I just heard a phone buzz.

I am alone in my room, scrolling Mumsnet. I just heard a buzz like a notification but I was on my phone and it wasn't mine. Then it happened again very soon after. Couldn't be mine.

Neither of my DC have phones, too young. The older has an ipad, in her room across the hall. It couldn't have been that because it's off - she forgets to charge it.

DH is downstairs, his phone is charging in the kitchen, I walked past it 10 mins ago.

Am I so addicted to my phone that I am hearing notification vibrations?! Or should I be looking for some miscellaneous phone in this roomConfused

My phone is linked to my watch, any time I walk out of range it sends a notification, took me a while to work that out, I kept checking emails etc trying to work out what the notification was 🤣
I even feel my phone vibrate in my pocket when it hasn’t.
This is a real thing
phantom ringing syndrome & phantom vibration syndrome

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_vibration_syndrome
Most annoyingly I can feel my phone vibrate when it's in my pocket but it hasnt, but when the fucking thing rings with a really loud ringtone and the most vibrate I can have it at I neither hear it nor feel it.

So 10 minutes later I grab my phone and I've missed two calls andv7 texts. Maddening.

@Newmum0331

Turn on your blue tooth and see what phone options come up to connect to
All my children have phones but when I switch on my bluetooth the only thing that comes up is my headphones, I've never been suggested to connect to any of their phones - is mine not working properly?
CheesecakeAddict · 26/06/2021 13:59

Have you checked the wardrobe for murderers?

MrsBunHat · 26/06/2021 14:07

I hear my phone’s alarm ringing when it isn’t. I have to change the sound on it regularly - once it’s had the same sound for a while, my brain starts turning other sounds into that sound.

ArnoldJudasRimmer · 26/06/2021 14:09

I've heard a phone vibrating a few times, sometimes I've completely imagined it and other times the character on TV will answer the phone as I'm checking mine and telling my partner it must be him getting a call. 🤦‍♀️

Come on OP update please.

ihtwsf · 26/06/2021 14:29

Are you married to Matt Hancock?

HangingOver · 26/06/2021 14:31

I hear upstairs phone vibrate all the time.

funinthesun19 · 26/06/2021 14:39

My son’s FitBit kept vibrating when it was low on battery. Anyone in the house got one of those?

MistressoftheDarkSide · 26/06/2021 14:42

Other phone weirdness happened to me recently.....

After midnight the other night a friend phoned me. I answered. Nothing but random crackling and rustling and no reply to my "Hello.... Hello..." . Assumed it was a pocket dial so hung up. Two minutes later exactly the same happened. DP is also a friend of this person so he rang him from his phone. Friend doesn't answer but messages a couple of minutes later to say he'd been asleep and were we ok. Was very surprised that he'd apparently rung me twice and no reason to assume he was playing silly buggers - we're all in our 50s and not prone to pranks.

Second one - elderly friend tries to ring me. Call fails to come through about three times - he cant hear me, I hang up, try to ring him, line busy etc etc. Finally make contact. During the call the alert of another call coming in comes through - I think it might be DP who us out, so wind up the call at an opportune moment and check. It was logged as my elderly friend's landline number trying to call me while we were having our conversation between my mobile and his landline. And it's logged as three times of trying. Absolutely baffled by that one.

Nothing since then....very odd!

Did the phantom phone get found / resolved? Smile

psychomath · 26/06/2021 14:46

I used to live along the route of an ice cream van that drove by daily. I'll take phantom phone vibrations over phantom Teddy Bears' Picnic any day!

LadyCatStark · 26/06/2021 14:47

When we used to live in a semi detached house I could sometimes hear my neighbours’ phones or it could be your DH’s vibrating on the counter as sound can sometimes travel in weird ways!

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 26/06/2021 14:51

We have this! All the time! So loud that it's in the room with us. We've tossed every cupboard, drawers, checked everything in the house that is capable of making any kind of sound. Nothing. No idea whatsoever.

Oblomov21 · 26/06/2021 15:12

This would drive me nuts. I'd have to search until I found it. I have very sensitive hearing and can always hear a text beep even though Dh and ds's don't hear it.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 26/06/2021 15:14

@FlaminEckVera

On a slightly different tangent, I quite often think I hear thunder, and it turns out to be a lorry... Blush

Always disappointed too, as I LOVE thunderstorms! ⛈️⚡

Or a wheelie bin. I always mistake them for thunder.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 26/06/2021 15:14

AirTag or some other tile tracker?

Hollywolly1 · 26/06/2021 15:23

Could there be somebody living in your attic? Or a basement if you have one.
Maybe I look at 2 many filmsHmm

Lotsolove · 26/06/2021 15:49

Just leave it. Unless you have another phone you have forgotten about I doubt the message is for you or any of your concern.

SallyCinnabon · 26/06/2021 15:53

OP this happened to me the other day, honestly. In my WFH ‘office’ on the middle floor, hear a vibration like a phone on a surface has had a notification coming from upstairs, then again, go upstairs to check mobile phone, nothing. DP was out with his phone. No other phones in the house. Really odd. I thought it could be my neighbours but we never hear anything else from them.

1forAll74 · 26/06/2021 16:10

I have had quite a few bees in my room this week, and also I have tinnitus quite badly,so always some buzzing somewhere here.

mellicauli · 26/06/2021 16:14

I had this today and turned out my son's clock radio alarm was going upstairs

willowmelangell · 26/06/2021 16:27

Sometimes I find myself reaching for my phone and then my brain kicks in and I realise I just heard a 'bing' 'ding' 'brrrr' on some tv show.
Is there a tv on in the background?
