Pregnant immediately after abortion

I feel like an absolute idiot.
Had abortion mid may. Yet to have a period, just tested positive so I guess that’s why.
Not much else to say really. I’m devastated. Have been on the pill the whole time. Not sure even how far along i am, as I’ve had sex a couple of times a week up until last week since two weeks post abortion.
I’ve already called the abortion provider for another consultation and they were lovely and non judgemental but I feel so embarrassed and disgusted in myself. Has anyone else been through this? How did you feel? I am hoping they’ll be able to post the tablets out to me again but as I can’t pinpoint my gestation I feel they might want me to go in to their clinic
Thank you

@Merryoldgoat I take amitriptyline for pain but Google says it doesn’t interact. Other than that, none of those things

That won't. Do you take st John's wart or any other herbs? St John's wart specifically is known for reducing efficacy of the pill. Is it the pill or mini pill? The later has a much shorter window and needs to be taken close to same time each 24 hours.

You didn't know previously that the pill wasn't working for you, it's very reasonable to expect that there was a one off issue the first time, no one should be blaming you for that. Once this is done talk to your GP about alternatives to the pill. I know 2 women who have gotten pregnant on several forms of hormonal birth control and have to use condoms to be safe.

Oh, bloody zombie! 😱

I checked the date but only as far as looking at day and month 🤦

Fifi0102 · 01/07/2022 23:59

Are you taking any medication? The medication I'm on makes hormonal birth control less effective and more chance of birth defects. They had to up my dose of hormones for it to work properly . I had an abortion due to this medication the doctor never told me that side effect.

@Nickmoooooo no, it’s not his body. Massively bad taste give the current fiasco in the US, so suggest you fuck off with your misogynistic views.

ladydoris · 02/07/2022 01:59

Hopefully it's still positive from your first. All the best OP. You should switch contraception.

Well, as she’s not you I’m not sure why you need to be able to imagine it. Guilt and/or grief are not actually an inevitability when you have an abortion, or abortions.

Carlycat · 02/07/2022 03:15

You're certainly not an idiot Flowers
Consider sterilisation if you never want to have children. I did at age 30. Best decision I've ever made

daisychain01 · 02/07/2022 06:47

IMO this thread shouldn't be on a general board such as AIBU. It's a very sensitive subject. The discussion could be really triggering for someone who is struggling with fertility to read all the graphic details about scans, abortion and becoming pg again within weeks.

Well my uterus was completely clear on my scan post abortion (I had a scan as I didn’t feel I’d passed enough to complete the abortion) so it’s not continued pregnancy or retained tissue. I also only had faint positive tests two weeks after the abortion and the one I have taken today is a strong dark positive. I believe 100% that it’s a new pregnancy. I’m just hoping that the provider will post me the tablets again so I can have another at home abortion, it was so much less traumatic than I imagine going to the clinic is

Given the fact you are so unsure, I feel going to see them and having a scan is a better option than taking pills at home hoping for the best. As traumatic as it is, what if in a few months it says pregnant again?!
