(Lighthearted )

Another summer is upon us, and with it come the shorts, the flowing summer dresses, and the skirts. And, of course, the increased sale of shaving supplies.

It's also yet another summer where I'll be setting aside the razor blades and embracing the wild grasslands that are my legs. What started as a political statement when I was a teenager has now grown into an honest appreciation of my leg fluff. I love how soft it feels under my fingers, how it keeps me just that little bit warmer in winter. I love that I'm embracing a part of myself that's natural, a small way that my body tries to stay safe and cosy.

And, yes, part of me does enjoy surprising people when it's brought up in conversation Wink

So does anyone else have any quirks or natural parts of themselves that they've fallen in love with, even when it flies in the face of what's considered attractive?

OP posts:

One of my lateral incisors is set back, all the rest of my teeth are straight apart from this one rouge, I even had some teeth pulled when I was a kid to try and give it some space to move in properly but it never did.
I used to hate it but I've grown to love it.

What an amazing thread, has brought a small tear to my eye. I'm currently heavily pregnant and have loved my changing shape throughout, there are some parts I haven't loved as such but have been fascinated by, e.g. found out I have a small skin tag inside my bellybutton which wasn't visible until it flattened out with my bump. Hoping I can love having a squishy tummy afterwards.

LadySilence · 29/06/2021 16:46

Love this thread. I love my big ugly scar from a road accident as it shows I'm resilient and my body can heal itself

ZednotZee · 29/06/2021 16:50

I have prominent incisors and my teeth aren't gleaming porcelain white. I prefer them this way because I don't look perfect when I smile.

Nuffaluff · 29/06/2021 17:03

Brilliant thread OP and an antidote to some other threads that go on about Botox and the like as if everyone should do it.
I love everything about myself. My body works well, so I appreciate how lucky I am with that. I mostly love my feminine curves which wobble! I enjoy dressing in clothes that suit and flatter me.
I like (ish) my nose which isn’t small and is quite wide when I smile - it fits well with the rest of my face I think. So it’s okay.
I’m learning to love my 11s, because those are my concentration wrinkles. They are a reflection of how I love to think about things and learn new things. It is appropriate that I look older because I am older. An older woman is beautiful, just as an older man is handsome.

Youdiditanyway · 29/06/2021 17:12

My big bum. Men have always loved it, DH practically worships it and I’m quite delighted that big bums seem to be fashionable right now after years of being called lard arse at school Grin. I’m not fat everywhere, just have a sizeable bottom, hips and suppose my thighs too. I like my body shape finally, used to constantly berate myself but after seeing women paying to have my natural shape I feel slightly smug.

Also love my big eyebrows. I don’t have a monobrow or anything and they aren’t humongous but they’re a bit bigger than the average woman’s and I like them.

Hottesttrikeintown · 29/06/2021 17:16

I love my chin hairs. I stroke them when I think Grin also love plucking out a nice fat one!

I wax them every few weeks and miss them

Kindlethefourth · 29/06/2021 17:20

My patch of eczema on my left foot. Husband says I treat it like a pet. I don't have a pet. He is probably right.

Kindlethefourth · 29/06/2021 17:22

Also what I call 'The artist formerly known as a basal cell carcinoma'. Was told it was a BCC. It wasn't. Reminds me that I am a very lucky blue skinned freckly ginger.

Doublestar · 29/06/2021 17:23

I too quite like my prominent incisors and one slightly wonky front tooth. I always remember reading an interview with male models in the 90's and one of them saying he fancied Paula Yates but preferred her before she got her teeth fixed. It always stuck with me - I think quirks like this can be very attractive and I really don't like the look of obvious veneers (which my dentist tried to sell to me when I went to have a filling replacedAngry )

Also I really admire those of you who embrace your hairy legs etc - I'm not quite that brave but dd15 recently went out in a sleeveless top and didn't bother to shave her armpits and I felt really proud of her!

ghostyslovesheets · 29/06/2021 17:23

oh yes - natural big eyebrows

also I am 51 with hair down to my mid back (and I wear skinny jeans) - I should be locked up!

Gertie75 · 29/06/2021 17:23

My belly rolls when I sit down, I lie in bed on my side with my knees up so I can squidge them, I also like my crows feet that have appeared over the last couple of years.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 29/06/2021 17:26

I like my white hair wings. My hair is pretty much black so the contrast is stark. I look like Lily Munster and I like it!

Aozora13 · 29/06/2021 17:27

I have dark hair and have been getting greys here and there. Kept thinking I should dye it but then a group of greys joined together to form a cool silver streak so I decided to stay au naturel.

I also weirdly like my stretch marks - after 2 DC and another on the way I wear them as a badge of pride.

Laceandflowers383 · 29/06/2021 17:28

I love having a full bush. I keep it short in the summer but let it grow out full length in the winter, its fabulous! I also enjoy being short. I'm 5ft2, I used to hate it and wear heels all the time but not anymore.

SinkGirl · 29/06/2021 17:28

I have a giant fuck off scar around my arm that I used to hate and hide. Now I think it’s pretty tough 😂

Deadringer · 29/06/2021 17:31

I love my freckles, they only really come up in the summer and make me feel sun kissed and healthy. I love my slightly crooked teeth too.

StiffyByng · 29/06/2021 17:33

I quite like the wrinkles round my eyes. I think they look friendly. I miss my freckles, because I grew out of them. I'm not enough of a fan of much of the rest of my body though. I do now appreciate my curls, after years of frizz, and will be interested to see what they're like when I go grey.

Twattergy · 29/06/2021 17:39

Love this thread! I always liked my quite big eyebrows even when it was not at all fashionable in late 80s/90s. Never plucked them even when uni pals had tiny thin pencilled lashes. Now I'm smug as I have brows and they don't!

Girlwhowearsglasses · 29/06/2021 17:41

Lovely thread!

I have a scar of three dots on my knee that's faded almost away - it's the only physical evidence of meningococcal septicaemia at age 20 that nearly killed me. I think it's good to remember these things. Maybe I'll get it tattooed if it fades any more.

SinkGirl · 29/06/2021 17:46

Same! Never plucked my eyebrows and it’s finally paid off ;)
HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 29/06/2021 18:16

I have stretch marks on my inner thigh I quite like stroking.

Ooh yes! I have an especially wide one and I often stroke it because the skin is sooo smooth. (Now it sounds like some weird fetish)

Haha this is me too! Finally in fashion 😆
Dutch1e · 29/06/2021 18:25

I like my soft wrinkly neck. I know I'm supposed to want it all taut and smooth like it was 20 years ago but the folds feel so nice to play with.

And yes to the eyebrows! Not even the raving 90s could kill those

Annabellerina · 29/06/2021 18:26

These are really good! I'm currently loving my big bush of pubes, frizzy hair, goofy teeth, moles on my belly, and my temper!
