and the host has plated it up and served it, and then at the end, they shouldn't word it: there's more xxx, if anyone can manage any more?"

but more like: "there's more xxx, would anyone like some?"

reason why i think it is U? because the first one is implying that "how could anyone possibly manage any more dinner after this plate of food? only fat bastards that's who "

I prefer the way they said it, it takes the pressure off the guest to have seconds if they are no longer hungry. I prefer to serve myself at the table though.

Sounds like you might be projecting. Are you by any chance a fat bastard? Grin

For crying out loud what a way to pluck a problem out of thin air

PoorPawsPickPawpaws · 14/07/2021 22:02

Nah. The first way is better: that way you can refuse because you are full. Ie it's better to say 'the food is lovely but I really cannot eat any more' than ' I could eat more but I don't want more of that food' Grin

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 14/07/2021 22:19

@Pebbledashery

Oh dear god not another weird thread. Something in the water today.
That was my exact thought on reading the OP. So many weird, overly-sensitive people making threads about nothing at all.
Thehop · 14/07/2021 22:19

I agree. But I’m fat and greedy so I’d still have some.

WhySoSensitive · 14/07/2021 22:20

Mumsnet has taught me that people can make an issue about absolutely anything. It’s amazing.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 14/07/2021 22:20

@WhySoSensitive

Indeed.

On another thread someone thinks it's rude because someone is pleased to be leaving a job Confused with colleagues like that I can't imagine why they want to leave such a place

Jabbinell · 14/07/2021 22:24

Your issue for sure

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 14/07/2021 22:24

It wouldn't register with me in the slightest. I wouldn't read any hidden meaning into it beyond "if you're already full, there's some more food available".

Radio4ordie · 14/07/2021 22:28

Yeah, this is definitely just you. Totally normal turn of phrase and doesn’t imply anything other than seconds are available but no pressure

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 14/07/2021 22:28

I have an interest (and qualifications) in linguistics so I do think about things like this too OP.

It’s an interesting turn of phrase. There is definitely a strong implication in it isn’t there? Like a dare.

Bluntness100 · 14/07/2021 22:30

Are you just pissed off you wanted more and didn’t want to say so as everyone else said no, so you’ve decided you’ll lash out at rhe host.?

Confused
RyanAirVeteran · 14/07/2021 22:33

Well I have made my opinions on plated food very clear on here in the past and had my arse handed to me.

Lets just say, it wouldn't happen in this house, it would all be in the middle Grin

Backtoblack1 · 14/07/2021 22:37

Omg. What?!

Weebleweeble · 14/07/2021 22:38

I say 'there's plenty more if you want it' or if there isn't loads left 'there's some left if anyone wants more'.
She was wanting to keep some so they can finish it off tomorrow - nothing to do with anyone's weight.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/07/2021 22:44

I think if they had added "surely you'll have some more Fatty?" then you could be offended.

MichelleScarn · 14/07/2021 22:48

God to use the trope, I wish this was the level of stress and angst l had, but I really do!

thefirstmrsrochester · 14/07/2021 22:49

Good fucking Lord, assuming this is real you are turning a hosts generosity into a snipe. Never once have I dished up a meal for guests and thought ‘fat bastards’ when saying there was more x,y or z if anyone fancied it.

Cocomarine · 14/07/2021 22:52

Do you think you could manage a Biscuit ?

Cos you REALLY need one for this.

AdoptedBumpkin · 14/07/2021 22:53

I wouldn't even notice.

Enough4me · 14/07/2021 22:55

OP, you reflected on the feedback and admitted it was just you a while ago, but I'd love to know how you feel about the person who said it they really have your back up on a bigger issue?

UndertheCedartree · 14/07/2021 22:56

I have a history of ED and yes, I'd think this way! But hopefully I'd see it was my issue!

NoProblem123 · 14/07/2021 22:58

This is the nonest none issue in the history of nontity.

Wtfdoipick · 14/07/2021 23:00

I'd think the host was just desperate for someone to finish the food so it wasn't wasted. I wouldn't put any value judgement on it
