AIBU to ask how come Britney Spears had an IUD fitted without her permission?

ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 24/06/2021 21:55

I mean, her father has had conservatorship for 13 years but an IUD is only valid for 5-10 years so could someone explain it to me? Surely it couldn't have been inserted without her permission?

@NotAnotherPushyMum

I think the concern is possibly around her becoming pregnant whilst she’s on the medications she’s taking, and that’s why it’s not as simple as ‘being allowed’ to have another child.
Ermm no, I think the concern is her not being able to make any money. All of them see her as a cash cow.
Conniethesensible · 24/06/2021 23:15

It’s so messed up beyond belief - I truly don’t think we’ll know the full horror and manipulation this woman has been through

In a lot of cases medications can be changed to safer ones if a woman is ttc

You can remove your IUD yourself, if desperate. The little cords are for removal, you can slowly but firmly pull on them, and the arms fold in by themselves. No special equipment, or anything. The tool they use is just to help them grab the strings.

I also hear Britney doesn’t have free access to the internet so I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t know this.

MouseholeCat · 24/06/2021 23:20

No way someone in her situation can consent to sex

So she can perform to crowds of thousands, memorise complex dance routines and earn millions but can't consent to sex?

SuperSleepyBaby · 24/06/2021 23:24

Is there any law like that in the UK to control people in that way with mental health issues?

👏🏼 👏🏼.
Mrsjayy · 24/06/2021 23:31

How can you be confused? She didn't say she was forced she said she wasn't allowed to have it removed. Although she could probably have been coerced, that poor woman I read the transcript earlier its just so tragic.

StressyWoman · 24/06/2021 23:39

I imagine if she removed her own IUD that’d be used against her? I definitely wouldn’t be able to remove mine myself, I can barely feel the string. She shouldn’t have to do it herself anyway.

U2HasTheEdge · 24/06/2021 23:41

@Unsuremover

No way someone in her situation can consent to sex. Really hard questions should be asked of who has had sex with her since she has been subject to an conservatorship. I can imagine why she hasn’t included details but surely that’s a question that should be asked.
Why can't she consent to sex?

And what is her situation? Too unwell to make any decisions for herself, unless it is performing and making daddy money?

None of this really makes sense to me, but I believe her.

If she is taking anti psychotic medication, that would explain the contraception. The studies aren't great in relation to birth defects. Some of the alternatives never been studied on pregnant women. In any normal situation a woman would be able to discuss this with her Dr and could plan to conceive.

Her pov and feelings need to be heard. She's been treated like a prisoner. To want to marry and have another child but not being allowed to must feel like a massive violation of her human rights. There was likely a need for this in the beginning. She had a breakdown, lost custody of her kids, had hardly anything left of her fortune. Now, all these years later while she's proved she has the mental capacity for everything else she deserves a chance. Her life must feel like it's wasting away. Having everything in front of her but not being able to touch it. It's really sad.

She didn't lose custody, the custody order was because her dad punched her kid.

Her whole story is so disturbing, it breaks my heart. I was a big fan of hers and I can't comprehend how someone as vulnerable as her could have been so abused and exploited by everyone around her, including her own family, in broad daylight for so many years and in 21st century. It is beyond comprehension. I hope she gets justice she deserves and that she won't be exploited by her current partner or anyone else when this is over.

XenoBitch · 25/06/2021 00:35

I have never had a IUD.. so it it bad for them to be in place so long?
This whole Britney saga just seems so sad and I can't believe she is going through this.

MouseholeCat · 25/06/2021 00:40

I don't think she's saying that it has been in for 13 years. She's just saying that at this point in time she wants it out but is not allowed to make that decision.

Zimmerframe123 · 25/06/2021 00:54

I pulled mine out

TheTuesdayPringle · 25/06/2021 01:07

The conservatorship covers her person, all medical included. She was probably drugged to have it inserted. Her father has basically been a very well paid and legally endorsed sex trafficker. The whole thing is beyond appalling and speaks to how abusive the patriarchal rule is.

Thatsmydaughterinthewater · 25/06/2021 01:08

I think there’s more to this situation than is apparent. Loads of celebrities have had public, well documented mental health issues and not been placed under a conservatorship.
I follow her on Instagram and she seems to strange and disconnected from reality.

MyBeloved · 25/06/2021 01:11

I absolutely believe Britney. I just hope she gets justice because so far, nobody has listened to her.

@Concerned2021

Ok confused by the person who is saying no way could she have consented to sex ?? Why ?
Because when you are assessing capacity to consent to something, you look at things like; does the person understand the consequences of their actions (pregnancy and STIs), do they know enough to manage the things around that decision (contraception), is their coercion or manipulation that they can't manage (bad boyfriends).

If their argument is that BS is so unwell she can't be trusted to make contraception decisions, doesn't understand enough to make a decision about a pregnancy, then chances are she doesn't have capacity to consent to a sexual relationship.

BTW I don't for a second think that's the case. But if they are arguing one, they need to consider the other.

Moonwhite · 25/06/2021 01:35

It's quite possible she acquiesced to a lot of things over the years the way abused women often do, because they think it will buy approval and better treatment from their tormentor/s.

But also, her "team" have been stating that she has dementia when she sounded perfectly lucid in the tape recording. If she was on lithium and her father communicated with doctors on her behalf, who knows?

Surely the conservator-ship must be done now. It's going to cause outrage if they renew it again. One meltdown 14 years ago (apparently K-Fed wouldn't give her the kids because he said they caught lice at her house, and that's why she went out to get her head shaved and then freaked out at the paps) and she's been kept like a hostage ever since. It's inhumane.

Moonwhite · 25/06/2021 01:37

no way could she have consented to sex

Someone under a conservator-ship is someone who can't make even the most basic decisions to keep themselves safe. Britney went on tour and recorded songs. We all know what this is. Extreme financial abuse by her grasping family.

Crabbypaddy · 25/06/2021 01:39

As a mental health nurse, using the mental health act in my working life daily, this is barbaric. Contraception is a personal choice you cannot ethically force contraception on a person. As for people saying how unwell she was/is to merit this conservatorship does recovery not happen? I’m so glad I don’t live in America as their law system with regards to mental illness is so backwards. Poor woman, hope she wins her case.

Crabbypaddy · 25/06/2021 01:41

With regards to her medication I saw she is on lithium, this isn’t recommended for pregnant women or women trying to conceive as there is a risk of birth defects but she should be offered alternative medications/treatments not forced by her fecking dad, a male with no clue about contraceptions, to have a coil kept in her bloody body!! I can’t believe there are people saying this ok wtf Hmm
