To think it’s coming home

I mean, I definitely am Grin

But 4-0 in a quarter and no goals conceded?

There’s a little glimmer! (I know MN hates football, but just this one time!)

Denmark are not to be taken lightly and are a good team but they are not unbeatable nor have they really been challenged this tournament.
Again with Italy a great team but so far they haven’t beaten anyone who you wouldn’t expect them to beat. So far for both of them their roads have been pretty easy. We are now getting down to the real nitty gritty of the tournament where anything can happen.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/07/2021 12:10

I agree but anything already happened: Portugal out, Germany out...🤣

can't wait to see England going all the way. I think they will

the80sweregreat · 04/07/2021 12:21

Football is a strange game.
0/0 Scotland ( told your useless) then 4/0 ' we might win this ' !
It was nice seeing people happy though.

Crankley · 04/07/2021 12:51

Fernando072020
England couldn't beat Scotland
Beat a very poor Germany side
And 4-0 was against Ukraine.
No chance will they win when they're up against Italy or Spain

How lovely that you have such a positive attitude. Hmm

I'm not a football fan but always watch when England is playing, just like I did in 1966 when England beat Germany in the World Cup. I lived in Germany at the time and I watched it on tv with about 15 Germans. Grin

the80sweregreat · 04/07/2021 12:55

The route to the 66 World Cup final was a bit rocky too I believe! They were written off early there as well.

randomkey123 · 04/07/2021 12:58

I love the fact that they've put a smile onto so many peoples faces during this god awful pandemic. They've played exceptionally well in the last 2 matches, and it's such a moment of light hearted relief. Good on them all. Though we do have Covid to thank for keeping the WAGS out of the stadiums and media Grin

the80sweregreat · 04/07/2021 12:59

Yes, been nice it's not all about what the ' wags ' are wearing ( or not wearing )

Aprilx · 04/07/2021 13:02

@Fluellablue

I am worried that my 8 and 7 year old are being misled into thinking that this kind of euphoria is what watching England is typically like! Grin How can I adequately prepare them for a lifetime of disappointment when England are playing like they did tonight?! Grin
Next game should do it.

OP, no I don’t think it’s coming home.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 04/07/2021 13:04

I think this is the strongest team in a long time.

Brilliant players. No profiling divers or dirty tactics. No melodramatic waving their hands at the Ref when they don't get their way. Great team work, they were so in sync last night and were exactly where they all needed to be for each other. Excellent communication.

This squad has sure separated the men from the boys!

France is out too! I didn't see that one coming
the80sweregreat · 04/07/2021 13:21

I'll be gutted if it goes wrong for them , which it may well do :(

llm24 · 04/07/2021 13:43

@Dizzy1234

England might have played shitty teams like Scotland but you still couldn’t beat us 😂

the80sweregreat · 04/07/2021 14:11

No, couldn't beat Scotland.
That was a strange game.
It's weird how all the games have been so different.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/07/2021 14:57

I have it on good authority that Football has packed its suitcase, had a negative PCR test, done a few laps in the hotel pool, put the negative & pessimistic noise cancelling headphones on and is just waiting for the limo to the airport.

because it's coming home.

PhilSwagielka · 04/07/2021 15:42

I'd be so happy if we did win it, but I honestly don't think we will because of Italy. We MIGHT get into the finals, but have you seen how good Italy are? They're like a well-oiled machine and I can't see Spain beating them, even with Spinazzola out. They gave Belgium a hard time and Belgium are top ranked. And Donnarumma is an amazing goalie.

PhilSwagielka · 04/07/2021 15:44

@DuncinToffee

There was a reason Germany was in with France and Portugal, they were ranked low and not seeded first or second for the group phases, so whilst not being shit, they weren't very good either.

England just have to beat Denmark, hopefully Pickford can keep a successive 6th clean sheet

I don't know if you're an Everton fan or not, but I am and I wish Pickford played like that for us. He's been great.
the80sweregreat · 04/07/2021 15:44

Italy might get beaten by Spain ?
One glimmer of hope there ?
( not very sportsperson like i know!)

ShouldersBackChestOutChinUp · 04/07/2021 16:52

I really think Gareth and his team are brilliant. Really worthy squad and seem like a nice bunch of young men too.

Luxplus · 04/07/2021 17:11

I'm cheering for Denmark being Danish and think we have a chance on Wednesday, just have to hope and cheer them on. And no matter what happens I still think Denmark won a lot of ppl hearts showing how we stick together when one player is down...

PlacidPenelope · 04/07/2021 17:14

England are doing really well and I for one am proud of them but daren't give in to hoping too much as I've lived through their many previous disasters!!

The Italy v Spain game will be a competition of who can dive and roll around the most, I hope the referees are stricter on these tactics than they have been to date. Spain have been a bit hit and miss and the loss of Spinazzola for Italy could upset their game.

Denmark will be tough.

It's been an odd competition - Belgium were the No.1 rated team in the World and they are out, France should have sailed through with the talent they have, they're out, Portugal the current title holders, they're out.

England are going to have to dig deep and dictate how the game is played and not allow the opposition to do so, if we can do that we stand a damn good chance if we get sucked in as in previous times and try to beat them playing their way we will lose.

wanttomarryamillionaire · 04/07/2021 17:23

Lasts night's game was amazing and the team showed us what they were capable of, however Denmark are far far better than the Ukraine. I do however think that this team has a far better chance of going all the way than any other English team in years. They play cohesively as a unit rather than one or two of them showboating.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/07/2021 17:23

Pickford will keep a clean sheet. Pickford is brilliant.

Pickford could've saved Alderaan.
Pickford could've saved the Challenger.
Pickford could've saved the Titanic

Any particular reason for that? My Irish family are always ABE. I feel a bit embarrassed about it to be honest.

I agree with that Luxplus, Denmark's behaviour was excellent and they have rightly won a lot of admiration for it. A part of me would like to see them get the fairy tale ending because of that and if they beat England I shall be cheering Denmark on to achieve that.
