(Lighthearted )

Another summer is upon us, and with it come the shorts, the flowing summer dresses, and the skirts. And, of course, the increased sale of shaving supplies.

It's also yet another summer where I'll be setting aside the razor blades and embracing the wild grasslands that are my legs. What started as a political statement when I was a teenager has now grown into an honest appreciation of my leg fluff. I love how soft it feels under my fingers, how it keeps me just that little bit warmer in winter. I love that I'm embracing a part of myself that's natural, a small way that my body tries to stay safe and cosy.

And, yes, part of me does enjoy surprising people when it's brought up in conversation Wink

So does anyone else have any quirks or natural parts of themselves that they've fallen in love with, even when it flies in the face of what's considered attractive?

I'm glad to hear my hairy toes indicate good circulation, I'll remember that! I thought of more: I'm 5 foot tall and have always loved being short, I've got lots scars and I got the large ones as a child so the childish excitement of having an interesting scar to show people has never worn off, so I've always seen them in a positive light. Also since wearing a mask I've realized how much I love the wrinkles around my eyes because they make it much easier to show that I'm smiling. Great thread, I often read threads and think oh no I didn't realise I should have been exfoliating my elbows or something so it's great to read a thread and think, oh yeah I like that about myself too!

Melanin skin and natural Afro hair- that’s not the standard of beauty in the UK

Confused0904 · 29/06/2021 18:39

I should say my melanin skin and natural hair

OlympicProcrastinator · 29/06/2021 18:40

My ageing face. I had a hard ‘bitch face’ look when I was young and considered by others to be more beautiful. My face has softened over the years and I look ‘mumsy’ and ‘warm’ in my photos now. My DH tells me I get better each year and I choose to believe his sweet little lies because when I look in the mirror, it’s objectively true to me.

Cocolapew · 29/06/2021 18:46

My grey hair. I stopped dyeing it just over 2 years ago and its a lovely mixture of white and silver.

granhands1 · 29/06/2021 18:49

My muscular feet and tiny boobs

riotlady · 29/06/2021 18:52

I’m not wild about how it looks but I love how my squishy post c section tummy feels. Sometimes I hold it when I’m going to sleep xD

OunceOfFlounce · 29/06/2021 18:52

Great thread. Wish I had something to contribute but you all are helping me work on it x

Piglet89 · 29/06/2021 18:57

My grey/salt and pepper hair. Cut it short after I had my son (it was so long before then!) and I haven’t looked back.

Seymour5 · 29/06/2021 18:58

My white hair. As my already pale skin fades a bit more with age, I love how it looks. Anything darker would make me look ill.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 29/06/2021 19:02

My hair. Have never coloured it and now love the silver strands that are appearing.

Also pale skinned and don't use fake tan as I like my natural colour.

I want hobbit toes!

Mumski45 · 29/06/2021 19:02

My chunky thighs which have powered me along many long bike rides.

Inthesameboatatmo · 29/06/2021 19:03

Just remembered something else.
The scar on my throat from being on life support.
It's big, its raised and I don't care, because it reminds me every day that i fought hard to be alive .

EmpressSuiko · 29/06/2021 19:03

Absolutely nothing unfortunately!

LubaLuca · 29/06/2021 19:03

My wide feet. They look like toddler feet and are inelegant, but I think they're lovely Grin

CatBumJuice · 29/06/2021 19:09

I've got a big nose, which used to upset me terribly when I was younger. Now my face has grown round it a bit and I think it looks noble.

FlyingPandas · 29/06/2021 19:11

Small boobs. I’m an A cup on a good day. Used to hate it.

Then had my DC, and breastfed each of them, and experienced temporarily bigger boobs each time, and God did I loathe them! I looked awful with bigger boobs. Felt so buxom and revolting, despite enjoying BF.

Now I absolutely love my small boobs and feel sorry for anyone who is better ‘endowed’. I feel so much slimmer and more feminine in my A cup state!

@MissGendered

My wrinkles Smile

My dm passed away from cancer at 33 when I was 4. I have a 4 year old daughter now and just can't imagine the pain dm went through knowing she wouldn't see me grow up. I'll take every wrinkle, grey hair, jowel and sag going if it means I get another year with my dc.

That made me tear up a bit! My DM also passed away when I was a child, what you said has made me embrace my wrinkles and mum tum, and feel grateful that I get to see my children grow up Smile thank you
Heneage · 29/06/2021 19:12

My hairy armpits. They rock. Legs get a summer pruning but that's to aid tanning as the little hairs if left on cast a nasty shadow!

HarrisMcCoo · 29/06/2021 19:12

Grey hair, in my late thirties. No, I am not dying it. I have been through a lot in the last few years, so have earned these greys!

FindingMeno · 29/06/2021 19:12

My scars, which just tell stories imo.
And I don't have a nose that I am told I should like, but I love it. It's characterful.

SadSongsAndWaltzes · 29/06/2021 19:13

What a great thread!
I love my underarm hair. I stopped shaving a while ago and genuinely think it looks lovely.
I also have very big, long feet - size 7/8. I hated them as a child but now quite like them - they let me move around and I'm harder to push over 😂

HarrisMcCoo · 29/06/2021 19:13

Great thread, btw.

Ohmygodyesthatsit · 29/06/2021 19:13

I have a scar on my forehead, got it when i was 11 and was run over, by a lorry. I loved it immediately, it said look at me, I have had something happen to me. Still love it, it gives me character.

Heneage · 29/06/2021 19:14

And yes as a PP said - toddler feet. So lovely and friendly to look at and squidge
