AIBU to ask how come Britney Spears had an IUD fitted without her permission?

I mean, her father has had conservatorship for 13 years but an IUD is only valid for 5-10 years so could someone explain it to me? Surely it couldn't have been inserted without her permission?

@InTheNameOfAllThatIsHonest - I don’t have any periods with my hormonal (mirena) IUD and I think it’s been in place for over 10 years (doctor said it was fine as not used for birth control any more just very convenient to not have to deal with heavy periods).

Mrsjayy · 25/06/2021 11:22

follow her on Instagram and she seems to strange and disconnected from reality.

Personally I think somebody who had "worked "in entertainment their entire life been told what to do and say, might struggle with reality. Also her Instagram isn't her own I think it will be vetted.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 25/06/2021 12:06

That's the copper coil. The newer hormonal versions like Mirena tends to stop periods or reduce them.

vivainsomnia · 25/06/2021 12:47

don't be so ignorant, do you only form an opinion if you have all the facts and figures in front of you
An opinion is not an opinion any longer when people start talking about what is 'obvious', use string and emotional language and more importantly, accuse those who don't agree of being ignorant.

userchange8945 · 25/06/2021 14:10

@vivainsomnia in my opinion, you are coming across incredibly ignorant, an opinion. Excuse me if I get a bit emotional about the the exploitation of a young woman who has absolutely no self determination but is well enough to make £100 million for her guardians, I'm just a bit irrational like that I suppose. Perhaps you are happy to ignore it and declare there will be good reasons and we don't know the full story, because the world is just enough to trust the 'system', but I am not. And thankfully, others aren't either.

In stories such as these it's those who don't challenge the situation who are just as much to blame.

Orf1abc · 25/06/2021 14:32

@vivainsomnia When a woman tells a court she is being abused, we believe her. Because we're not arseholes.

AlternativePerspective · 25/06/2021 14:52

Ultimately though it’s all opinion on both sides.

People believe that she is being controlled/abused based on the information fed to them by the press, and others believe that there are two sides and that it should be down to those closer to her, esp her medical team, to make the correct decisions.

None of us actually knows the facts.

You abused me.

Believe all women.

It feels very off to me that people are citing her behaviour over the last decade as a reason why she should remain under her family's control. The conditions she has been living under would take a toll on anyone's mental health. I know people who have been in mental healthcare facilities long-term and some regression is normal because all their independence is removed. You can't treat someone like a child for over a decade and expect them to not be affected by it.

It's not normal for any adult to have to ask their father permission to change their kitchen cabinets (and be refused), let alone a multi-millionaire who is being refused access to her own money.

It's a fact that most people really dislike and resist having to change their opinion on anything, even when they never had an informed opinion to begin with. Especially when changing their minds means admitting something unflattering about themselves.

Mary46 · 25/06/2021 21:17

Where is her mother in all this. Sad situation. The poor girl.

Rachie1973 · 25/06/2021 21:25

@sparemonitor

Ah ok. So she's had it in for more than 13 years then? Isn't that medically concerning?

I'm not au fait with the whole story but on this issue no, not concerning. Every doctor who removes coils has their 'record' for how long one has been in. My record is a coil that had been in for 26 years when I took it out - post menopausal woman who had just never bothered to get it removed. She was fine.

Mines 13 years old now ;) strings have dissolved so it’s staying there!

Not so. The facts are that she has worked since she was a very small child, has been subject to appalling treatment by both those in the music industry and the press, never mind the decades of taunting, condescension and trolling by Jo Public, which quite frankly would mess with anyone's mental health, and has been controlled in all ways by a conservatorship. That is A-grade, legally endorsed abuse carried out in plain sight.

My mistake then - I have the non-hormonal one.
@Flippittyflopperty an IUD does not stop your periods.
They can. My Mirena certainly did.

Flippittyflopperty · 26/06/2021 17:34

Yes it stopped my periods too, which is what made me think if she’s being that controlled, she possibly feels like she can’t use the ‘excuse’ of her period to not want to perform and having it taken out would give her an ‘out’.

I just can’t believe she has lost the right to her own bodily autonomy. It’s so messed up.
If the family truly cared for her, they would keep her out of the spotlight and help her repair the damage done to her MH.
It looks as if she’s just worth more to them this way.

Definitely - and I also reckon that the possibility of her being a bit larger during the postnatal period would also be a reason for not allowing it to be removed.

Can't have the merchandise looking used, can he?
