Do you even find yourself suddenly remembering a particular scenario, and wondering where the people involved are today, if the behaviour is still carrying on, did she ever LTB, etc?

Even if the thread had a resolution to the scenario, if things ever repeated again?

The one that came into my mind vividly today was about a woman who'd gone to collect her child (believe it was a DD) and came home to find that her husband had left the key in the door on the other side meaning they couldn't get in, and despite being able to see 'D'H in the window and signalling to him, he refused to come and open the door as he was on a work call? From memory they were left waiting for about an hour and DD had to wee in the garden.

I remember feeling so outraged for her, and find myself wondering now if it was just a one off or if the bastard has continued doing shitty things to them.

Any other ones that have left an impression?

David AND HIS DARLING WIFE CAROLINE yes that was a trip alright.

Alipali29 · 13/07/2021 13:32

@Alipali29

I remember the one where the op found out her husband was taking money from their savings to buy class A drugs and she said she was going to divorce him. She'd been having a rough time with him for ages as they had been doing counselling before she found out about the drugs. Anyway, a few months later some posters were having a go at her as they felt she hadn't left him (maybe from reading other posts of hers), she then became defenceless and said she had left him but still calls him dh on mumsnet 🤔 I always wonder if she actually really did leave him!
Does anyone else remember this one?
DocsOddSocks · 13/07/2021 13:35

@Winterfellismyhome

I often think about the lady who packed up her car and left with her baby whilst her husband was at work. I think DV was involved. She had horses too. I hope shes okay
@Winterfellismyhome I often think of this one too!
MolyHolyGuacamole · 13/07/2021 13:37

How many people on this thread have mentioned the span gran saga, rainy puddles, softzilla? All obviously fake.

To be fair, apart from the first one which I have no knowledge of, yes they could be fake but also, people are crazy enough for either of the other ones to be true? I've seen enough episodes of Nightmare Neighbours and documentary series on stalkers to know that people like that exist.

I don't see why simply because the story is mad it MUST be fake.

Before I knew what reverse threads were, I remember reading one about a woman basically having a tantrum that her perfect and rich best friend wouldn’t buy her a horse and riding lessons for nothing in return! I was absolutely baffled until a few pages in when someone explained what a reverse was, although I don’t remember if the OP ever admitted it was!

Boswell and Birdie Friend often plague me, but if I remember correctly, Boswell got solved on another riddle thread and I think the Birdie Friend OP might’ve destroyed Birdie Friend in the end (hopefully not releasing an evil Birdie spirit in the process! Grin ) I do remember imagining Birdie Friend as looking quite scary before the OP posted a photo of it though!

Another one I think of is the lady whose DH kept lots of fish and started to get headaches and felt quite ill because of all of the UV lights he used in the tanks. The reason it stayed with me was because the Op said she remembered her DH saying he liked keeping fish because it made him feel like a god Sad it really made me feel quite sorry for her, the way he cared more about the fish than her health.

There was another odd one I remember about the children in a school (including OP’s DD) having to do “introductions” or something like that in the dining room at lunch time. I don’t think OP ever really explained what that meant and the thread rapidly descended into chaos before being deleted because OP threatened to do some really bad things Hmm

The ironing board thread is another classic - I seem to remember people praying to St Anthony and St Jude by the end of it, although I don’t think it was ever found! Confused

Don't rub it in x2boys! I'm still gutted I missed it Grin

@SmidgenofaPigeon

Oh my god so many posters have been taken in by these trolls.

Honestly. If someone is going through a traumatic event and posting concise, regular updates that simultaneously keep the saga going, likely to be a troll. If your child was about to be rushed to hospital in an ambulance for example for some unexplained mystery illness, would you crack straight onto Mumsnet for a ‘handhold’ ? If your abusive husband was breaking down the bathroom door, sure you’d post to update your cheerleaders 🙄

Exactly!

Or an OP messaging live from A&E about how they are at death's door but can give chapter and verse even as they go under the knife...almost. Precise details of just HOW close they were, what medication they are on, and sometimes a spat with someone on duty, just to cover all bases.

@Hobnobswantshernameback

You can't understand why people make stuff up? Really You don't think people ever lie or stretch the truth You believe everything you read No matter how unlikely? Im not entirely sure you should be allowed on line Even my kids understand that they shouldn't believe stuff they read online
Ok but not believing everything you read doesn't mean you can't believe anything. If you are going to doubt everything as fake then why even bother being active on MN?

