To wish - a bit - for a mild illness just so I’d get a break?

Maybe a short sign off work. Perhaps a night in hospital.
It’s all so relentless!
Dc2 does not sleep. Awake at 7am and up until 10.30pm. Always been the same. Dc1 has SEND and is Hard Work. My work is demanding and working with people with MH issues.
There seems no way off this treadmill!
Today dc2 was up at 6.45 - we were out of the house for 9.30am, we went to a local fair and then the park. Then I took them for lunch. Then we went to watch the local cricket and dc2 went on the playground. Got back about 5.30pm and dc2 is straight into wanting to do crafts. I make dinner and feed everyone. Dc1 wants me to go and play football with him now. I’m thinking god, another two hours before either of them are asleep. I am SHATTERED. The house is a tip because neither of them have an attention span unless it’s for a screen. I’ve got a mountain of laundry. I need to vacuum. I need to clean the bathrooms. I want to go to bed!
I’d love a day off - to sleep.

Why do you do 99% of the parenting?

My kids used to come to me all the time and I started saying "There are two adults in this house. You've just walked straight past Daddy. Go and ask him."

It was annoying at first, but they do go to him sometimes now.

OP I feel you!

I positively loved having appendicitis.

Sure, it was painful as fuck. But I went to hospital hung around for a couple of nights before the operation and during that time and afterwards the HCA's were offering tea left right and centre while I had my feet up.

It was absolutely blissful.

I read this thread yesterday and thought YES PLEASE. Today I am ill but no, I haven't had a break. FFS.

SleepyMathematician · 11/07/2021 16:48

I remember thinking I should rob a bank.

Don’t get caught, can pay for someone to clean, cook and help with the DCs. Get caught, have a break in prison.

Win win.

@Squirrelfluffkin

It doesn’t work. The tv only holds their interest for about half an hour. They get bored. They will go on iPads for a while but even so it’s not that long. They just don’t stop. They also tag team requests. So I do something with one and then the other wants something. There’s little overlap with them because if age and personality so basically I end up doing two separate things all the time.
It's fine for them to be bored. The world won't end. They can also get their own drinks/snacks (following rules/guidelines so they don't consume their weight in sweets!). Your DH also seems to have abdicated parenting - why have you accepted this?

No wonder you are knackered! I wonder if you're so knackered you haven't put any boundaries in place, or you've let the boundaries go.

The DC feeling that they must be entertained by you all the time, and you feeling that you must do it, isn't healthy. You work in mental health, what advice could you take to get a better balance @Squirrelfluffkin?

I was so excited for my vaccination, a 15 minute compulsory sit down afterwards in a doctors surgery with no phone reception, was amazing!

Jeez I'm half sad to see so many agree with this and half relieved it's not just me. I'm actually planning on handing notice into work this week as I can no longer cope. I need to get off the train

Yep, I had a 2 night stay in hospital recently with an ovarian cyst which had twisted. Once I had a nice dose of painkillers and the pain eased off it was nice to have a rest and read my book in peace!

Hankunamatata · 11/07/2021 22:29

You have a dh problem. Time to get a hobby and leave dh for some time with them.
