@Peregrina

Not sure that Johnson and Hancock have deeply hidden redeeming features myself.

What did someone like Carrie see in Johnson - status I would imagine. Once he decides he's had enough or the Tory Party decided to get rid of him, she will be out of the door.

Hancock - ????

Hancock and Johnson seem human rather than robotic.
borntobequiet · 03/07/2021 09:32

@AlecTrevelyan006

Some people are average looking but still quite photogenic - Gove definitely isn’t
I’m the opposite, apparently quite attractive in real life but in photos look much older than I actually am, drunk and slightly unhinged.
the80sweregreat · 03/07/2021 09:33

Hancock's appeal is odd but a thread about him being attractive on mumsnet threw up some interesting comments. Many do like him.
Someone finds Gove appealing and wants to sleep with him. Humans are complex individuals and attractiveness isn't a exact science as shown on many a thread.

Peregrina · 03/07/2021 09:35

Sarah wears shirt, £655, Victoria Beckham
Sarah wears shirt that would pay for a family to survive for a month.

Scraping the barrel a bit now, with your vitriol.

Yes, but when schoolchildren are going hungry and nurses who have bailed us out over the Covid crisis are only offered a 1% rise, flaunting such wealth is tasteless. Who on earth pays £655 for a shirt anyway!

Getyourjab · 03/07/2021 09:38

From my 5 minute close- up experience of Michael Gove (standing next to him in a long queue in a Cambridge bookshop) he was much taller and better looking than his photos suggest, immaculately well- groomed and even radiated a certain charisma chatting to staff about something or other.
I was quite surprised. And no, I’m not a fan!

dottiedodah · 03/07/2021 09:40

JustcallmeBebes I too feel sorry for them .Sarah Vine seemed happy in her role as a Journalist ,and I sometimes read her articles.Apart from the fact that they have 2 children together who will be caught up in any fallout ,divorce is difficult for everyone and they are no different .

Anniegetyourgun · 03/07/2021 09:41

Shortly after starting a temporary job in an education role, a colleague made a disparaging remark about the then SoS for Education. I went over to her desk and said "Excuse me, I think I heard you say that you would like to shoot Michael Gove. I must object." She looked at me with eyebrow raised. "There's a queue," I explained. We got on fine from that moment.

the80sweregreat · 03/07/2021 09:42

I avoid having photos done of myself as I always look rank! I've been told I'm not ( just normal, no oil painting getting on a bit ) but photogenic I am not at all. At least I can delete the worst ones these days straight away and not have to pay 'snappy snaps ' to print them off!

Anniegetyourgun · 03/07/2021 09:44

Sorry, I re-edited the above and ended up with a misleading sentence - I had recently started the job, she was already there and her role had suffered greatly from government policy changes.

Notonthestairs · 03/07/2021 09:51

@thecatfromjapan

You know, everyone keeps saying Gove is Murdoch's choice.

But ... he doesn't have that 'thing' that sways voters, does he?

I just can't see him as Leader of the Conservatives. I don't think they see him as electorally popular enough to be Leader.

Agree with this.

I don't think there is anything that Murdoch can do that would make Gove a vote winner - either within the Conservative party members or the public at large.

He came third in the leadership election - if he were to run against Hunt now I wonder who'd win.

I'd love to know how they think they can change public view of him.

Notonthestairs · 03/07/2021 09:52

Scrap that - I'd forgotten about Sunak.

longwayoff · 03/07/2021 09:53

As u say, dottiedoodah, they are no different. But they believe that they are and that's why the ponificating, the bragging, the sneering 'we know better than you plebs, so you can do this, whilst we do otherwise' attitudes are so bloody annoying. The whole of the current Tory government is wearing the Emperory's New Clothes.

SecretSpAD · 03/07/2021 09:55

Signal is certainly the golden boy who can currently do no wrong.....Hunt has been too critical of the govt over covid, but has rehabilitated himself slightly over the NHS as compared to Hancock he looked competent and caring. Yeah I know, low bar and all that.

Lampzade · 03/07/2021 09:57

@lollipoprainbow

Ghastly woman she writes some nasty stuff about Harry and Meghan as does Jan Moir and the rest of the daily mail.
Agree that she writes some awful stuff about Harry and Meghan and the comments are not moderated. Now the attention is on her marriage the comments have been moderated. Hopefully, she will get a taste of the nasty medicine that she has been doling out to others. She is vile and so is her soon to be ex husband .
SecretSpAD · 03/07/2021 09:57

Gove is mistrusted even by his own side. He stuck the knife in his good friend Cameron and went against Boris. He might be toeing the line now, but I don't think anyone wants him in power. But then, I never did understand the Tory hive mind.

longwayoff · 03/07/2021 09:59

Am pondering on Gove. He stabbed Bozo in the back but now appears to be a trusted right hand man. Being a bit of a vengeful person, I wonder how this is working out. Is this Bozos's opportunity for payback? Is Carrrie nursing a grievance? Defenestration beckons, hopefully.

C8H10N4O2 · 03/07/2021 09:59

I just can't see him as Leader of the Conservatives. I don't think they see him as electorally popular enough to be Leader

The problem I have is seeing any of the current cabinet as Prime Minister. By narrowing the party's Westminster cohort to only MPs who will nod alonga Boris its become the lowest calibre cabinet I can recall of any stripe.

There have been many cabinets I've disagreed with on policy but even where there was an excess of ideology there was usually a reasonable degree of competence.

Peregrina · 03/07/2021 10:03

I can't see any of them having the qualities needed to be PM - but I can think of a long queue who might fancy their chances - Sunak, Patel, Truss, and even the newly rehabilitated Javid, might throw their hats into the ring.

As an aside, I wonder if there are a good few MPs going home this weekend to check on the state of their marriages?

Notonthestairs · 03/07/2021 10:07

That's quite a depressing list of potential candidates Peregrina. (Well it's depressing to me).

Zilla1 · 03/07/2021 10:07

I wonder what the aggregate payments made by the Times, Telegraph, Daily Mail, Spectator? have been for the journalism (column writing?) of Mssrs Gove, Johnson, Ms Vine and others?

If the alternatives are Gove, Patel, Williamson, Jenrick, Shapps, Sunak, Javid and the others, perhaps the PM should be wished well.

ravelston · 03/07/2021 10:17

Strangely enough this was not the main headline on the side bar of shame. Funny that

travellinglighter · 03/07/2021 10:18

@princessandthedragon

I judge a party on their policies not their extra/ marital affairs. I imagine most mps have some skeletons in their closets. Any excuse for a bit of Tory bashing though I suppose 😂
Would you be saying the same if it was labour, or would you be labour bashing as well. By the way I’m not a labour supporter and bashing the corrupt, incompetence and duplicity of this government is an absolute requirement if we want to save democracy in this country.
the80sweregreat · 03/07/2021 10:20

Sunak is waiting in the wings for a shot at the big job.
It's always the quiet ones you have to watch pot for.
Gove would appeal to a certain kind of voter though.

Xenia · 03/07/2021 10:21

Gove it not likely to be PM. Rishi Sunak might be.

the80sweregreat · 03/07/2021 10:25

Javid would be a tough leader , austerity would come back in spades I think.
He'd be popular though.
Sunak is just as dangerous too though , beneath the smile and cute pup.
