AIBU to be utterly peed off that another one of our Ministers - rather than devoting his time and effort to getting the country out of this mess - is busy carrying on with an aide (which he appointed at great expense to the tax payer) - aaaaaaag.

From my Googling, it looks like everyone except the Churchill Estate believe it, with evidence presented in numerous newspaper articles. But it's all gossip years after his death. Maybe it happened, maybe it didn't but I don't think you can state he had at lest one affair, he might have had one affair seems more reasonable.

Like many people he did good things and bad but at least he didn't leave a tacky photo of himself snogging a member of his staff.

HolidayAtHome · 25/06/2021 09:49

Yep I dont buy it either. This suggestion seems feasible, especially since BJ has apparently never actually fired anyone (DC got massive payout to work from home)

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/06/2021 09:50

John Major and Tim Yeo too!

Power is an aphrodisiac for sure.

I find it unbelievable though that he should be caught on camera doing this within a work environment! Are we sure it's not a sting?

ancientgran · 25/06/2021 09:51

@earthyfire

The only people I feel sorry for is his wife and children. Can't stand his smugness.
And her husband and children.
Bonny00 · 25/06/2021 09:51

How did he become health minister, he has no. qualifications regarding medical field at all, ex jockey?

Then again could ask the same question about othrr ministers as well.

wowhie · 25/06/2021 09:52

we don't automatically assume any man who has an affair isn't capable of an important job.

Getting caught on camera at work is stupid.

Maggiesfarm · 25/06/2021 09:52

I hadn't heard about this but they are all human beings who have lives and feelings outside of their civic duties.

HolidayAtHome · 25/06/2021 09:52

I was replying to WhichJab about choosing the reason for his resignation to something non life/death related

Petalplucker · 25/06/2021 09:54
@Iwonder08 Part of this woman's job is to provide independent scrutiny of the DHSC. How can she be independent when she's shagging Hancock?
Exactly this! She should lose her job too.

CallMeNutribullet · 25/06/2021 09:54

I don't understand what's in it for her? Her husband is significantly more attractive and successful than Hancock and they're already loaded.

Willlowbanks · 25/06/2021 09:54

Man has affair. Woman also had affair. Big news. Not. Happens in every single office everywhere. Nothing to do with being a Tory, or Boris, or a politician. My ex had an affair, with a junior colleague. Every senior exec in his office was at it too. When I casually suggested I mention it to HR he laughed because the Head of HR was having an affair with the European Head of something or other, and the business didn't care. It was normal. No one lost their job. No one ended up on the front page of anything. I actually think there was a bit of a culture that expected it to happen. So yeah, whatever.

Hancock looks pretty stupid for many reasons now, but he is stupid so that's no big deal either. The only person I feel for is his wife, who despite what the media likes to spout is far from humiliated. She hasn't done anything to be humiliated about. Upset, depressed, angry - I imagine she feels all of those things. The people who should feel humiliated are Hancock and the woman. Speaking of which why isn't everyone going after the woman? She is married too, with kids. Does she get a free pass to behave badly because only men are bastards?

Backhills · 25/06/2021 09:54

@wowhie

Yes, but my point was about the assumptions made regarding her appointment, which presumably happened before she shagged him in work.
SueSaid · 25/06/2021 09:54

'Getting caught on camera at work is stupid.'

Yes. It really does reflect poorly on his decision making etc if he'd do this in plain sight.

SilenceOfTheNaans · 25/06/2021 09:54

And this would made DC WW?

No thank you Envy

IheartJKR · 25/06/2021 09:55
 • we don't automatically assume any man who has an affair isn't capable of an important job

That is EXACTLY what many of us are saying!

MH is not fit for his role and neither is the woman he was having an affair with.

angstridden2 · 25/06/2021 09:55

This government continues to confirm what I have thought from their election. They have neither personal or professional principles and the concept of doing the honourable thing and resigning for transgressions of any sort is alien to them;as long as they can cling to their positions they’ll face it out.

His lover is yet another ‘old friend’ who has been appointed to an advisory board/government body.I am not naive enough to think this never happened in the past, but this lot seem to have increased the nepotism hugely and don’t care if we ‘little people’ know it and that really upsets me.

wowhie · 25/06/2021 09:55

Yes, but my point was about the assumptions made regarding her appointment, which presumably happened before she shagged him in work.

But you see no conflict of interest? And presumably we have no idea when the affair started.

Sparklfairy · 25/06/2021 09:56

I've just seen this on Sky News: Hancock's appointment of university friend would have gone through 'incredibly rigorous' process

I can only imagine what such a 'rigorous' process would entail Hmm Envy

YoungBritishPissArtist · 25/06/2021 09:56

At least it was a woman his own age, not a 22 year old intern.

PinusSylvestris · 25/06/2021 09:56

He is clearly pretty stupid.
I'd sort of hoped I was being mean in assuming it from his general demeanor and performance at the podium!,😂After all one hopes for the best in a national crisis.

Alternista · 25/06/2021 09:56

@Francescaisstressed

His poor wife and kids. I do think this coming out is weird, definitely some people behind the scenes trying to take him down. His own fault though!
This, basically.

He’s obviously fucked up, and it must be awful for his family having to deal with thst in the spotlight.

I also think there’s a campaign to take him down atm, which does nothing except waste time, energy and money, all of which is in short supply. I wish DC etc would pack it in.

IheartJKR · 25/06/2021 09:57

Absolutely

Agree with this . She’s a talented clever lady . Lots of affairs go on all over the place . Daft being caught on camera tho
Cleverpolly3 · 25/06/2021 09:59

That desperate photo of him grabbing her backside with his little hand nearly made me vomit.

ScribblyBaller · 25/06/2021 10:02

For people who think affairs are a private business that's fine. What is worthy of looking at in this situation is that she was given a job based on her connection to Hancock. Ministers giving cushy jobs to the person they're fucking goes a bit beyond private business.
