Ok so maybe it's this muggy weather but I'm reliving my youth club years asking Alexa to play tunes circa late 80s\early 90s and DM popped up. Now whilst I only know and love a handful of their mainstream albums I've been reminded of how horny a combo his voice and some of their lyrics were.

goes to sit in garden and cool down <

Just me?

Thanks to you all I am now enjoying a major DM/DG Spotify session 🙂

Wearegoingtoneedabiggerboat · 16/07/2021 23:25

Think I was about 12 when I first saw DM performing ‘see you’. Have loved them ever since. Enjoy the silence and shake the disease probably favourites. DG has definitely aged well, despite the past heroin abuse.

Urbanhymngirl · 16/07/2021 23:26

I do think they are one of the UK’s most underrated bands too! They are massive globally

Dita73 · 16/07/2021 23:44

Enjoy the Silence is one of the best songs ever. Master and Servant was funny, especially when they sung it on kids tv!

Cleebope2 · 16/07/2021 23:53

Totally agree! This is odd as I got my old DM vinyl out yesterday and was reliving 1982 with my YA kids and trying to educate them on 80s bands (DM still current tho) but they didn’t appreciate my dancing round the room. I was looking up how much my original vinyls would fetch online but I couldn’t sell them anyhow. They are a very masculine band. Guys love them.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 16/07/2021 23:59

What does everyone think of Dave Gahan’s solo stuff? I thought the Paper Monsters album was brilliant.

ChequerBoard · 17/07/2021 00:04

I accidentally caught 'The Story of 1981' on BBC2 a few weeks ago which to my delight featured scenes of baby faced DM practicing in the garage at ones of their family homes in Basildon.

They were talking about their first appearances on Top of the Pops and how they would get there on the train and then the tube over to White City, carrying their synthesisers wrapped up in blankets. It wasn't until they had done this several times that they realised other bands were arriving in cars and had a people with vans who moved their equipment.

Loved seeing this so much!

fantasmasgoria1 · 17/07/2021 00:06

My favourite band ever. Dave gahan is really hot! Later albums are pretty good too. They tend to release every 4 years of so nowadays and do a worldwide tour which sells out all over. People don't realise what a massive band they are.

Cleebope2 · 17/07/2021 00:15

Have to add two of my horniest exes who got away were mad on Depeche. Enough said.

SEmum3 · 17/07/2021 00:48

My people! Yes to everything here. Seen them many times and I love how everyone sings 'reach out, touch Dave' during personal Jesus. Or maybe that's just me!

Nope not just you!

Just leaving this here …it’s a hot night anyway
It’s his mouth. Always the mouth. 🥵
elp30 · 17/07/2021 01:53

Yes, yes, yes!

I was 14 in '84 and saw them perform live and they were incredible.
Then I saw them again in '86 and then by '87, Dave's hotness was starting to stir. In '90 and the Violator tour, he was getting very hot but by the time I saw them in '94 the man was oozing sex from every inch of his pores. It was hard to deny the man was a sex god!

He's still does it for me.

To be fair, it was around '90 that Martin and Alan Wilder were reaching peak hotness levels too. I wonder what dear ol' Alan Wilder is up to these days.

Goodness, I sound a bit hard-up. 😆

CrackOnOrGoHome · 17/07/2021 02:02

Oh hello new friends! Dave's been my crush since I was 13 and I'm 50 this year. Freelove makes me melt, his voice is just so seductive. And Stay from Paper Monsters makes me want to fall in love again. With him preferably.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 17/07/2021 03:36

I am also in my 50s, the man is obviously sex on a stick. But I think I am probably too vanilla for Dave, he looks like he would be the kind of guy who would have you attached to the ceiling in nipple clamps, or something similarly depraved. Grin

mathanxiety · 17/07/2021 03:47

Pulling up a pew...

Anycrispsleft · 17/07/2021 06:38

@UnitedRoad

Get Alexa to play ‘A question of lust’

So hot

That's Martin Gore singing! He also sings Somebody, It Doesn't Matter and One Caress, which ate some of my favourite DM songs.
AngelsWithSilverWings · 17/07/2021 07:42

Davies voice is fantastic. I love the stuff he did with Soul Savers too. There is a great track called Nostalgia by Mirror which he did the vocal for - it's spine tingling.

I'm a life long DM fan - have even attended a couple of fan conventions in my younger days. Met Dave a few times when I was a teenager as I grew up in their home town.

thecatsabsentcojones · 17/07/2021 07:49

Totally agree. His voice is amazing and even if he looked shit I’d still probably fancy him just for that.

YouAreShoutingAtTea · 17/07/2021 07:58

You are not alone! I love love DM, I wasn’t born in England and was obsessed with them, I wanted to visit Basildon which I imagined to be such an idyllic place, no offence to Basildon people but I was slightly disappointed!

YouAreShoutingAtTea · 17/07/2021 08:03

They seriously have been the soundtrack of my life, I remember one of the first nights in England crying of happiness because I was here and singing but not tonight in the rain

EnjoyingTheSilence · 17/07/2021 08:14

Best band ever. Love love love them. Just told dh about this thread, he rolled his eyes and said I’m such a teenager when it comes to DM!

Anyway, can’t believe no ones mentions Corrupt from Sounds of the Universe.

Have seen them 5 or 6 times now. Never a bad gig.

That’s it, I’m off to listen to them all day (again!)

@YouAreShoutingAtTea no offence taken - Basildon is much derided and it isn't the town it once was. I struggle even to find my way around if I go back now.

Growing up there in the 70'a and 80'a was actually pretty idyllic. Lots of green space and freedom and all the newly built council estates felt really safe with a great sense of community. The schools were terrible though. We were all looked down on as no hopers by the teachers. Many of my peer group left school at 16 or 18 and took advantage of the close proximity to London and walked straight into banking and finance jobs in the City and now have pretty privileged lives.
