Will you continue to wear a mask when they’re no longer compulsory?

I can’t really decide how I feel about it- as a pregnant woman with a tendency to get a bit sweaty in the face on warm days, I would like not to have to wear one whenever I’m inside a building that isn’t my own home. And I’m double jabbed so not at much risk. But then you’ve got people from SAGE and the BMA saying we should keep wearing them, and I’d imagine they know a bit better than Sajid Javid whose background is in finance.

What do you think?

YABU- I’ll continue to wear a mask
YANBU - I won’t be wearing a mask anymore.

Nope. Never wearing one again. I’ll just avoid (non clinical) places that insist on it.

Silvercatowner · 05/07/2021 14:35

Yes, in supermarkets etc.

OhToBeASeahorse · 05/07/2021 14:36

I'm as likely to do this as I am to wear flippers on the bus.

Macncheeseballs · 05/07/2021 14:36

Exconstance - not having to go to the bar and get a drink has been one of my favourite things about the last year

Inextremis · 05/07/2021 14:41

My front teeth look a bit wonky, and I have a double chin. Wearing a mask gives me confidence - so yes, I'll be wearing mine whenever possible! I'm double jabbed and try to be considerate of others, so that's a double good plus - happy to remove mask if interacting with anyone who is HoH though.

blackcurrantjam · 05/07/2021 14:42

No!!

MrsFezziwig · 05/07/2021 14:42

It amuses me how dramatic some people are saying they’re going to burn their masks.

Yes, they’ll have to find something else to moan about, it’s ridiculous that people have nothing more important to be stressing about. I’ve never had an issue with people not wearing them for genuine reasons, and I’ll be happy to give mine up, but if someone wants me to wear one for a particular reason I’m fine with that too.

I do feel it is a bit counterintuitive to give them up when infections are soaring just because Boris wants to make a grand gesture on 19th July.

blackcurrantjam · 05/07/2021 14:43

@SuperstoreFan

Yes we will, I strongly believe that Bojo is trying to get herd immunity through vaccinations and infections.
Isn't that what we need? Confused
Dreamstate · 05/07/2021 14:44

I won't be wearing a mask unless I'm refused entry

MrsFezziwig · 05/07/2021 14:46

I'm looking forwrd so much to going up to a bar and ordering a pint, as nature intended.

I’m distressed that I won’t be able to lounge about at a table while someone brings me my drinks! Also that I’m going to have to start sharing my visits to museums, cinemas etc, with crowds of people instead of a lovely leisurely visit (though I do realise that my preferences aren’t much good for the economy!).

queenatom · 05/07/2021 14:48

Probably on public transport and medical settings. Probably not when travelling around the office or walking three steps from the door of a restaurant to my table. Possibly in supermarkets, at the very least till I'm double vaccinated (do most of my grocery shopping online anyway so I'm rarely in a supermarket for longer than 5 minutes).

TableFlowerss · 05/07/2021 14:49

Absolutely not! Can’t stand them

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/07/2021 14:51

I won't wear one.

Backhills · 05/07/2021 14:52

I won't have a deliberately stroppy policy of not wearing them, but I imagine I'll wear them much less often. Basically I shall conform with what the special norm appears to be, so if most people continue so will I, otherwise I won't.

TheGenealogist · 05/07/2021 14:52

@Fitforforty

I will continue to wear a mask in shops etc. Masks are there to protect others and I’m not selfish.
I hoped we'd moved on from the shitty, passive aggressive, snide little digs.

Wear a mask if you like. I really could not give two hoots. But don't be coming over all superior with your virtue signalling about how you are unselfish and doing it to protect others, and therefore those of us who will choose to abandon masks asap are conversely selfish, uncaring bastards. Just no.

And as for SAGE... well, they have one focus, don't they? Stopping infection. And quite obviously easing any measures is going to make infections rise. And also quite obviously keeping masks would make that happen less quickly.

But it's not just about what SAGE thinks is it? It's about hospitalisation rates, and hte mental health crisis, and children's education, and furlough, and the economy, and vaccinations, and the thousands of other factors which the government have to consider and SAGE don't give any thought to whatsoever.

MrsToothyBitch · 05/07/2021 14:53

I'll be picking and choosing- so public transport & anywhere busy, yes for sure and I'll carry one on me for awhile yet- and spares in the car. I also plan to keep wearing one through the month or so after "freedom day" as I'm convinced there will be a bit of a spike.

I hate the bloody things though, they break me out, I miss getting made up and they pinch my ears and give me pressure headaches. I get those anyway but it's been worse since masks became mandatory. I can't wait to not need one when I go for a pee in a restaurant.

The only thing I ever liked them for was to pin my TfL offer me a seat badge on. Stopped giving blokes an excuse to leer at my cleavage.

bendmeoverbackwards · 05/07/2021 14:53

What a depressing thread.

I think we should all still be wearing them at least until we get 70% vaccinated. And I wish there was better advice as to the best masks to get.

I'm sick of people moaning that they 'don't like them'. Suck it up.

Yes! It was wonderful to watch the football in a civilised fashion, sitting at a table of six while food and drink were brought to us, rather than crammed in, standing room only with beer flying. Although, I do accept the pub prefers the other way.

People won’t have to though. If they don’t like them they just won’t wear them.
MarshaBradyo · 05/07/2021 14:55

Vote is fifty fifty.

I’m going to wait and see, not sure yet

TheGoogleMum · 05/07/2021 14:56

I will probably wear one sometimes but less often. Not very logical I admit. I find it annoying not being able to wear my glasses with them and and sometimes if I feel hot or hungry it can make me feel a bit unwell, but I'll try to wear when possible!

RuggerHug · 05/07/2021 14:57

Yup because I know people who aren't vaccinated yet(not in UK) and while the Delta would probably knock the shit out of me for a few days it'd be worse for them if I passed it on. Once everyone who wants the vaccine here can get it I'm not as bothered about protecting those that refused(unless they're compromised in another way of course).

bendmeoverbackwards · 05/07/2021 14:57

@MarshaBradyo yet another cock-up by our alleged Government. And they have said that cases will continue to rise! Israel has just re-instated masks.

SamW98 · 05/07/2021 14:57

Must admit I prefer table service. Its much more civilised than cramming up the bar waving notes and being ignored while the loud shouty men get served first

Thats one change I would like to remain although I do understand its not cost effective for many bars and pubs

You aren't in charge though. If they're not a legal requirement after the 19th then it's literally none of your business what others are doing.
