To think it’s coming home

I mean, I definitely am Grin

But 4-0 in a quarter and no goals conceded?

There’s a little glimmer! (I know MN hates football, but just this one time!)

I have a lot of hope in this young team and Southgate. It is finally coming home!!

nc8765 · 03/07/2021 23:10

IT'S COMING HOME ⚽️

Coasterfan · 03/07/2021 23:12

I just want Gareth Southgate on my telly as long as possible I ve had a ridiculous crush on him since the 2018 World Cup!!

Bitofachinwag · 03/07/2021 23:12

How can football "come home"?

llm24 · 03/07/2021 23:12

let’s hope not 😂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Ratalie · 03/07/2021 23:13

I wouldn't make them favorites, but they certainly have a real chance. Good luck!

RozHuntleysLeftHand · 03/07/2021 23:13

So in conclusion.... With a massive touching of wood..... (ooer missus!) Grin

It's just likely to be coming home!!

Ostryga · 03/07/2021 23:14

@RozHuntleysLeftHand I was completely expecting a 2-1 to Ukraine, especially with their match against Sweden!

I’m so used to England losing it after a goal and being complacent.

I have to say they’re looking so good. But I don’t want to jinx it! Their set pieces were glorious. Th set-ups 😍

Because football was born in Britain from as far back as the medieval times! So, it’s coming home!! (If we win, eeek!)

Gareth Southgate is a superb Manager and it does feel good that we have an England team to be proud of. It's all about the football and that's how it should be.

My worry, though, is that apart from tonight we've not beaten teams convincingly.
That's irrelevant though. You so often see teams storm the group stages only to get promptly dumped out (the Netherlands this time out, for example) whereas the winners are often (perhaps even usually) the team that consistently grind out narrow victories throughout.

RovenderKitt · 03/07/2021 23:22

Shhh, don’t get too excited! Been here too many times to dare to believe, but COME ON ENGLAND 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

AliceLivesHere · 03/07/2021 23:23

@andyindurham

Forwards win games, defences win championships. No goals conceded in five games, you say?

My worry, though, is that apart from tonight we've not beaten teams convincingly. Concede the first goal against Denmark, or either potential opponent in the final, and we'll need to play a different type of game - and the evidence of the Scotland performance suggests we might struggle to get back into a game if we have to. But I'm pretty sure Italy or Spain would prefer to play Denmark in the final, and I'll take that at this stage.

We won 2-0 against Germany! We also haven't conceded a goal - that's brilliant.

Yep this is exactly how I felt!

It's the hope that gets you though.

Never know whether to be completely pessimistic or cautiously optimistic?!

I'm just going to enjoy the next few days of hope I think but not have high expectations I guess?

Gaaah it's hard!

UrbanRambler · 03/07/2021 23:45

I'm not keen on football, but I can't help feeling slightly impressed by the England team and I'm actually daring to hope that they might win. Watching the reaction of fans around the country has been entertaining and it's nice to see people so happy. YANBU to have hope (but be prepared for disappointment... you know how these things go).

FlaminEckVera · 03/07/2021 23:48

YESSSSSSSSSSS! Grin

TuesdayRuby · 03/07/2021 23:56

Commmee on Ennnglaannddd!

Definitely coming home Grin

JudgeJ · 03/07/2021 23:58

@Fluellablue

I am worried that my 8 and 7 year old are being misled into thinking that this kind of euphoria is what watching England is typically like! Grin How can I adequately prepare them for a lifetime of disappointment when England are playing like they did tonight?! Grin
My daughter said this about her children, they didn't live through the horrors of the '90s and penalty shoot outs, they know nothing!
ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 03/07/2021 23:58

YANBU

IT'S COMING HOME!!!!

I had my war paint & t-shirt on. both helped enormously 🤣

To think it’s coming home
JudgeJ · 04/07/2021 00:00

Considering that fans couldn't travel from the UK, though other countries' fans seem to be able to travel here, the ones who were there certainly made themselves heard!

Gingernaut · 04/07/2021 00:04

What's coming home?

I stayed home all day.

Nothing else is at home with me now.

AnUnoriginalUsername · 04/07/2021 00:05

I love when people are excited about it, the whole country feels different . It was the same in the last worlds. They did brill tonight

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/07/2021 00:08

Football has already booked those PCR tests because it's so coming home!!!
