’t get a doctor to ring me or see just said go to a&e.

Anyone know what it could be. Feel like I’m wasting a space for someone else in hospital.

Even if you’re waiting, you would only be at home with horrendous pain so it’s worth getting checked. Hope you’re ok

Laleed · 17/07/2021 04:40

I'd also be considering acute brachial neuritis... hope you're getting seen right now OP.

CharlotteRose90 · 17/07/2021 04:57

Atleast I know it’s nothing serious as I’ve just been told it’s another hour wait meaning over 10 hours so I’m guessing if it was serious I’d be done now . If I wasn’t in agony I’d be going home. It’s horrible waiting and the chairs are awful.

Poor you! Flowers Hope you get seen v. soon!

almondfinger · 17/07/2021 05:06

that is horrendous waiting time. You poor thing. I hope you get an answer and are on your way home soon. It really is no wonder people are so reluctant to go to A&E unless they are very obviously in mortal danger.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 17/07/2021 05:11

Op that wait is awful. Keep at it.

I know it’s dreadful. I have other medical conditions and normally I’ve waited 4 hours or less. This has hit hard and I’ve got work at 10am .

9 hours is scandalous. I have lived in some pretty crummy countries and never had to wait more than an hour in ED. Beyond third world.

Laleed · 17/07/2021 05:22

It's awful OP and (having been on the other side of this particular fence many times), I know that the staff would have had a horrific night too.

Etinox · 17/07/2021 05:24

How are you @CharlotteRose90?
You can’t work today, surely? Flowers

Iveputmyselfonthenaughtystep · 17/07/2021 05:24

Hey. Just seen your thread. Hope you're doing ok. I think calling in sick might be your best option...?

TokyoSushi · 17/07/2021 05:30

Wow, that's a huge wait, hope you're ok, don't go to work!

Ostagazuzulum · 17/07/2021 05:40

You poor thing, you must be shattered. That's a crazy wait time. It's a shame there isn't a bed for you to rest / sleep a bit if you can whilst you wait. I imagine tho that A&E is crazy busy tho if wait time is that long so no chance of napping whilst you wait. Hope you get seen soon x

Borderterrierpuppy · 17/07/2021 05:51

You poor thing hope you have been seen at last x

Scrawlanddoodle · 17/07/2021 06:01

You poor thing. I know the staff will have had a rough night too but honestly 10 hours, especially when you are in pain, is unacceptable. Apart from being, I would have thought, unsafe.

ImNotDaveGorman · 17/07/2021 06:02

I’m curious to know how you are as I had similar. I also had the AZ vaccine and 2 weeks after having my first I had pain in the opposite shoulder/arm. It wasn’t as severe as yours and lasted a few weeks. It happened again (mildly) with my second one and I got it in the opposite arm (so the opposite shoulder hurt).
So strange x

TinkerPony · 17/07/2021 06:02

Definitely not fit to go work this morning as had no sleep and in pain. Hope you are seen asap.

ImNotDaveGorman · 17/07/2021 06:03

I really hope you’re not still waiting ❤️❤️

Bertiebassetsbabe · 17/07/2021 06:03

I’d call in sick too. Hope you’re out now and at home resting.

messybun101 · 17/07/2021 06:07

Can't believe you're still waiting op I was popping on to se what happened in the end.
Jeezo. I hope you've had some pain relief by now

olympicsrock · 17/07/2021 06:08

This sounds like a musculoskeletal problem perhaps with cervical nerve root involvement with referred neck pain and headache. I struggle to understand why 111 said A&E. GP or physio assessment would have been more appropriate.

This is why A&E is such a nightmare at the moment with people being sent unnecessarily . Not the OPs fault for following advice. It’s partially due to GP services being overwhelmed. At the hospital where I work all doctors are being begged to take on extra shifts in A&E or medicine as they are snowed under . And patients are waiting 8 hours as a result.

olympicsrock · 17/07/2021 06:09

And poor OP - I hope you are ok. Much be exhausted.

Laleed · 17/07/2021 06:16

@Scrawlanddoodle it absolutely is unsafe, and unacceptable, and I absolutely know who is to blame (spoiler: it's not A&E staff).

CharlotteRose90 · 17/07/2021 06:26

I’m waiting on some meds now. They think it’s either a trapped nerve or a pinched nerve. No idea how I’ve done it but that’s what they think. My bloods are all back fine so we don’t think it’s the vaccine . I’ve been told to take codiene even though I’m not meant too and if the pain gets any worse I’m to come back for something stronger. The staff have been amazing the wait isn’t their fault it’s just more urgent cases came in which is fine. Also been given some tablets for the nausea it’s causing me too.