I remember a poster called “Lisa” whose DP went on a foreign work trip and met someone in a bar who worked in the creative industries in global company (think film or music etc.) Very quickly bar OW transferred her job to UK, and they bought a fancy house and got married (he didn’t believe in marriage when he was with Lisa of course). He behaved like a twat concerning the split and DC.

@mafted

Don't rub it in x2boys! I'm still gutted I missed it Grin
🤣As I recall it was not a particularly interesting zombie thread which was for some reason had been bumped from a couple of years before where she said she didn't have children yet, which didn't tie in with the ages of the imaginary children 😂
x2boys · 13/07/2021 13:51

@catinboots21

David and Caroline. Well that was fucking weird wasn't it?
I never actually saw the thread but have seen bits of it on reddit, isn't it thought that there was actually a David and Caroline, but the poster claiming to be David was sending in appropriate messages to other posters?
mafted · 13/07/2021 13:53

Yes x2boys wasn't it a nanny thread. I like to think she was an embittered nanny to the family she pretended to be part of.
Clearly I'm far too invested!

MolyHolyGuacamole · 13/07/2021 13:56

The devil wears primark. Went round a friend of mines house after they met on here. She was literally mental and tried to have a threesome with my friend and her husband

I feel like this needs its own thread

@RavenT

Happy to confirm trickytreelou is still around on MN, new name, and has the relatively quiet life now she always wanted. Grin

DS is 8 and recently showed me how to access WiFi on holiday. Shock Smile

Two rescue cats passed at the grand ages of 18 and 19. Single, kept house, same job, never see or hear from Chunt.

Now owned by a young rescue tabby who calls all the shots.

Thank you to those who thought of us. Flowers

Oh wow @RavenT - thank you for this. I read those threads - I think they got me addicted into MN ... Can't believe A. is 8!

And that his father is so utterly totally a loser. What goes through such men's kinds?

(Although if we knew, half of MN wouldn't be necessary).

x2boys · 13/07/2021 13:58

@mafted

I think so, it was very entertaing, some people were replying to not particularly interesting Op having not rtft whilst others were discussing the "outing"
Sparklingbrook · 13/07/2021 13:59

Ok but not believing everything you read doesn't mean you can't believe anything. If you are going to doubt everything as fake then why even bother being active on MN?

Because there's more to MN than reading people's works of fiction, and trying to decipher whether it's cobblers or not. ie There's the topic about cat ownership, and there's lots of threads chatting about nothing much, what you are having for dinner, where's good to go in a particular area or following a particular tv show.
Sometimes it's good to get out of AIBU.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 13/07/2021 14:01

Does anyone ever think about Balonz?! Wonder what they named him in the end

OP posts:
reallybloodytired · 13/07/2021 14:03

I remember that x2

It was really funny, so many people answering the thread which was something totally random amongst this discussion about Artandco Grin

Somehow the discussion about whatever the zombie thread was about made it even funnier, and I don’t even know why!

ILookAtTheFloor · 13/07/2021 14:06

I remember a poster whose husband had built this weird 'mezzanine' floor with a bed for their child, disregarded building regs and it was unsafe, with this ladder etc and the dad insisted the child use it and the poster disagreed. Everyone said that she wasn't BU.

I'd love to know what happened. I hope the creation was ripped down!

DadOnIce · 13/07/2021 14:07

@Tenementfunster

I joined just as the dizzymare thing happened. There’s was also an awful lot of fangirling over Cod.
Is 'iCod' on Twitter Cod from here? If so then her typing there is a lot better than it was here Grin
Hobnobswantshernameback · 13/07/2021 14:08

Sorry OP that comment wasn't aimed at you but at a poster who said they couldn't believe people would make stuff up

MolyHolyGuacamole · 13/07/2021 14:09

@BadLad

A London Underground quiz.

Something like "What are the five underground stations with such and such letters in their names?"

Nobody could think of the fifth station, and the OP never filled us in.

Maddening.

This would bother me until the day I died 😂

@DedalusBloom

Can confirm that the woman who got it together with the gardener ("Green eyed Gardener") was the same poster who "found" 10K in the hedge.

Both absolute horseshit Grin

Didn't read either thread, but both sound ridiculous 😂
OP posts:
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/07/2021 14:16

There was also "clock bus Canada" for annoying unsolved Underground questions!

I followed your threads (never posted on them) and have often wondered how you and A were getting on. So pleased to hear all is well.

Can't believe no-one has mentioned Brian from Hull yet. Grin
