Looks like we might need a new thread.

So you're saying it's OK then, even though he broke the rules he has been banging on about himself.

All I know is this... you can justify this pillock of a man all you like BUT if I was in that position of authority deciding what the general public have to do, there is absolutely no way I would be breaking any rule.

I on't care how long the affair has been going on. I don't care how many times he broke the rules. The fact, in his position that he broke them in the first place is enough for me.

Do as I say. Not as I do.
That sums it up

jgw1 · 26/06/2021 15:38

@Clavinova

I watched the interview of MH after Neil Ferguson was caught out.

That was over a year ago - I am nowhere near as cautious as I was last year. How long has Matt Hancock's affair been going on during Covid restrictions and how many times has he broken the rules? Without that information I cannot decide whether he should resign or not.

Really?

The fact it was over a year ago is irrelevant because the rules are the same. And Matt Hancock has at no point suggested that because it’s been going on a bit, people can start to relax when it comes to following guidance and/or rules. I don’t think it matters that some other people have broken rules, what matters is the fact that Matt Hancock has been one of the people telling people not to break them.
TSSDNCOP · 26/06/2021 15:40

He looks very very pleased with himself in that vid. The hand holdy swaying bit suggests this has been going on a while.

Who dobbed him in is irrelevant to me, it's time for him to fuck off now.

RhubarbCustardy · 26/06/2021 15:42

Cummings/H.Cock/BJ. You couldn't make it up if you tried.

Roussette · 26/06/2021 15:42

Of course it's been going on a while!

This is not a first chaste kiss. This is a full on arse grabbing snog.

So Clavinova he will have done this before. And I don't doubt hotel rooms or cupboards have been involved too

Blossomtoes · 26/06/2021 15:48

@Clavinova

Blossomtoes

Why do posters have to embellish the details - are facts not good enough then?

The facts don’t appear to be good enough for you.

I heard a guy on Any Answers this afternoon saying because Hancock made the rules he was entitled to break them. I have absolutely no idea what planet you or he are on.

Snog · 26/06/2021 15:50

So Hancock has made "an honest mistake" and said sorry and Boris says the matter is now closed.

In what way was this an honest mistake? He deliberately flouted his own rules.

The shocking thing is that despite 99% of the public wanting Hancock to resign Boris will ignore this as he did with Cummings and the Barnard Caslte debacle.

We are sleep walking ever closer to a totalitarian state.

Clavinova · 26/06/2021 15:51

Really?

Yes - I don't think I'm unusual - I haven't made up my mind yet.

YouGov Poll
Do you think Matt Hancock should resign from his role as Health Secretary or should he remain in his role?

Should resign 49%

Should remain in his role 25%

Don’t know 27%

CrazyCatLazy · 26/06/2021 15:54

@Feedingthebirds1

When Prof Neil Ferguson, a top scientist and advisor on Covid, broke the rules to see his mistress, Hancock was apoplectic. Called for the police to investigate, said it was absolutely right that Ferguson resigned, said that he was 'speechless' about Ferguson's actions.

That to me, more than anything else, is why he should go. I feel sick at that level of hypocrisy.

Came here to say exactly this! I haven’t seen anybody else referencing this which is the first thing that popped into my head!
Roussette · 26/06/2021 15:54

6,500 adults.

A drop in the ocean. And the majority say he should go.

So he should.

LucindaT73 · 26/06/2021 15:54

Please don't invent figures @snog.

The latest poll says it was 50-50.

49% is not a majority. You would need over 50%.

What would Matt Hancock have to do to convince you that he was utterly incompetent and completely unsuited to being Health Secretary?

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 26/06/2021 15:57

I’d just like to know where it all went so wrong that standards slipped like this. It’s not on. It’s not defensible. It’s a complete farce that these bunch of ingrates get to rule the country.

Roussette · 26/06/2021 15:58

Lucinda

You are splitting hairs OK, it isn't over 50%. 1.5% off then. Of 6,500 adults. Got you.

Vouch for him all you like, if that's your thing.

Snog · 26/06/2021 15:59

@Wheresmybiscuit3 so true

We are sleep walking ever closer to a totalitarian state.

He's having an affair with someone. He appoints her to a role in his office. Her salary is paid out of the public purse.

How can this, on this planet or on any other, be "an honest mistake"???

The posters on here suggesting that it is (not you, Snog) have a weird understanding of the word "mistake."

And the ones who are saying "Lots of other people have broken the rules too", fgs, get yourselves some semblance of a brain before it's too late. This man is not just Mr Average on the High Street, he is the Health Secretary during a global pandemic.

VodkaMargarineAndExplodingCarr · 26/06/2021 15:59

@Thewiseoneincognito

Anyone found what we’re being distracted from yet?
Ha ha. This made me laugh. There is a lot of negative press out there regarding Brexit lately, or probably some law change taking our rights away.

I said to my friend earlier today that I used to want to see the Thick of It back on our screens, but it is no longer required Grin. This government is a disaster and a laughing stock.

bollihigh · 26/06/2021 16:01

Clavinova reminds me of a twin set and blue rinse home counties version of this fella...

Roussette · 26/06/2021 16:01

Yes, the Health Secretary who showed outrage at a top scientist doing what he has just done.
A Health Secretary who has strained every sinew to tell us we can't hug our loved ones

And now a Health Secretary who is snogging his paid-for-by-us Assistant who he met at Uni and obviously fancied her, so brought her in to the Health Department of which she has no experience of... that Health Secretary, yes.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 26/06/2021 16:05

Any other laws people break frequently, MP’s would be expected to face the same penalties as anyone else, not be told they needed to be morally superior ie speeding.

We all know Covid rules and guidance could be tighter but we didn’t want police and passes to leave the house. Presumably he’s just snogging his wife and his mistress both of whom he sees everyday.. If he’s been snogging randoms up and down the country then yeah but he’s had Covid and had two vaccines. There’s little risk.

I think he should resign as a sign he’s listening to the people.

VodkaMargarineAndExplodingCarr · 26/06/2021 16:08

I feel bad for all the people who have been fined, or harassed by the police for having a coffee on a park bench or a walk that isn't 'local'. They have been treated like criminals, but our own HS gets away with snogging on the job and giving his mistress a plush job (how was she qualified for it exactly??).

We have gone from a covertly corrupt country, to a blatantly corrupt country that other nations take the piss out of. I don't think the current government gives a shit what they look like because they probably don't want to win the next election and want to hand a crock of shit over to the next government to deal with. That's why they are so desperate to cling on to their jobs and get the most out it while they can.

Clavinova · 26/06/2021 16:13

What would Matt Hancock have to do to convince you that he was utterly incompetent and completely unsuited to being Health Secretary?

Can you explain to me why Germany's Covid deaths have risen from 10,000 in October 2020 to over 91,000 now? Last year I was told that Germany's response was so good because Angela Merkel was a scientist. Keir Starmer was praising Germany's Covid App in the House of Commons. Clearly not so easy after all.

C8H10N4O2 · 26/06/2021 16:14

Oh do put a sock in it Clavinova. What would this shitshow of a government have to do before you stopped defending it?

I find the mental filter of /ignore is useful here at times. The braincycles are better expended on actual discussion.

This government could be caught on film with the cabinet taking it in turn to murder children and dear old Clav would pop up with a dozen posts about how it was [insert Labour politician's name here]'s fault and add a dozen random links from Google, complete with a paragraph copied into the post. On a good day there may be up to 5 words relevant to the subject but taken out of context.

I believe Tokyo is considering Whataboutery as a demonstration sport this year for the Olympics so a lot of advanced training and practice is needed.
