Ok so maybe it's this muggy weather but I'm reliving my youth club years asking Alexa to play tunes circa late 80s\early 90s and DM popped up. Now whilst I only know and love a handful of their mainstream albums I've been reminded of how horny a combo his voice and some of their lyrics were.

Can't believe I've only just come across this thread. Martin does it for me big time but I can see the attraction with Dave too. As others have mentioned Fly on the Windscreen and Stripped make me rather hot under the collar! I also grew up in the lovely town of Basildon and used to see them in the town centre when bunking off school at the age of 15. Someone mentioned them getting the train to TOTP earlier - I was behind them all queuing for tickets at the train station once - maybe that's where they were going! I still love DM as much as I did back in 1984.

Depeche or Depechay ( I remember people pronouncing it both ways . What's right ? There's no acute over the last 'e' so I;m guessing the first one )?

I am in denial about sandals and socks …..no it didn’t happen 🤣😂🤣 But I have never heard It pronounced Depechay (even by clueless radio one ‘DJ’s, remember the Ebeneezer Good ‘faux pas’ 🤣🤣🤣)

Re. "Depechay" - TOTP DJs took to pronouncing it like that in the early days, around 1981/2 when they had their first hits. I watched a few old episodes over the weekend and agree that it sounds odd.

By about the time of the glorious Music For The Masses when the likes of the delicious "Strangelove" charted the likes of Bruno Brookes et al pronounced it as "Depeche" in the countdowns.

WishingWell I'd recommend, as have others, Violator and the Songs of Faith and Devotion album- the love versions are good too as you often hear his voice very hoarse! - I think you'll get an inkling of what we mean.

And thanks for all the recommendations all 💓 I've enjoyed listening to them.

Can't remember if they had shiny hair but to this day my mum still talks about the time we saw Depechay (yes she calls them that) Mode at the train station . I had a Saturday job in KFC when I was 16 and served Dave once. I called "2 chicken and chips" as I put them on the counter - as I looked up I realised it was him. A very exciting day for such a huge DM fan! So many great memories. Met them quite a few times (mostly Martin and Fletch) and Alan bought me and my friend a beer in a hotel in Paris once. Happy days.

Dave Gahan himself, no thanks. Or Martin. If it was going to be any of them it would have been the long departed Andy Fletcher.

But DMs music - 100%. ‘I feel you’, ‘Stripped’, ‘World in my eyes’, &‘ Personal Jesus’ in particular do it for me. Try listening to Placebo’s cover of ‘I feel you’ and a DM/Rammstein mix of Personal Jesus - both very good.

I have just been down a massive rabbithole of rediscovering DM tracks .

They are of my era Dave Gahan is 4 years older than me ...in the early videos he looks so squeaky clean and wholesome (New Life and The Meaning of Love) I probably wouldn't have looked twice .
