Dogs in Restaurants

IDontGetOutMuch · 04/07/2021 20:05

Took my mum out to lunch today. It was a nice enough place-£25 per head.
Have expectations changed with regard to dogs in restaurants? There were four other tables in our section and three had a dog with them.
Two of them barked at least three times during the meal. One jumped up at a waitress carrying puddings to another table, paws on her apron. One jumped up at the table wanting to be fed. One was petted by another waitress who then went straight to a table to take orders without washing hands. One was lying in the way so that I had to ask the owner to move it to allow my mother to get through with her Walker.
We had a dog when I was a child. He never went to a restaurant. What about people with allergies?
Is it okay that they do? Do I need to get over myself? I tried to compare to children. I expect my children to cause no disturbance to others at a restaurant and to stay at the table. We expected this even when they were little and actually rarely went to restaurants anyway.

Dog haters can go to Wetherspoons. They don’t allow dogs anywhere on the premises.

We were turned away from the garden of an almost empty ‘spoons as we had a dog with us. Their loss. They lost a table of 6 wanting a full lunch and drinks to the dog friendly pub a few doors down that was almost full. We got the last table.

Allowing dogs or not is a business decision.

I don't want to engage with you anymore, I've rarely seen such shocking lack of sympathy and so much narrow mindedness towards humans. Says it all

Your interpretation is what's at fault. I'm a respectful person who follows the rules, and is responsive if someone tells me they're uncomfortable. There have been no issues in 8 years with my conduct with my dog, so I'm not worried that I'm doing anything wrong.

If you think you should be able to make the rules, and that anybody who disagrees with you is narrow minded and lacking sympathy, knock yourself out. You've a long hard slog ahead, though. Good luck.

It really wasn't.

This is the sense of entitlement I mean. Shocked and aggrieved because it's not a dog friendly place.

Thanks for the tip though, I'll keep it in mind that Wetherspoons doesn't allow dogs.

Also, being indifferent to something, or even disliking something, is not the same as being a "hater". Carry that with you in life. It's a useful nugget for any situation.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/07/2021 11:14

I have dogs.

I take them to the pub and they are perfectly behaved.

I wouldn’t take to a restaurant.

In my experience it works well and it’s only on MN where you have all the drama about dogs, and to be precise it’s a few vocal dog hating posters who cause all that. They start with all the implausible scenarios and they start with the fur baby name calling. No one I know in real life calls their dog that.

Vermin, FFS. Why would anyone call dogs that.

Once again, the rule is not "bring a dog".

Im not trying to change rules, what an odd thing to say. I'm just saying that "dog friendly" isn't a "rule" it's a guideline based on certain factors.

I can't believe I'm having to explain things that are so extremely obvious

SillyLittleBiscuit · 06/07/2021 11:17

Their loss = shocked and aggrieved? And it’s dog lovers that are using hyperbolic language.

Plenty of completely ott rants from people who are indifferent.

TheFoundations · 06/07/2021 11:17

Can you tell me why you think your dog has a actual right over every human walking in simply because it says "dog friendly"

Yes, I can tell you. It's because my dog has been expressly allowed to be there. It's been written in the rules of the person who owns the property that my dog is allowed to be on that property.

Can you answer my question?

Why do you think you should be making the rules about what happens on somebody else's property, when your rules conflict with those of the owner of that property?

I don't take him to the PO. Haven't needed a PO in years. But if I needed one and had my dog with me and he was allowed in I would take him in. HTH

Almost all of my friends have dogs. Do you know how often I see their dogs? Almost never! They don't bring them around with them, they are normal, kind, people. They know they love their dogs and that not eveyrone else does. That's what normal dog owners do
Surely they don't bring their dog when they meet with you because they know you dislike them. That doesn't mean they don't in other time.

I personally think dog owners who get on with their life as before they got a dog, leaving at home when they could take the dogs are awful owners and shouldn't have a dog in the first place.

LunaPe · 06/07/2021 12:16

Really gross to allow dogs at restaurants and anywhere food is sold. I don't understand this new need to take your dog everywhere. Many people don't like dogs, don't want to be bothered by dogs, don't want the smell, the slobber, the noise.

I actively boycott establishments that allow dogs. I need to get better at telling places why, because this bring your dog everywhere trend is only getting worse.

People are so selfish. Zero consideration for those of us who are allergic to dogs.
Please, leave your dog at home.

It's not about the rights of the dog, it's about the right ls of the owners to take their dog. So human's rights in both instances. Why does yours systematically take priority over yours when I'm ensuring I oy take my dog where they are welcome?

rantymcrantface66 · 06/07/2021 12:20

@LST if you actively boycott dog friendly establishments why do you mind if we take our dogs to one. You won't be there. You'll be somewhere my dog can't go so everyone will be happy!

Your right to do. Pointless and useless but your right. I'll continue to take my dog where they are welcome and hopefully you'll avoid these places so it won't be an issue.

I do struggle to u nderstand why you so desperately want to do business with places that clearly have a totally different ethos to yours.

And tomorrow... THE WORLD!!

Unfortunately for you, this public vote is already taking place, and losing your custom will coincide with an increase in custom from parties with dogs. That's why it's happening; because businesses get more custom this way. Because you are in the minority.

But yes, if you take your business elsewhere, problem solved.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/07/2021 12:25

I think society is being brainwashed into thinking dogs are man's best friend, and an asset to family life.

Don't have one then, be free of the brainwash. I'm sure no dog would want to live with you anyway.

TheFoundations · 06/07/2021 12:26

@LunaPe

Dogs are filthy animals. I really think those who allow them in their own homes are skanky, with zero understanding of hygiene

Nobody minds that you think this. It doesn't make any difference to anything.

Shudder:

[/quote] 33% of households in the Uk have dogs. That's around 22 million living with them and not falling fowl and becoming ill due to their skanky canine lodgers. In fact it's been noticed that dc growing up with pets often have fewer allergies and better immune systems. Hysterical YouTube info won't put anyone off. It's just along the same lines as the anti vax or cure everything with turmeric videos
Malin52 · 06/07/2021 12:30

I adore dogs. Life is made better by the presence of a dog. I can't stand children. The sense of entitlement people have in bringing their dirty, untrained, loud, messy, stinky brats into adult establishments such as pubs and restaurants. I actively avoid anywhere that welcomes children.

People are different. Have garish 'family friendly' places all to yourself and I'll stick to my lovely dog and adult friendly places. We are all happy.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/07/2021 12:31

I Gove my dogs turmeric supplements for their joints.

Replace 'dog' with 'children'. That's the way I feel.
