Op you need to remember most of the people on MN are snobs!!

Of course you serves cold pizza/nuggets/whatever at a childrens party

MummyJ12 · 26/06/2021 09:29

With a cold buffet, you have a four hour window of time before the food has to be eaten or thrown away. However, I wouldn’t imagine that you would want to serve chicken nuggets cold? This time includes cooling and preparation and absolutely doesn’t allow for the food to be put away for leftovers after it’s been out for that amount of time. You also have to be careful of the ambient temperature.

GiantToadstool · 26/06/2021 09:30

Not a snob and not rich. Don't live in a rich area (and why would "poor people" serve their food cold!? Why would it make a differencd!?)

Just never had cold chicken nuggets and wouldn't serve them cold! Not hard to heat them up!

EmeraldShamrock · 26/06/2021 09:30

Imagine the rich folk on here being served cold finger food oh the horror, ffs!
Well I'm poor and wc as are my family and friends.
We always serve warmer food at parties for DC.
I go by the play centre.
If the party was in a play centre they'd serve warm food and it would be expected.

WaitroseAldi · 26/06/2021 09:31

Has no one watched motherland on here lol

I know ye Hmm ridiculous assumption.

GinLimeandLemonade · 26/06/2021 09:33

Cold chicken dippers have always been a thing at kids parties in my experience. Along with cold pizza, cold samosas, cold sausage rolls. And then usual cold fare like crisps, sandwiches and a cheese, pickled onion and pineapple hedgehog 😄

"Poor kids" indeed 😂

MrsMcTats · 26/06/2021 09:35

A cold kids buffet is obviously fine, but I would expect that to be things like cocktail sausages, sandwiches, crisps, crudités etc. Food like nuggets and pizza I'd always serve warm because it tastes much better. Why wouldn't you want the food to taste as nice as possible?

GiantToadstool · 26/06/2021 09:36

You need a poll 😆. Maybe its a regional thing?

I'd be surprised to eat a cold one! Although maybe not now after this thread...

BarbaraofSeville · 26/06/2021 09:38

But just because the food is often served cold, doesn't mean it's actually very nice served that way.

I'm not rich or a snob, I just want food to be as nice as possible when I eat it. Which to me means hot, or at least warm. Food that is supposed to be hot served cold, especially straight out of the fridge is really quite unpleasant.

MummyJ12 · 26/06/2021 09:38

Each to their own for sure, I have much weirder food choices sometimes! Just wanted to give the advice on food safety. No judging from me Smile

@ChipsAndKetchup

Who eats cold nuggets?! Confused
Loads of people, especially when it's a party
Strikethrough · 26/06/2021 09:41

A cold buffet at a children's party is completely normal, including things like pizza, chicken nuggets, sausages rolls, cocktail sausages, quiche (and alongside things like sandwiches, veg sticks, crisps etc.).

Can you get hold of an Iceland prawn ring at short notice, OP? Wink

...if you go to the refrigerated party/snack/picnic section in a supermarket. You'll find cold chicken nuggets/strips/bites.... It's the same thing.
IWishForUnicorns · 26/06/2021 09:44

It's fine to do cold dippers, my DD went to a party for her cousins recently and my aunt and uncle did cold nuggets, they were the only food without any left overs at the end of the party.

I'd cook them now and then turn the oven off without opening, take out of the oven just before serving so they should stay reasonably warm.

SeaSweet · 26/06/2021 09:46

Cold nuggets absolutely fine. Kids won't care!

If you do this then please don’t cook them now! Did you not read my advice up thread?! For a party at 11:45, cook them just before your guests arrive. If you keep them in the oven to stay warm, you still need to stick to the 2 hour rule so throw them at say 1:30 if they finished cooking at 11:30. Most children’s parties are only 2 hours long anyway…

@MummyJ12 fair enough, I'd cook about 12 then for serving at 12.30-1pm

JellyTumble · 26/06/2021 09:56

@WaitroseAldi

As if I’m lazy because I have a hundred and one things to do today lol. Poor kids, I should go and buy a sushi platter from waitrose instead.
Nobody’s saying that, calm down.

Chicken nuggets are excellent kids party food - but they should be hot and freshly cooked or at the very least warm.

It is lazy to serve cold nuggets because you wanted to get it done hours in advance rather than just quickly bunging it in the oven when they’re here.

It takes two minutes.

MrsFlinch · 26/06/2021 09:57

I’ve always done cold chicken nuggets for a kids party/buffet. As long as they’re freshly cooked (ie not hours in advance) they’re absolutely fine for a buffet

I cook them as close to serving as I can (dependant on time) but won’t necessarily still be warm when I serve. Kids don’t care, they always get eaten.

mummydoris2006 · 26/06/2021 09:57

Never had hot chicken nuggets at a kids party and my DD is now 15. They were always served cold 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/06/2021 10:00

What is so difficult about serving food warm. I’m presuming this isn’t a massive party, Covid regs and all…

myfuckingfreezer · 26/06/2021 10:01

Does anyone really want a party tea now?

TheVolturi · 26/06/2021 10:02

I would shove the nuggets in just before you are ready to serve the food, they don't take much prep do they. Much better hot!
