I went into John Lewis earlier and tried all their beds (I am in the process of moving home) and I tried a mattress that blew my mind away. I can’t get over how heavenly it felt to in. It felt like I was sleeping on a cloud. DP said he wouldn’t mind spending so much on a mattress if we keep it for a decade and we haven’t really spent much in the last 18 months anyway. What’s the most you’d spend? Blush

£2100 Naturalmat Superking splendid pocket sprung with terrific topper.

Worth. Every. Penny.

Teenagers2grownups0 · 21/06/2021 20:35

Ours was £1,000 Hypnos king size. We ended up having to buy an Eve mattress topper for about £150ish for it as we had back ache after a couple of weeks. Sadly 15mins in John Lewis wasn’t enough for us to really tell.

CliftonGreenYork · 21/06/2021 20:36

I have a £1000 mattress that I got for £200 (I work for john lewis and it was a display model. Prior to this I have always had 'cheap' mattresses. This is now 7 years old and its still the best thing I have ever bought. I sleep so much better on it. www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-natural-collection-swaledale-wool-11400-king-size-medium-tension-pocket-spring-mattress/p4287158

Ours was 2k originally but got some money off it in a sale. It has a cool gel topper which is lovely to sleep on. Also my side is medium and DH’s is firm as per our preferences.

AtillatheHun · 21/06/2021 20:37

Whatever a Hypnos hybrid in the correct size and level of firmness is. Natural fibres (sleeping on chemical fume releasing artificial foam which makes you hot - not for me).

Blueskytoday06 · 21/06/2021 20:38

£1000 but it was super king. I bought a £300 king in the Argos sale and it's just as good.

LifeIsAMotorway · 21/06/2021 20:39

Whatever I could afford. Current mattress is £450 and I’ve had for about 8-9 years. I couldn’t afford more than that right now for a replacement but if I had the money, I’d definitely spend 6 times that.

billy1966 · 21/06/2021 20:39

£1,600 about 15 years ago.

It is still perfect and super comfortable.

kowari · 21/06/2021 20:40

An £100 car would have cost me a lot more in four years. My mattress is just as comfortable as when I bought it and I sleep perfectly well. If I paid more then I don't know what I'd be paying more for. I just like a flat, firm, sprung mattress with no pillow top or similar.

Sorry, meant to quote *@gurglebelly*

Given that I would be sleeping on it for at least 90% of nights for many years, I would spend whatever it cost to get the mattress I wanted. There are some things which you shouldn’t economise on. Tyres and mattresses being two of them.

DGFB · 21/06/2021 20:42

3-4K! Vispring. But would choose a great mattress over other things

Starbonnet123 · 21/06/2021 20:42

We bought a silent night super king hybrid mattress costing around £1000 after about 12 months it sagged and never regained its shape , we've had it about 3 years now and even when the bed is made you can see the sagging .
I'd never buy a hybrid mattress again I feel like I have to dig myself out when I want to turn over its way too soft .

Roselilly36 · 21/06/2021 20:43

£1350 memory foam, 12 years old, not a dip in it. Worth paying out for a decent mattress.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 21/06/2021 20:43

I spent £600 on a superminis Simba.
It was about 1k but I got Blue Light discount.

I can't afford to spend a grand on a mattress.

Plus it has warranty for 10 years and I had 200 nights to love it or send it back, refund no questions asked.

Justgonamless · 21/06/2021 20:44

We spent £1000 - it was a super king from bensons. Both me and my husband had sore backs. We couldn’t afford a new one but we decided to get a cheap one from Argos about £400. The cheap one is so so comfy and we’ve had such good night sleeps since.

HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst · 21/06/2021 20:46

I've never noticed any difference in the way I sleep on any mattress I've ever slept on, so I'd never spend that much on one, would be a complete waste of money. What defines a decent mattress? Surely if you sleep well on it, it's good enough.

I also do wonder what can possibly be so different in the £2000 to the £5000 one. Imagine spending that much money and not getting the best sleep of your life!

Soubriquet · 21/06/2021 20:46

Sorry OP but how much?!!

NameyNameyNameChangey · 21/06/2021 20:47

absolutely as much as I could afford to pay.
Mattresses and shoes are never worth doing cheaply.

Slippy78 · 21/06/2021 20:48

As much as you can afford.

finallymightbehappening · 21/06/2021 20:49

I spent £2.5k nearly 10 years ago. My bed still feels like new and I hate hate hate staying away (even in nice hotels) as it just isn't as comfortable. I think double what your budget on a sofa would be is about right as you literally spend a third of your time in it.

HedgeVeg · 21/06/2021 20:49

Is there a significant difference between a £2k mattress and a £6k one though op?

finallymightbehappening · 21/06/2021 20:50

Mines a super kind vispring one.

ShakespearesSisters · 21/06/2021 20:50

I'm not sure how we came to terms with the cost but we have just got a tempur cool touch (great for perimenopausal night sweats so far). Its was a superking and £2300. I'm loving it.
