(Lighthearted )

Another summer is upon us, and with it come the shorts, the flowing summer dresses, and the skirts. And, of course, the increased sale of shaving supplies.

It's also yet another summer where I'll be setting aside the razor blades and embracing the wild grasslands that are my legs. What started as a political statement when I was a teenager has now grown into an honest appreciation of my leg fluff. I love how soft it feels under my fingers, how it keeps me just that little bit warmer in winter. I love that I'm embracing a part of myself that's natural, a small way that my body tries to stay safe and cosy.

And, yes, part of me does enjoy surprising people when it's brought up in conversation Wink

So does anyone else have any quirks or natural parts of themselves that they've fallen in love with, even when it flies in the face of what's considered attractive?

My squishy tummy and stretch marks. I’ve always been skinny and had a flat stomach before dc. I loved cuddling my babies against my soft tummy and even now that they’re big tweens, I love my tummy cos they gave it to me.

lilmishap · 29/06/2021 19:18

I've been a scrawny bitch all my life, the type of skinny that means I was seen as a bitch by default. At 40 I have a 'ring' of blubber that includes my caesarian scar and muffin tops. It popped out real quick and is the only wobbly bit I have when I jump.
I fucking love it.

inmyslippers · 29/06/2021 19:18

Hip dips! Apparently these are a thing now

absolutehush · 29/06/2021 19:20

I have a lot of moles on my back. They look like a constellation of stars. My DD likes to 'join' them up when we're in bed. Her skin is flawless but I like that she appreciates that mine is not.

1FootInTheRave · 29/06/2021 19:23

My scars.

Laparotomy scar approx 11 inches long down my torso.

Large area of left leg due to bike accident abroad.

Forehead due to barbed wire.

Plus numerous little ones. They all tell my tales.

FindingMeno · 29/06/2021 19:23

Oh and I love my freckles!
I have no idea if freckles are in or out at the moment and I couldn't care less.

Tittyfilarious81 · 29/06/2021 19:23

The little gap between my front teeth I used to hate it when I was younger but I love it now Grin

WildOrchids67 · 29/06/2021 19:25

I have a really big mouth. Looks normal when it's closed, but I can open it really wide. It means I have a big smile too! I'm also very fond of my lips, they're a nice shape and I will never ever get fillers!

Pinuporc · 29/06/2021 19:27

I've got AA cup boobs and I really like my fried egg boobs. I really hated having having bigger boobs when I was pregnant and breastfeeding.
I also like my freckles
I've got chunky calves which I dont love but they are quite toned which makes them bearable!

Verbena87 · 29/06/2021 19:37

My thick eyebrows, my freckles, and my stumpy strong wrinkly little hands with hard skin and hacked short nails because I’m always in soil or ink or paint or pastry. They are not in the least pretty and they look like the capable tools they are. It makes me feel safe and as if I can trust myself when I look at them.

Also my hard feet for pottering barefoot in the garden.

And my wayward ungovernable hair.

And my long lean legs that are good for running.

Verbena87 · 29/06/2021 19:38

And my episiotomy scar that means whatever happens my son is written on my flesh until I’m food for the flowers.

Oldraver · 29/06/2021 19:39

My fat tummy with stretch marks. I love the feel of them and love running my fingers over them. So does OH

I was told I was weird for liking my stretch marks

user756432 · 29/06/2021 19:53

My neck scar where I had surgery to remove cancer. It reminds me of how strong I am and no matter what happens in life I will get through the tough times.

2andahalfpints · 29/06/2021 19:53

I love my grey hairs! I think they make me look wisdomful 😊 I'm proud of my stretch marks too

OrlandointheWilderness · 29/06/2021 19:54

My legs. After a lifetime of riding horses, then running, they are strong and muscly. I'm a size 16 and love every bit of it, after hitting a 24 at one point last year. It has left me with a slightly softer tummer and slightly saggier boobs but I couldn't care less. Everything still looks beautiful and I am proud of it all.

WheresTheLambSauce · 29/06/2021 19:59

Coming back to this thread and seeing all the PP talk about their scars and the stories behind them is bringing a few tears to my eyes Smile Thank you all so much for sharing, if there had been more people talking positively about themselves when I was a teenager then I think I would have had a far happier time.

I'm also growing to like my nose quite a bit. It's quite wide, but it suits my face well and I think it makes me look more friendly when I smile.

I love this thread.

I like my big nose - it makes me look like my Dad, who is a wonderful person.

Poppynit · 29/06/2021 20:10

My slightly imperfect teeth! Gives my face and smile a bit of character.

My sister has the most perfect Hollywood smile (veneers) and it looks stunning however, I’ve had braces and composite veneers in the past but I absolutely hated the way my mouth looked afterwards, it almost looked like I had too many teeth? I really hated my new, perfect smile… so I didn’t wear my retainer and had the composite removed. Huge waste of money!

HeadNorth · 29/06/2021 20:11

I have quite a pointy nose. When they were teenies, my lovely daughters said it was ‘witchy’. Yet I have always been perfectly happy with my nose- I have always thought it was a bit regal Grin

wingsandstrings · 29/06/2021 20:23

small boobs (still very perky despite me being in my 40s and having breastfed 2 kids into toddler-hood).
another one for very pale skin.
and I loved my big butt well before it became a 'thing' to love big butts (I was loyal to it throughout the 'heroin chic 90s.) To be fair a lot of people seemed to appreciate my butt, it was just fashion mags etc that didn't seem to see it as beauty ideal.

TheVolturi · 29/06/2021 20:29

My tummy was ruined by carrying my 3 huge babies (I am very small) im slim but my tummy is squishy. Despite it not looking very nice, part of me loves it, I know it sounds soppy but my body grew my children and I'm proud of it! Spent 7 years ttc before I finally got pregnant with my first, still have moments where I can't believe I am a mum.

wingsandstrings · 29/06/2021 20:31

oohhh, also being really hairy. It was the absolute bane of my life when I as younger, I was constantly removing unwanted hair: from my toes to my arms to my back. But now I can't be bothered to do much beyond the occasional leg shave . . . . and I am enjoying my luscious thick head of hair and my substantial brows at a time (peri-menopause) that in other people their hair is thinning.
I don't mind my little pot belly either. It never totally went back after pregnancy with no. 2, even though the rest of me is relatively slim. But it's quite cute and I caress it sometimes like there's still a baby in there!

Holly60 · 29/06/2021 20:35

I’m not skinny - big boobs and curvy all over and I’m very comfortable in my own skin. Love fashion and clothes and always feel amazing in a new outfit.
