I mean come on

OP posts:
LadyCatStark · 29/06/2021 22:20

How can football fans be allowed to jump around and hug each other yet I’m not allowed to go out to work and support my vulnerable families. It’s a disgrace!

Classicbrunette · 29/06/2021 22:23

I agree. I was thinking the same. Only allowed 30 people in a private garden, and I can’t see a gp either !

AnneElliott · 29/06/2021 22:25

I get you op - I don't know why some posters are being so obtuse about it.

If it's safe enough to have massive crowd at the football then what's the justification for GPs not getting back to work as normal.

There's a thread on here berating an op for not wanting to go back to the office and to continue working from home. Loads of posters telling her that her employer is right and get back to the office. But GPs are somehow different and special and don't need to meet their customers needs?

Franklin12 · 29/06/2021 22:25

Those football scenes were a disgrace. Yet the next news story this evening was relating to 1 in 20 children isolating.

It’s shameful. That and Chris Whitby being pushed around by some scumbag yobs full of beer.

Arrierttyclock · 29/06/2021 22:26

Seems like everyday there's a new GP bashing thread. Getting boring now

Caneparrot · 29/06/2021 22:30

Yawn this has been done to death, OP join one of the other GP bashing threads if you’re that way inclined

AureliaStars · 29/06/2021 22:31

OH my God, do people not understand that the football was a trial - a trial for future events - a study.

We all already know that covid spreads through health settings so they've mitigated that by reducing face-to-face contact.

bigeyedfrog · 29/06/2021 22:37

I get where you're coming from OP. The government shouldn't allow GPs who are paid out the public sector purse to deny patients seeing them. Mine is sooo difficult to even get a phone app. But a few times now me (& other family members) have had to waste a huge amount of time where it's obvious I need to be seen but I have to wait several hours for a phone app. Then in pain come back the next day.

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 29/06/2021 22:40

It might be boring but it's the truth, yes there are a few lucky surgeries where the GPS are seeing patients but the way most are working, it's all phone/pictures/videos.

Yes it seems daft, that to actually have a face to face appointment you would have to take time off work etc but the point is you would actually see them, whereas with a phone appointment there's never usually a time frame, there are so many variables such as poor signal, no private space to talk.

My DH "missed" an appointment last week, his phone did not ring once, its just came up with a missed call, he's out on the road working so it's not always convenient for him to pick up a call even when he's expecting one, face to face would be so much easier as we would know where and when.

Also the connection to football may not be the best example but everyone gets the point that's being made.

Someone said to me the other day if Dr's are worried about catching things from patients etc then they are in the wrong job as surely its an occupational hazard!

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 29/06/2021 22:43

Also people I have spoken to have had to have a phone appointment only for the GP to then say they need to be seen face to face. Surely that's just wasting time as a simple face to face could have sorted it all out in one go!

ilovesooty · 29/06/2021 22:44

When I spoke to the receptionist the GP called me two hours later. I was offered a face to face appointment that afternoon which I couldn't take and was given one the next morning.

I've also been seen three times by a dentist, twice for routine check ups.

None of this is related to home fans attending football matches.

U2HasTheEdge · 29/06/2021 22:45

@Seesawmummadaw

‘ I need to take time off work to allow a phone call from the gp between 2-4pm, for example. I work in retail and can't answer phones’

But you would have to take time off for a face to face appointment too. Am I missing something?

OP was saying that phone appointments are not always more convenient.

Someone working in retail can't have their phone on them for two hours waiting for a call. If they have a proper time slot they can time a break at the time of their call, or let their manager know that they need to excuse themselves at a certain time. That is very different to having to take two hours off because you can't wait around for a phone call whilst working.

Phone appointments might me more convenient at times, but without a proper time slot they are a nightmare for many of us who work.

AureliaStars · 29/06/2021 22:48

All GPs are seeing patients face to face where necessary, it is not just a select few.

If a GP needs to see a patient face-to-face they will be given a f-to-f appointment.

NakedAttraction · 29/06/2021 22:57

@WhatsTheEffingPoint

Yes there will be some patients who then need to be seen face to face. But every GP I’ve heard talk about this says on balance it saves a huge amount of time because the vast majority of patients do not need to be seen face to face.
neverdidnt · 29/06/2021 23:02

I completely understand the move towards phone appointments. GP surgeries will have vulnerable patients inside who can’t have the vaccine/who the vaccine is likely to be ineffective for, and so it’s not safe to have waiting rooms packed full of people who could be managed over the phone. In my experience, it’s been much more convenient to have problems managed quickly over the phone rather than waiting weeks to be seen in person.

TheRosesOfSuccess · 29/06/2021 23:19

@ssd

Ive seen a gp too and i had to jump through hoops to do so.

Are people really just phoning their gps and getting an appointment to see them, like before??

I don't understand. Your OP says 'we can't see a GP' but then you say you've seen a GP.

And what's the football got to do with it Confused

TurquoiseDress · 29/06/2021 23:23

Yawn

0/10 effort

Try harder at a GP bashing opening post!

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 29/06/2021 23:46

Just want to say, our GPs are not offering a proper service either. My sister could only get a telephone appt in 2 weeks' time and our surgery also says they will call at any time during a 3-hour window on appt day. Very difficult if you are working. I work in various private practices and they have been back to seeing patients in person since the first lockdown finished.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 29/06/2021 23:48

My dentist has also been back in action for about a year.

TotorosCatBus · 30/06/2021 00:03

Clearly the Op means the football's back to normal but how come GPs aren't when the latter is more important ?

The wildly different services around the country are a major scandal and will be increasing the inequality in our health system. It gives a new meaning to postcode lottery

lardylegs123 · 30/06/2021 00:28

I agree, it's ludicrous.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 30/06/2021 00:36

why can't you see your GP?

in the last 2 weeks we had a trip to A&E, trip to walk-in centre and saw GP (3 different kids).
no problem at all.

zero connection to football in any way (well I missed a few games!!)

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 30/06/2021 00:38

also YABU to say "come on"

didn't you mean to say "IT'S COMING HOME!!!"
⚽️❤⚽️❤⚽️❤⚽️

IfNot · 30/06/2021 00:47

Fuck me, how literal do you have to be to not get what OP is saying? ! And I haven’t really read any “ GP bashing threads” . Is that a thing now? All I know is that the nurses at my practice commented that, while nurses have been working with patients throughout, doctors are hoping to keep phone appointments and triage on the phone forever..so while some people with limited imagination might think that’s just lovely and convenient, others might realise that, as the nurse pointed out, you need to be in a room with a patient to properly diagnose them, and why would you go into doctoring unless you actually wanted to help people?? We pay for the NHS. We have lost a year and a half of freedom to help preserve it! It’s a slap in the face to now be told we have no right to actual treatment! People shouldn’t be treated like annoyances for asking GPs to do what they are paid to do.

floatingboater · 30/06/2021 06:19

Yes if needed

Well that's the only time you should be seeing a GP. So many people waste doctor's time making appointments for stuff that's either easily sorted on the phone, or by a trip to the pharmacy. Ours has been running a phone triage system since way before covid.
