I’m fortunate to live a 15 minute drive from a big sandy beach.
Today was hot so after work I went straight to the beach to swim .( it was freezing )

I’m really sad about the experience.

The beach was full of out of control barking dogs, children literally screaming at the top of their voices for no reason ( yes, it’s a theme of mine ) , but the saddest thing of all was the place was strewn with litter.

Plastic bottles, empty crisp bags, discarded takeaways, fag ends, empty drink cans ....
There were loads of bins around . Not that you need a bin to not litter.

I’m genuinely upset by this. Is this considered ok now ? What can be done about it if anything ? I’m properly upset.

My son screams at the beach. Not continuously but the kid loves the beach. Most people laugh and say it's infectious how happy it makes him. I can't imagine someone being pissed about it. I do try to get him to quieten down a little, but honestly he can't help himself haha.

YANBU about the litter though.

NotJustACigar · 29/06/2021 20:31

Sounds like you just picked the wrong beach. Do a bit of research and find a quieter one nearby if you can. Also I prefer going early in the morning before work to avoid crowds and children- yesterday I walked on my local beach from 6-8am and it was bliss.

Tigertigertigertiger · 29/06/2021 20:31

I was jumped up on by 2 dogs in the space of 15 minutes. All around me people were calling their dogs while the dogs ignored them .

The children , yes , I reluctantly agree to a point but there were 2 small girls having a screaming contest a few hundred yards away that finally made me pack up and go.

For whoever suggested I pick up the litter , I do frequent litter pick ups in my own town but if I’d set about collecting litter from the beach today I’d still be there.

Why do people leave their litter behind in the first place ? Why should the council ( ie all the rest of us via our council tax ) pick up other people’s’ crap?

Youdoyoutoday · 29/06/2021 20:32

Litter is an absolute no no so I'm with you on that, however, children and dogs at the beach are given at this time of year so I think you're being a bit harsh there and I hate screaming kids and dogs

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/06/2021 20:33

Why should @Tigertigertigertiger have to pick up after dirty buggers who litter??

Lottielovescake · 29/06/2021 20:34

Ha!!! Go how very dare these children shriek and enjoy themselves on a public beach Confused The litter is gross though.

QueenBee52 · 29/06/2021 20:34

@ablutiions

My god what is wrong with these posters OP?

Of course it's shit that people are unnecessarily loud and inconsiderate with no regard for the environment.

I'm with you.

Take you Fucking litter hone. Why should we have to pay to clean up after them? Lazy bastards.

100% agree

people are truly scum..

they sit back and expect 'someone else' will be along to clear it up...

Shocking

Nanalisa60 · 29/06/2021 20:34

I just hate going to the beach and it being full of litter, so now if I’m going to any beach I take two black bags , as soon as I get there I clean up the beach around we’re I have set up, the second is to take home our own picnic stuff then any thing else that the other people have left. My family use to find it very embarrassing, my boys use to just hate it when they were little, but I just can’t relax and sit in the sun and read my book with rubbish around. I have had many a shouting match with people who just pack up there beach stuff and walk away leaving food wrappers and plastic bottles. But if we all took our own stuff away with us and some extra then the beaches and parks and woods would be so much cleaner. Always have a plastic bag for rubbish when walking the dog!!. I would like to say it’s because I have turned into a mad old woman but I also did this in my twenties, I just hate rubbish I find it so disrespectful to our country.

Comedycook · 29/06/2021 20:36

I agree with you about the litter.

I'm not a fan of dogs but I can't see why their presence would make you sad.

As for the children, poor things have been stuck inside for months on screens, surely you don't begrudge them a fun day at the beach?

