Do you even find yourself suddenly remembering a particular scenario, and wondering where the people involved are today, if the behaviour is still carrying on, did she ever LTB, etc?

Even if the thread had a resolution to the scenario, if things ever repeated again?

The one that came into my mind vividly today was about a woman who'd gone to collect her child (believe it was a DD) and came home to find that her husband had left the key in the door on the other side meaning they couldn't get in, and despite being able to see 'D'H in the window and signalling to him, he refused to come and open the door as he was on a work call? From memory they were left waiting for about an hour and DD had to wee in the garden.

I remember feeling so outraged for her, and find myself wondering now if it was just a one off or if the bastard has continued doing shitty things to them.

Any other ones that have left an impression?

There was one where a lady had arranged a holiday with two friends and one of the friend's husband insisted on coming. There was all sorts of advice about changing her booking and hiding from them.

I think he made a habit of turning up whenever she was invited to things.

safefacespace · 12/07/2021 20:04

I remember an awful one but i think it was years ago. I think the op was purple pavements or something pavements. She was in an awful situation because she'd lost her baby and was still sleeping with and being abused by her violent ex because it was the only link she had to her child Sad

catfunk · 12/07/2021 20:04

@ItsJustASimpleLine

I remember a one about wheelie bins and a neighbour kept putting them in the OPs garden or swapping the bin for a clean one. I cant remember exactly I had a new born at the time but I remember the excitement of bin day for an update, then there was nothing more said.
I read this one recently. Outrageous!
SecretKeeper1 · 12/07/2021 20:04

@nonevernotever

Why do people keep saying that span gran /neighbours putting in door to op's private garden was a troll? Iirc mumsnet hq checked her out and confirmed she was genuine, and the posts are still there to read. I thought they deleted threads started by trolls?
Indeed. I followed all ten (?) threads and have no recollection of it being called out as fake… maybe I missed a memo?

This is the most recent of the threads:

@2021hwg

I remember one from back in 2008 I think. It was when the financial crash had just happened. She was talking about how she lived in a fancy house and was wear expensive jewellery and jeans but didn't have enough money for milk. It really made me think. I have never forgotten her and I hope things got better
Was that the woman who go the advice to cancel the family zoo pass? As if that would help

I gave some very brutal advice about getting a full time job and stop messing about with being a house renovator and was savaged by the masses and called unkind. Probably a year later I got a PM from her saying that I gave her the kick up the backside that she needed.
@Whataroyalannoyance I don’t know if you’re talking Zeebrugge and her fictional aunt and uncle who had all her money and parent’s house…total fantasy.
I can't remember the name. She posted in legal. Years ago tho

I got warned for troll hunting on that one- right at the start. I still smart about it.

HomerSimpsonsDonut · 12/07/2021 20:07

So shocking to see how many of these sensitive threads turn out to be a troll. I don't understand what kicks they get out of making up shit like that?

goldie27 · 12/07/2021 20:08

I often think about someone called plantlife (I think) her partner had damaged her ear or something and she rarely left the house. Last time I checked she was trying to make plans to leave.
The women suffering domestic abuse always stick with me and I hope they get out

SecretKeeper1 · 12/07/2021 20:08

I loved the one where a MN’er was having a bit of a shit time on holiday, and another poster was at the same hotel. They met up and had a few drinks, and I often wonder if they’re still in touch. I can’t find the thread though. One of my favourite “real time” threads!!

MolyHolyGuacamole · 12/07/2021 20:08

@RuggerHug

It was over weeks and started off quite lighthearted since the OP said it's nothing woo there has to be a logical reason and people said to make sure all the windows stay shut because it could be as innocent as a neighbours cat getting it. Turned sinister over time as they noticed more stuff moving and then someone hiding by their car, iirc the ex had found them and was getting in through the attic from the empty house next door as the attic was one. She went to the police after noticing someone at the car and posted they were OK but every now and then they pop into my head. Especially since something as innocent as where is this bloody hair coming from was how she started checking other things and ruling things out. Someone is going to tell me now it was a troll...
Ooooh I guessed further up that this was the case but thought it more likely to be another woman!

But yes, could be a troll. This has actually happened in Japan www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/wbna24889337 so could easily have been used for inspiration.

Then again, if it's happened once before...

The one where the ironing board disappeared.

RedRec · 12/07/2021 20:09

There was one only last week that I have been thinking about, where the OP's husband was 'smitten' with another woman. It got taken down as the Daily Mail had got hold of it, but she was so lovely and I had become quite invested in the thread and was rooting for her.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 12/07/2021 20:11

@Simbacatisback it’s still up I think!! Like the certain ‘bus’ threads which cropped up at Christmas a few years back!

Zeebrugge’s way of writing was rather distinctive- weird chat about ‘special doctors’ etc!

2021hwg · 12/07/2021 20:12

@Simbacatisback that's so good to know. I have thought of her often over the years. It actually made me change my attitude to money in a big way.

MrsJBaptiste · 12/07/2021 20:14

@TableDesk Me!

I was on the BBC BAP board when pregnant with my eldest - he's 17 next week! 🤤

EmmalineC · 12/07/2021 20:16

@cabingirl

The one where the ironing board disappeared.
That was me. Not the poster, the person who nicked the ironing board. Have you seen the price of ironing boards? Shock
x2boys · 12/07/2021 20:16

@EmmalineC

Sad Widow and Margaritte were possibly the same person. Either way, they conned Mumsnetters out of gifts and money for two consecutive Christmases.
Yep I think the same just reread the thread on the back of this one weird, weird!
cabingirl · 12/07/2021 20:17

The post which got me reading AIBU was the office fridge one where the co-worker was taking over the whole fridge with her daily grocery shopping - it's in classics and had a conclusion but I always wondered what happened to interoffice relationships after the fridge fall out.

messybun101 · 12/07/2021 20:24

The woman who found a tracking device in her babies pram. And pp's tried to convince her it was ok because he could've just been testing it when she went for a walk. But he did it without telling her and had a form for buying and installing spyware...
I hope she is ok

Just found me- deleted

I posted something like there was no-one matching their description on the Zeebrugge memorial list.

I then posted that I knew people who died and it was very offensive to lie etc

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 12/07/2021 20:28

Most of the posters mentioned on this thread are probably self-publishing books on Amazon now.

Oh, well, I hope she's slightly more truthful these days! She must be, if she hasn't been removed!

Nope, still a troll. She must know where the bodies are buried at MNHQ...

SmidgenofaPigeon · 12/07/2021 20:29

@Simbacatisback so annoying to be seltzer for pointing out a glaring inconsistency Angry then other posters can’t see that sensibly people have pointed these out and get proper sucked into the story. Winds me up.

bargelights · 12/07/2021 20:30

I was a bit too gullible when I first discovered MN. I remember a real time thread about DV with the OP locking herself in the bedroom and a dramatic final post saying something like, "He's breaking down the door." MNHQ then deleted the thread and I felt like an idiot for believing a word of it.

I think I've become better at troll spotting since then. Most of the threads mentioned here are your basic troll threads. Not all of them, of course. But most of them.

Yes, I still think of the poster, skinters I think. Her post was something like ‘secretly poor’. I hope she’s getting on ok now.
