I just heard a phone buzz.

I am alone in my room, scrolling Mumsnet. I just heard a buzz like a notification but I was on my phone and it wasn't mine. Then it happened again very soon after. Couldn't be mine.

Neither of my DC have phones, too young. The older has an ipad, in her room across the hall. It couldn't have been that because it's off - she forgets to charge it.

DH is downstairs, his phone is charging in the kitchen, I walked past it 10 mins ago.

Am I so addicted to my phone that I am hearing notification vibrations?! Or should I be looking for some miscellaneous phone in this roomConfused

I hear neighbour's phone when it's on their kitchen worktop but nowhere else, some bit of acoustic trickery.

Youdoyoutoday · 26/06/2021 17:03

Ita usually the kid's tablets when that happens here

MolG5276bvfg · 26/06/2021 17:16

Do you have a watch with a pedometer and a get up and move about alarm. Took me ages to work out what that buzz was, even more so when it was in a drawer.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 26/06/2021 17:23

we have a ghost cat that DD and I both hear but there is no cat

QueeniesCroft · 26/06/2021 17:27

My neighbour has a cow which makes a sound exactly like a vibrating phone. It drove me mad for weeks until I worked out what it was!

ittakes2 · 26/06/2021 17:38

its likely your husband's buzzing on the floor below. I once pulled the lounge apart for a buzzing phone only to discover it was my phone in the room above the lounge.

rjacksmiss · 26/06/2021 17:42

Open up your wifi settings and see what's connected..

🤣🤣 now there is a sentence I never thought I would read and probably never will again. Amazing Grin

motherofawhirlwind · 26/06/2021 17:46

@mistressofthedarkside in scenario 1, does he listen to podcasts at bedtime? I rang my mum a couple of times by lying on the microphone button on the wire in my sleep and it redials the last number you've called.

Changemaname1 · 26/06/2021 17:46

Bold fail 🙃

I had a terrible fright a few years ago when ds2 lived at home. He is profoundly deaf and has a vibrating alarm clock. When he had gone back to school I stripped his bed to wash everything. That night I sat downstairs and heard a vibrating noise upstairs. I did initially wonder if I had a Poltergeist. I rushed upstairs to find the vibrating part of the alarm clock dancing around on ds's bedside table!

Mamanyt · 26/06/2021 18:10

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

poltergeist
And THAT will be the name of my next cat! Whenever I hear random odd noises, I check to see what Hek is into now.

As for the phone, mine will occasionally make random noises and I'll go nuts trying to find out what the alert was for!

MrsRussell · 26/06/2021 18:39

We have bloody jackdaws in the chimney over the lane that can now mimic phones.
There's one that does my landline ringer to a tee, and his mate does the old Trimphone ring.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 26/06/2021 19:53

I hope this isn't true in your case, but XH had extra phones. There wasn't a good reason for them. You haven't returned, but I hope you have got to the bottom of it.

isthismylifenow · 26/06/2021 20:27

Huawei phones can be arseholes about this.

Mine pings for no reason all the time.

So bloody demanding. Worse than a husband.

Everydayisawindingroad · 26/06/2021 20:28

@MarkRuffaloCrumble

I know it’s a leap but could your DH have another phone in his drawer or gym bag etc? Any reason to be suspicious of him?
Sadly this was my first thought
BrilliantBetty · 26/06/2021 21:00

Thanks all. I have tried to put my phone down today, incase it is due to over using my phone (quite possible). I also work out of the bedroom as there's no other room to use. So I think my brain must be playing tricks.

Not suspicious of DH particularly but have learnt from MN that no marriage is 100% secure. I haven't gone looking for a secret device. Will do if I hear the noise again though.

On a slightly different tangent, I quite often think I hear thunder, and it turns out to be a lorry... Blush

Always disappointed too, as I LOVE thunderstorms! ⛈️⚡

@PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears

Or a wheelie bin. I always mistake them for thunder.

LOL! Grin I sometimes mistake a wheelie bin being dragged/rolled along the path or concrete, for thunder too!

Aren't wheelie bins bloody NOISY when they're empty, considering they are fairly small and light? Compared to a 40 ton loaded articulated lorry anyway!

Unicorn1976 · 27/06/2021 17:28

@TheQueef me too 😂

bmteal · 27/06/2021 17:29

Could it be your smoke alarm buzzing because the batteries are going.?

A sentence that I've never forgotten:

It was such a strange thing for a goat to have done. Particularly as Bill is so fond of Beethoven.

mam0918 · 27/06/2021 17:56

I sometime hear a phone buzzing, pretty sure its my DS in his bedroom drawer which is upstairs but I still hear it in the living room.

I have this as a shortcut on my phone

www.lightningmaps.org

Solves that one very quickly.

Angel2702 · 27/06/2021 17:58

Could be a watch, headphones that need charging? Anything like that.

I often feel my phone vibrate in my pocket and then realise I don’t have my phone.
