I'm seeing my gp in person tomorrow. And my daughter has a couple of times after the last few months.

LemonRoses · 29/06/2021 19:14

Well you should only have an appointment if needed. Most don’t need to be face to face and the timings are to maximise access for everyone, not individual convenience.
Assumedly if you had face to face, you would take the time to travel to the appointment, wait until called and then after the appointment travel home or back to work. Perhaps if you allocated yourself the same time slot, it wouldn’t be so inconvenient for you?
If I’m awaiting a call from a solicitor or need to be in for a delivery, I make arrangements to be available for that. It’s the same with GPs. You know the time slot so make sure you are somewhere private to take the call.

Doyoumind · 29/06/2021 19:16

Ffs. How many of these threads? Crowds at the football and not being able to see your GP are not connected.

WaltzingTilda · 29/06/2021 19:22

I agree with you GP. First I have to call the surgery at 8am (and its very difficult to get through to them ) , then they will put me on their call back list but don't tell us what time (or even a ball park) we can expect a call back. Then we have to wait for the gp to call us back at their convenience and make sure we are able to take the call wherever we are , if not they won't try calling you back again and you have to do this same dance the next day. If you get a call back whilst you are at the shops you wind up having to dicuss your medical issues in public. Frankly, GPS are using covid as an excuse now. If its okay for thousands of fans to attend football matches then GPS should be able to see patients for which thry are getting paid. Esp. if the rules are relaxed in July I can't see how they are going to be able to use covid as an excuse for much longer.

WaltzingTilda · 29/06/2021 19:24

BTW, we are not given any time slots at all.

WaltzingTilda · 29/06/2021 19:25

Sorry , meant to say I agree with you OP

Beetlebum1981 · 29/06/2021 19:25

I got a text from mine today saying they are stopping all face to face appointments again and reverting to telephone triage to decide whether they need to see you. Apparently to protect patients and staff 🙄

Garraty47 · 29/06/2021 19:26

But there isn't a connection between the two.

It's not the football fans fault you can't see a GP. They have to have day 2 and 5 covid tests to be there. They're not breaking any laws. They've been allowed to be there.

Tbh most of us have had at least the first jab now. I've followed the rules, I've wfh for 15 months. I've sat on my fecking sofa.

Now that a vast number of the population have been vaccinated I want to live again.

I'm going to the pub, sitting social distanced.

I've booked a holiday, which I'm now allowed to do.

The football fans have booked to go to a ticketed event that they're allowed to go to.

This is exactly my experience, it’s been raised numerous times with the practice manager, there’s no option to move to another surgery locally (although most are running in the same manner) and no end in sight for a more normal chance for a face to face consult.

I’m glad that there are GPs who are seeing patients in person but I assure you, that’s not happening universally so your “I’m alright Jack” attitude isn’t welcome to those of us who aren’t in the same position.

Or maybe it actually cuts out all the timewasters whi turn up taking up appointments and staying longer than necessary. Much easier on a phone or video appointment to stuck to alloted time.
WaltzingTilda · 29/06/2021 19:29

The connection between football and GPS in this thread is: if it is okay Covid-wise for thousands of football fans to go and see a football match live then it should be okay for GPS to see patients face to face.

WaltzingTilda · 29/06/2021 19:32

If that is the case , then they should say so..but whst they are saying is that they are doing this because of covid. Also, why do so many people have to waste their time waiting for a call (the call could be anytime during the day for us) just because of a few times wasters.

WaltzingTilda · 29/06/2021 19:33

time wasters*

@WaltzingTilda Well either we go to the same GP’s or there’s another one who does this because my GP is exactly the same. I have to take my phone to the toilet now in case they ring, with my luck it will be mid wee.
Flobbertybillop · 29/06/2021 19:35

I absolutely agree. It’s very stressful, particularly if you are very unwell. Gps should be open as normal by now, most places are.

LouLou198 · 29/06/2021 19:42

@Fairyliz exactly the same with our GP. I was ringing to try and get dd (5) an appointment. I was working from home and wouldn't be able to answer the phone for a couple of hours during the day. I asked them politely to ring before/after this time but that was not possible.

And yes op it is getting ridiculous now. Can't attend my DD's sports day but thousands of football fans can hug each other with no mask on.

ssd · 29/06/2021 19:58

I've nothing against the fans. Good on them having a great time. But appointments with a gp shouldn't be so difficult.

Can you not see that the two things are not related? UEFA don’t run your GP surgery.
ssd · 29/06/2021 20:04

Did i say they did Simon? I've read your posts here before, you don't usually play silly beggars.

If you agree that football has no relation to how your GP surgery runs, why make a thread complaining that its the fault of football that you can’t see your GP?

I’m a bit confused about being a beggar?

I'm at work wearing a mask yet my nhs appointments are all by telephone if available.

Lilypansy · 29/06/2021 20:23

Our GP surgery are now doing phone appointments, with photos uploaded where necessary. That's fine if it's a visible problem, but many conditions need a personal consultation. I think this is the way things will be in the future.

WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 29/06/2021 20:25

I agree
We can see the GP if you've completed a 10 page online form, ran around the block 3 times and shouted 3 alleluias

shinynewapple21 · 29/06/2021 20:35

I think that's down to your particular GP. I have heard that some GPS are still not seeing patients in person and that's absolutely appalling.

Football is a completely separate issue and to be honest, although it can feel a bit of a shock / worry seeing all those fans there, if we are to stop social distancing regs completely with the July review, then there needs to be some test events before this .
