To think its weird that Prince George, a 7 year old boy, came to a football match in a suit and tie?

Couldn't they put him in a casual t-shirt or a football shirt or even just a polo shirt? A full suit with a tie seems OTT especially as it wasn't an official engagement.

He's working

teenagetantrums · 12/07/2021 23:10

This has been done so much....it's a royal box dress code..also for him to distinguish between being on duty or at home relaxing.

Divineswirls · 12/07/2021 23:10

Everyone around him in that area was in a shirt and tie, everyone. Except Boris who put an England T-shirt over his shirt.

DustyMaiden · 12/07/2021 23:10

He wanted to dress like Daddy.

Comedycook · 12/07/2021 23:11

Not this again

maddening · 12/07/2021 23:11

Yanbu, but he did totally rock the suit- so cute

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 12/07/2021 23:12

Perhaps he wanted to wear a suit?

Saidtoomuch · 12/07/2021 23:13

I thought he looked cute and he possibly wanted to wear it to look like his Dad. My son used to wear a suit jacket with jeans for restaurants when he was little to match my DH, which looked adorable. The royal family were there to represent the country and needed to stand out.

nimbuscloud · 12/07/2021 23:13

He’s a 7 year old child.
I really don’t see the need for this.

Frownette · 12/07/2021 23:14

No, I don't find it weird.

Kinneddar · 12/07/2021 23:15

🙄 how many threads are there going to be about this

Hellocatshome · 12/07/2021 23:15

Omg we did this last time, he is in the Royal Box, the Royal Box has a dress code. Not that difficult to understand.

Sweetchocolatecandy · 12/07/2021 23:15

I agree- far too young to be wearing a formal suit and tie! He will be wearing suits pretty much all of his adult life- they could have let him be a kid this once and wear his bloody England t-shirt.

SorryPardonWhat · 12/07/2021 23:16

Not weird at all. If my son was invited to watch in the royal box I would have bought him a suit!

IvorHughJarrs · 12/07/2021 23:20

How many 7 year olds are in the box with royals and celebs? He was one on his own because of his age and would have looked even more one on his own if not dressed in a similar way to the adults
Either way, it is up to his parents to make that decision so why not just butt out and leave them to it?

angieloumc · 12/07/2021 23:22

I thought he looked super. And he's clearly a very happy and loved boy, the pure joy on his face when he looked at PW was lovely to see.

WhyMrsRobinson · 12/07/2021 23:24

7 year old has more dignity and respect in his little finger than our embarrassment of a p.m.

Nuggetnugget · 12/07/2021 23:25

He's adorable
It's protocol in the box (this has been said a lot)
I'm sure he gets to wear the Jersey a lot at home!!

Medievalist · 12/07/2021 23:29

No I don't think it's weird.

What's weird is anyone wanting to criticise what a 7 year old boy is wearing. Suit, football shirt, sparkly top and tiara - why should anyone care?

BlatantlyNameChanged · 12/07/2021 23:34

As others have said, it's the royal box dress code. I think I once read somewhere too that the formal outfits for when they're on public view - suit, tie, smart hair, etc - are so that they're harder to recognise when they're not "on duty" and are wearing normal clothes.

Sparklingbrook · 12/07/2021 23:37

Oooh this again. I think there was a thread after was it the Denmark match? It got deleted IIRC.

toastantea · 12/07/2021 23:37

Oh stop it Hmm

WhereYouLeftIt · 12/07/2021 23:50

When I was his age, it would have been perfectly normal for a son accompanying his dad to a special occasion - and I think this WAS a special occasion - to have been 'dressed up'. Even if father and son were commoners (rather than royalty under the scrutiny of the world's press)!

So, no - not weird in the slightest.

ButterflyCat2028 · 12/07/2021 23:53

I thought he looked wonderful... And that a great many suppporters looked like they'd rolled out of bed, chucked dirty wrinkled t shirts on, and it looked awful.

One thing I do like about a majority of European countries cultures; they know how to dress and take pride in their appearance. But then again, we are now the country where shops need to have dress code signs -.-

Each to their own I guess.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 12/07/2021 23:57

There are plenty of children bunged into suits for weddings. This is a formal occasion for the Royals. And it's the Royal Box.