DroopyClematis · 29/06/2021 20:37

@PumpkinKlNG

Well they do it round here, they organise litter picking groups and they go all over the area cleaning, rather than just sitting at home complaining about it...
That's not a solution though, is it? It's tantamount to saying " Don't worry about chucking your litter, someone else will deal with it." No one should be dropping their litter.
Nanalisa60 · 29/06/2021 20:38

I don’t care if kids are shouting it’s a beach they should be aloud to have fun and play and make noise, also I don’t care that there are dogs as long as there owners pick up there poo!!. But for the love of god take home your bloody rubbish with you, put it in your car and put it in your home bin!!

megletthesecond · 29/06/2021 20:41

People who are twats don't just start picking up their litter until its hits them in the face that they shouldn't. You can't ask scum like that to do it, they don't get it.
I litter pick every day and it does turn the tide.

Youdoyoutoday · 29/06/2021 20:41

Screaming contest?
Well then they and their parents should be shot, that's just crap!

Xmassprout · 29/06/2021 20:41

The only thing I disagree about is the children.

Is there a section of the beach that is a designated dog free zone? I live near a beach and it's got a specific section where dogs are allowed all year. Don't get me wrong, dogs shouldn't be jumping up at you. They should be under the owners control whether that means on a lead or excellent recall. Unfortunately, a lot of dog owners are inconsiderate, entitled assholes. And I say that as a dog owner

SmokeyDevil · 29/06/2021 20:42

Ah so lazy person number one has identified themselves. Too lazy to pick up your litter and put it in a bin, so just get others to do it for you. Hmm Your house must be pretty vile.
colincarrot · 29/06/2021 20:43

@LagunaBubbles

Is this uk.,because I was really cold today

You do realise the UK is quite a large landmass and not just where you stay? Hmm
I'm in Glasgow and it's been hot and an unbelievable 27 degrees today for example.

Yes that's why I asked Hmm
cupsofcoffee · 29/06/2021 20:44

I can't get worked up about noisy kids or dogs at all - surely the beach is the ideal place for them to run about, play and let off steam?

I'm a dog walker and was down on the beach today - lots of families/couples with dogs, a few children, a group of school children doing some kind of outdoor skills course and horses from the local riding school doing a beach ride. It was lovely to see so many people out and about and having fun!

The litter of course is disgusting and you're right to be angry about that, though.

WeirdArchitecture · 29/06/2021 20:44

Not a parent, but a beach without kids would be surprising, and I loved beaches as a kid, so I can't imagine resenting them having a riot there.

But fucking dogs.
I love dogs, essentially, but the UK has become a shit show of entitlement with them. WTF lent them such god like status? Everywhere I go it's dogs, endless barking and fucking dog shit everywhere. Twats.

PhillipPhillop · 29/06/2021 20:44

I wonder if the litter was still there the next day the culprits would plonk themselves down next to it or find a clean bit of beach? I think I know the answer actually...

WeirdArchitecture · 29/06/2021 20:46

And no I don't mean the average, decent dog walker.
We know who they are, and sadly it's class based.

(I know, kill me, I said a bad thing)

RogueMnerHidesUnderABigHat · 29/06/2021 20:50

You said a disgusting thing @WeirdArchitecture

Shame on you

YANBU about the litter though.

I think most people would be annoyed by a screaming child. Laughing okay, screaming unacceptable.

My kids are not allowed to scream. Screaming is for emergencies.

thefirstmrsrochester · 29/06/2021 20:52

Littering is selfish, disgusting and harmful to the environment, so with you on that.

Dogs, if it’s a beach where dogs are allowed then so long as they are not shitting all over the place and the owners not picking up after them, you can be annoyed but they are allowed.

Children are allowed to be noisy and scream last time I checked. It’s nice to see and hear children having fun after the shitter of a year and a half of covid.

ShitPoetryClub · 29/06/2021 20:53

I agree with you about the litter and to some extent about the dogs.
But Kids? Come on!! If they can't be noisy on a beach where can they be noisy?
Would you have them locked up forever?

SupermanInk · 29/06/2021 20:53

Kids and dogs make noise. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But the litter pisses me off. People just don’t care. Humans are ruining the planet, nothing new there. It’ll be too late before the masses change their ways.
