To feel very suspicious of her?

Suspicious122 · 28/06/2021 21:42

My friend is a dietician for the NHS.
I have been undergoing some treatment at a different hospital than hers. My issue is she seems to know details which she really shouldn't know especially as my issue is nothing to do with her area of knowledge. I am starting to think she has looked at my file. Aibu to ask if this is possible?

Yes it’s possible if the hospitals are part of the same Trust. When electronic records are accessed, a permanent record of who has accessed them is kept. If your friend was found to have been looking at your record she would probably lose her job.

Suspicious122 · 28/06/2021 21:52

Do you mean the same hospital?
Could she look but get away with it? I honestly think she has looked.

cherrybonbons · 28/06/2021 21:54

Yes.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 28/06/2021 21:58

Not necessarily the same hospital, trusts cover a few different sites. So if the hospital she is at is part of the same trust then, yes in theory she has access to look at your file.
Gross misconduct...

Suspicious122 · 28/06/2021 22:01

Could she legitimately get away with this by feigning ignorance?

OP posts:
Catipepo · 28/06/2021 22:02

If it's an electronic record then they should be able to do an audit trail on her account

BrilliantBetty · 28/06/2021 22:03

What ignorance?
Your issue is not her area, you've never met / spoken to her in a medical situation. There is zero reason for her to have looked at your records. None at all.

Suspicious122 · 28/06/2021 22:03

What about other records that she could access? Could she do it in a way that she may not be recognised?

OP posts:
paradyning · 28/06/2021 22:04

She wouldn't be able to feign ignorance. She'd be fucked if she's looked.
It would have to be the same Trust though to be possible (if you're in England?)

Suspicious122 · 28/06/2021 22:04

Maybe she would say that she was just trying to help a friend or something. I am 99% sure she has looked.

My sister works in the local hospital and knows someone who was fired for looking at their own records to check if an appointment was booked or test results. It’s pretty much instant dismal looking at your own let alone anyone else’s

Suspicious122 · 28/06/2021 22:05

I am in England, yes.
Freaked me out as seen a post on here where someone who worked at a hospital was talking about how they could view anyones record and was looking all their friends and family up.

That wouldn't wash at all. Why do you think she would do this? To be malicious?
mnahmnah · 28/06/2021 22:07

She definitely couldn’t have got this information from somewhere or someone else? I.e your partner, family member etc who may have mentioned things?

Chloemol · 28/06/2021 22:08

As far as I am aware all electronic systems will tag to a user ID so there is an audit trail on who has looked at the data

If you are concerned raise the matter with your hospital and get them to check the records to see who has had access, when a s for what reason

BumCat · 28/06/2021 22:09

It’s possible. If you report it and they find she has committed a GDPR breach, she will be in very serious trouble. And she won’t be able to get out of it by feigning ignorance.

GreenClock · 28/06/2021 22:10

She will have left an electronic footprint on your record. If discovered, she’ll be sacked for gross misconduct. You should complain.

RunnerDown · 28/06/2021 22:16

There would be an audit trail. If she has looked at any records which are not related to patients she is involved with she would immediately lose her job. There would be no excuses. Would she have taken that risk.

SmokeyDevil · 28/06/2021 22:19

Complain and get it audited. It will have an audit trail, all systems do. They can tell who has accessed files and at what time.

If she's looked, it's her own fault. She shouldn't have been so bloody stupid. You don't look at anyone's files unless they are your patients.

DrManhattan · 28/06/2021 22:19

Could your friend have found out this information another way?

Tistheseason17 · 28/06/2021 22:21

Yes, she can look at your record if she is employed by the same Trust/service with shared IT solutions. And, yes - they can check your record to see who has accessed it - and yes she will be fired. First thing I tell my team - absolutely no excuse for it.

Skeetablue · 28/06/2021 22:24

Is there any chance she has pieced info together from the info you have provided or maybe you have forgotten you mentioned anything ? What sort of into is it? Eh exact symptoms, meds, treatment or general info that could be assumed if she knows you have the condition?

SwimmingOnEggshells · 28/06/2021 22:24

I know there is no excuse but do you want your friend fired? I would raise it with her before pursuing official channels.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 28/06/2021 22:25

Suspicious122 · 28/06/2021 22:27

Yes I do want her fired if she has looked at my records.
No chance she has found it out from anyone else. I have not shared it with anyone but DP and he has not even met her yet. None of us have shared on social media about it either.
