Matt Hancock affair

AIBU to be utterly peed off that another one of our Ministers - rather than devoting his time and effort to getting the country out of this mess - is busy carrying on with an aide (which he appointed at great expense to the tax payer) - aaaaaaag.

I’m in the minority of not giving a flying fig about politician’s private lives. Not a fig.

If they do the job well, then I’m happy

And I think Hancock has done a decent job considering the utter enormity of the task he faced.

This is not his private life though. It's an affair conducted at work, in work time, with a lobbyist he had known and been close to for a couple of decades before appointing her to a senior role. There's a reasonable argument that an affair conducted in his own personal time with someone completely unrelated to work shouldn't have an impact on his role, but that is not what this is. Nowhere close.

More terrifying than this shower of shit?! I don't share his political views but he does at least appear to a) have a brain, b) some sense of a moral compass and c) the ability to actually use both
TotorosCatBus · 25/06/2021 10:59

The gaslighting over PPE is a horrific kick in the teeth to hospital staff who struggled in wave 1. He should be thoroughly ashamed of those claims

shewalkslikerihanna · 25/06/2021 11:00

I cannot believe how many people are defending the man. People in care homes cannot even hug relatives; including a husband and wife. Yet here he is, bold as brass, breaking his own rules (c’mon this affair started before 17th May), his marriage vows and debatably ministerial code.

Rules in care homes as a reminder. www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-53503712

I bet there’s a lot of mask burning tonight and even less social,distancing now.

How can the covid marshals and covid police even attempt to keep law and order when the person at the top of the tree so flagrantly flouted his own roolz

Everyone will be ‘doing a wanksock’ and I don’t mean the cheating on their partner bit just the way he’s cheated the public

That’s the bit that’s hard to swallow
He’d stand there , looking all mealy mouthed telling the gullible public what to do

Remember the £10,000 fines ?

It’s definitely game over now!

Mrgrinch · 25/06/2021 11:00

Honestly I couldn't care less as long as he gets us out of covid restrictions.

DynamoKev · 25/06/2021 11:01

@ThanksIGotItInMorrisons

I just think most politicians, most people ‘in charge’ are liars cheats and/or thieves and nothing they do shocks me as I expect the absolute worst from them eventually.
I don't agree and IMHO expressing views like this is why there is no apparent ambition for things to improve. I certainly do not approve of the current lot of stinking corrupt liars we have in charge, and I refuse to accept we couldn't find any less venal candidates.
Pinchmybun · 25/06/2021 11:01

@Scaredycatmoo

* To all those posters who cite that it’s a non story/ private affair or they couldn’t care less really should be disgusted with themselves. *

Try telling that to the face of someone who has lost a relative, lover or friend in this Covid disaster. Look them in their grieving eye and tell them you don’t care. You don’t care about their tragedy, their loss, their now orphaned children etc. Cause that’s what you mean when you say these things.

I take it you didn’t lose anyone?
Because those have have had, I can tell you do not think that those who think it’s a non story also don’t care about our loss

Don’t be daft and simplistic

Well actually. I ‘have’ lost two people who were in my life for over 10 years. They were my ex’s grandparents who died alone two weeks apart alone without family getting the chance to say a proper goodbye as per Covid rules at the time.

I’m angry on their behalf and it does feel hurtful and raw even though they technically weren’t my family.

Trust me, their anger is real today. They feel utterly bereft.

Over the top to some. Simplistic to others. I don’t care about your cold blooded heart. So many out there have been devastated by Covid and all Hancock and Johnson care about is lining their pockets and getting their leg over.

Bloody hell, we really are brainwashed if anyone thinks a highly intelligent, decent guy with a moral compass is “terrifying”.

i don't care either

*But he is a power hungry maniac, see Hansard 30th January.

No point if an equally meglomaniac type comes in his place though, giving all the contracts to their mates.

I don’t even give a care what his motivations are and if power hungry.

For me it’s about delivery. I think he’s done a decent job in the circumstances

Private lives of politicians in my opinion are irrelevant as long as don’t break the law

All about delivery in my eyes

LakieLady · 25/06/2021 11:03

@LightasaBreeze

Looks like this was going on at the same time that he was banging on about we would soon be able to hug our family and friends, what a hypocrite
I'd bloody love it if he was issued with an FPN for breaching Covid guidelines. Grin

But if anyone was ever in any doubt that the Tories think the rules don't apply to them, it's pretty conclusive proof.

Someone on another forum suggested that Hancock was just following the guidance "eat out to help out". Grin

THIS THIS THIS!

Notonthestairs · 25/06/2021 11:05

So is the real story that MH has been funnelling contracts and cash to GC's family?

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 25/06/2021 11:05

@ThePlantsitter

I don't see why having an affair should bring him down rather than being shit at his job, lying about being shit at his job, and loads of people doing as a result of his being shit at his job. But our country is fucked isn't it so I guess that's why.
This. I don't give a toss who he fucks, as long as it's a consenting adult. I care massively that he is awarding contracts to his incompetent mates, and is generally shit at his job.
mangojango · 25/06/2021 11:06

AmyDudley · 25/06/2021 11:07

The point surely is not whether you consider affairs OK or wrong, not whether you think it doesn't matter as long as he can do his job, the reason it matters if you are an MP is that when you do something secretive and reprehensible you open yourself to blackmail and coercion and therefore possible unable to make decisions in an unbiased manner, because you have a career damaging secret to protect.
That's why it matters for politicians, anyone saying 'I don't care about his sex life etc' is missing the point entirely - it does affect or potentially affect his ability to do his job. And when your job involves the life or death of others, then you are unfit for purpose and dangerous.

TSSDNCOP · 25/06/2021 11:07

I would like to send a message of sympathy to Martha Hancock who is being doorstepped by the press today for something she didn't do.

CovidCorvid · 25/06/2021 11:08

@Notonthestairs

I think so.

I'm not so bothered about the sleaze/affair. That's down to him and his family.

I'm bothered about him breaking covid rules - we couldn't hug family members but he can hug/fuck some woman he's having an affair with.

I'm bothered about the corruption of him giving his bit on the side a job and public money.

I'm very bothered about him being distracted/having an affair in work time. He can't have been concentrating on the job as much as he should have been doing if he's conducting an affair in work time....

This would be bad enough normally but when there's a global pandemic and he's Health Secretary I think it's unforgivable!

Fangsalot89 · 25/06/2021 11:08

Another Tory minister only out for himself. Colour me fucking surprised.

Scaredycatmoo · 25/06/2021 11:09

@Mrgrinch

This

Don’t give a damn

I have no interest in whether people have affairs that I am not emotionally attached to.

Politicians, doctors, charity executives etc

Can do what the hell they like as long as doesn’t break law.

If they are not good at job - then THAT is what I judge them for
