Would you block her in?

I’m WFH and just taking my lunch so thought I’d also whip the bin out. As I do, a car crawls past and then reverses into our parking spot. (It’s our private spot and has our number sprayed in it as well as a sign saying ‘Private parking for number 30’) A woman gets out so I said “Excuse me, sorry you can’t park there” she looks and me and just wanders off up the street.

I mean, I get she might not have realised (although the sign is big and prominent) but to be told and then still walk off without moving - the cheek.

I was a bit taken aback if I’m honest so went back in the house and then I thought, no sod this and I went and knocked on the door of the house she went in, I waited a bit but no one answered!

I wouldn’t mind as such if someone was quickly dropping something off but she’s obviously stopping for a bit. The annoying thing too is the house she’s gone in has a driveway and there’s room for this visitor on it. So I’m a bit Confused to why she’s parked in our private bay.

Grrr, I can’t keep knocking as going back to work (WFH) in a bit, so would I be unreasonable to just block her in with my car? Blush I feel like I need to make a point Grin

omg this is gold xD

Blossomtoes · 05/07/2021 17:18

I’ve never been a CF parker in my life. I’ve never been a territorial drama queen either. 🤷‍♀️

IsItTooEarlyForAGin · 05/07/2021 17:21

Haha this is brilliant! I detest people who park with no regard for other people. In my street which is a quiet cul de sac there's ample parking for all residents, only a few of us drive though, what gets me is the people visiting neighbours who park outside the neighbours houses where the road is narrow and makes it hard for any car to get past rather than walk 15 seconds to the top of the cul de sac where there's plenty of parking 🙄

MovingtoOz1Day · 05/07/2021 17:21

@EarringsandLipstick

I can tell on this thread who the CF parkers are and who aren’t 😬🤭

Well, not me! I'm against the blocking action but I'm absolutely not a CF re parking. I'm ridiculously rule-abiding.

Where my kids go to school there are crazy CF parkers, does drive me mad (it's also sometimes dangerous - parked on corners, double yellow lines, obscuring visibility).

I'd never park like this woman - I think I'm a decent person so just wouldn't, and I also really hate breaking rules.

I haven't once defended CF parking woman. I was clear she was wrong. It was the 'blocking her in to teach her a lesson' approach I didn't agree with.

I think you've made your point now
HotToddyColdSauvignon · 05/07/2021 17:22

Oh god I’m loving this, and loving your neighbour OP!!!

Er, thanks thread police 😳

I wasn't aware there was a post limit that is adjudicated by you.

I was responding to a post from OP. I think that's allowed 🤔

You handled this situation very well. What does it say about me that I am desperately disappointed that we didn't get to hear about the reaction when you blocked the CF in? :)

catpyjamas · 05/07/2021 17:26

He parked on CF neighbors drive?

No he can't park in the CF neighbour's drive because then CF's husband will park across the drive blocking in OP's neighbour. Parking across the CF's drive was the only option.
Now the question is where will CF's husband park? Grin

She didn’t block anyone in.

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

Except this particular CF hasn’t actually inconvenienced anyone.

They've inconvenienced OP - or do you think OP is unreasonable for wanting to protect her private property? As it happens, they've parked up in there a few hours before one of the rightful users had planned to use it, but for all they know, somebody could have been planning to park there a few minutes after they'd just walked off. One of the householders could have regular carers who are due to arrive. They neither knew nor cared.

Let's not kid ourselves that it isn't actually an inconvenience for somebody to help themselves to your own private property and assume that you - the rightful owner - will just fit in or rearrange your own plans to suit them.

Agreed.
Couldhavebeenme2 · 05/07/2021 17:27

I love your nice neighbour!!

Xiaoxiong · 05/07/2021 17:29

Brilliant!! I can tell why you get on with that neighbour Grin

Placemarking - can't wait to hear what happens when CF parker and the person she's visiting realise the drive is blocked!

BobbidyBob · 05/07/2021 17:30

I’m invested now! Looking forward to the update!

No one wants your concertos here, Mary.
lalafafa · 05/07/2021 17:31

Great move by your neighbour, he's thinking tactically, see how she feels.

GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin · 05/07/2021 17:34

Except this particular CF hasn’t actually inconvenienced anyone.

Here's the thing. How does she know that? She's happy to take a risk with other peoples convenience isn't she.

Absolutely, how did she know OP's partner wasn't just about to drop off his car before leaving for something that was time specific? I used to have a specified parking place and it caused no end of problems if I was just dropping off the car before leaving for the station (on foot because the parking at the station is extortionate, before anyone assumes I'd have been taking the car with me).

Similarly, my old landlord missed an important hospital appointment because a neighbour's visitor blocked in their car. The CF parkers have no idea whether they'll cause a problem or not.

It's not the outcome that matters but the behaviour. If she is allowed to get away with it, she'll do it again when it does matter.*
This is the point defenders of CFery are completely missing.

3Britnee · 05/07/2021 17:36

Any update op?

CountessDracula · 05/07/2021 17:37

It is very annoying

Years ago I lived in a block of flats where there were 5 parking spaces, then another one which blocked all 5 of the other cars in. There was an agreement that you had your flat no on the car so if you parked in this space then if someone wanted to get out you would buzz them, and you could only use the space if you were in and happy to be disturbed.

One morning I got up and there was a car that didn't belong to anyone in the flats blocking 5 of us in. I couldn't get out so I called the police and they asked if it was blocking a road, I said no it's blocking 5 of us in. They said that unless it was blocking a road they couldn't do anything, so I forced the window down. let off the handbrake and rolled it into the road (there was a middle bit so the cars could still get past), put the handbrake back on and called the police and told them there was a car blocking the road Grin

It was gone when I got back

Doris86 · 05/07/2021 17:37

@roguetomato

If it doesn't affect me, I would ignore it. I don't understand the point of causing trouble. If her car is still there when DH came home, then you have reason to be annoyed.
So you wouldn’t mind if someone parked in your drive if you weren’t using it?

Private parking spaces are driveways are effectively the same thing.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 05/07/2021 17:39

@igelkott2021

You did realise I was referring to OP, didn't you - and not the CF parker?!

GabriellaMontez · 05/07/2021 17:41

Funny. I hope the cf is inconvenienced enough to use her own drive in future.
