I just heard a phone buzz.

I am alone in my room, scrolling Mumsnet. I just heard a buzz like a notification but I was on my phone and it wasn't mine. Then it happened again very soon after. Couldn't be mine.

Neither of my DC have phones, too young. The older has an ipad, in her room across the hall. It couldn't have been that because it's off - she forgets to charge it.

DH is downstairs, his phone is charging in the kitchen, I walked past it 10 mins ago.

Am I so addicted to my phone that I am hearing notification vibrations?! Or should I be looking for some miscellaneous phone in this roomConfused

My phone does this sometimes. It is huawi. I think it is notifications.

33feethighandrising · 26/06/2021 12:32

I had this!

It was a ping like my notifications, rather than a buzz though. Drive me mad trying to find it, as I was sure there was no devices in the room I was hearing it in.

It turned out it was that the desk I was sitting at had been moved slightly, so it was now touching the small metal filing cabinet next to it, and when I was jogging the desk, the cabinet was squeaking, but a muffled squeak at exactly the same pitch as my phone notification, and so my brain was interpreting it as a ping.

Once I worked this out, it was clearly a squeak not a ping, Strange the tricks our brains play!

So, I'd think wider than devices!

Think about where you are when you hear it, if it happens again.

Maybe batteries running low on a vibrator causing it to cry out for help?

Mine is Huawei too. Maybe ghost notifications are a Huawei thing.

It's a sex robot

My watch buzzes sometimes, even if it's not linked to my phone at the time - does anyone have a SmartWatch or FitBit type thing?

Wobblywibblywoo · 26/06/2021 12:46

I can hear my neighbours phone vibrate through the wall, I guess they have it on a table or shelf next to the adjoining wall, the first time I thought there was a phone in my sofa somewhere lol

Hellocatshome · 26/06/2021 12:48

Probably your husbands phone. I can hear the notification buzz of any phone in this house no matter how far away from it I am which is odd because I'm partially deaf, I think it must be the right pitch or whatever it is for me to hear.

Yep, same here. If the phone is on a hard surface it can be heard anywhere else in the house (and it’s got quite a big footprint, so it can be miles away, not just in the room below)
Iluvfriends · 26/06/2021 12:56

I moved into a brand new house and have this now and again, even when i'm home alone, like a phone on vibrate. Had convinced myself a workman had left his phone in the loft or someone was living up there Shock
I actually think it's something to do with the water tank or the solar panels.

Phantom phone syndrome

I get it all the time

category12 · 26/06/2021 12:57

It might be you can hear his phone from further away than you expect - I can hear mine from different rooms. Or sometimes mine makes noises and it's not a new notification, I don't know, it's like an impatient child trying to get my attention for no reason.

Or does he have a work phone?

Check your router for what devices are linked to it if you're worried.

Have you any other reason for your mind to be jumping to DH being up to something?

SkiingIsHeaven · 26/06/2021 13:00

Has your DH got a weasel phone?

Try to airdrop something and phones in your vicinity will show up on your phone.

Miiaaoow · 26/06/2021 13:00

I often hear a faint phone like buzz in my (home) office. I'm pretty sure it's from the pipes.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 26/06/2021 13:00

are you sure it wasn't a fly ffs 🙄😂

Yes because the buzz of a fly is oh-so similar to the vibrating buzz of a phone.

I'm always getting them mixed up.
Whenever there is a fly in my house I'm constantly asking who's phone is ringing.

Not.

Luckyelephant1 · 26/06/2021 13:02

Your DH is obviously the next Walter White.

LeonoraFlorence · 26/06/2021 13:03

My DDs Fitbits do this.

TooTiredForToday · 26/06/2021 13:09

I have this too. After a lot of fruitless searching I think it is the neighbour through the wall. It's just strange as we hear nothing else from them but I wonder if somehow the vibrations carry.

Alviona · 26/06/2021 13:15

Probably the iPad telling you it needs charging.

LindaEllen · 26/06/2021 13:18

We can hear next door's phone buzz. All day and all night 😂

CaptainBarbossa · 26/06/2021 13:22

Phantom vibration syndrome, it's caused by over use of mobile phones on the vibrate setting, it has an effect on your CNS whereby you picks up signals that are not a phone and your brain thinks it is a phone vibrating. These could be auditory signals, like a bee buzzing, or physical sensations like a muscle contacting.

Diwoo · 26/06/2021 13:24

@Bingbongbooo

I always here them shouting mum or crying when I'm in the shower. Except they're not!
I often think I hear the (house?) phone ringing when I'm in the shower or have the vacuum cleaner on. I sometimes get woken up in the middle of night by the smell of (no-one) cooking too.
ButItRingsAndIRise · 26/06/2021 13:26

I even feel my phone vibrate in my pocket when it hasn’t.
This is a real thing

@Newmum0331

Turn on your blue tooth and see what phone options come up to connect to
All that comes up for me are our cars and presumably my neighbours TV - we are detached.
