To wonder if this Zara model is a healthy size?

Most models are tall and slim but something just made me stop and look at these pictures for longer, wondering.

Is it just photoshop?

Her face, shoulders, neck and chest look healthy. She just has extremely long thin limbs I think.

SingingInTheShithouse · 21/06/2021 20:45

Urgh 🥴

She’s designed to look anorexic and probably is.

You are missing the point, some women & girls are just naturally built that way & you are thin shaming those who are & are telling them that they are not okay. You need to have a serious word with yourself.

P0lestar · 21/06/2021 21:00

No I don’t and won’t be thanks. Her knees are the widest part of her legs,Zara really shouldn’t be allowed to advertise like this.

secsee · 21/06/2021 21:09

It’s be not all about you. Woopy do you’re skinny. My dd is skinny as are many other teenagers many of whom are battling EDs. The world and his wife knows young girls want to emulate fashion pics. Retailers have a responsibility. They could have used another model.

Literally just responded to your comment [about disbelieving thin people here]. Nobody on this thread even disagrees that there should be more diversity?

Looubylou · 21/06/2021 21:09

First picture, her legs make me wonder, as does her face/head. I was extremely thin in my teens and twenties but very healthy and very fit - I ate enough for 2 men but you'd never have known it. Mind you, if I ate that much now, 30 years later, and much less active, I'd be morbidly obese.

secsee · 21/06/2021 21:11

Thin people click the thread same reason that parents of teens with EDs do- because of the title.

Anyone can dispute anyone's 'credentials', why only people you disagree with?

TatianaBis · 21/06/2021 21:15

@Namechangeme1

Obesity is the worlds biggest killer - certainly kills more people than anorexia does. Honestly, how overweight and obesity is being glamorised these days is mind blowing to me.
I actually think that wall to wall images of slim women contribute to obesity via the promotion of unobtainable ideals that make people feel shit and contribute to seesaw diet/binging and comfort eating.
TatianaBis · 21/06/2021 21:18

Making thin a sin, is just as bad as fat shaming. Not showing slim models alongside every other size of model, is not the answer as it shames girls, women & men too who are naturally slim. That's not okay anymore than fat shaming is.

Who’s making thin a sin they’re just commenting that this particular model is overly thin whether by nature or by photoshop.

No-one has said there shouldn’t be slim models simply that they predominate.

OlympicProcrastinator · 21/06/2021 21:19

She looks completely fine to me.

Namechangeme1 · 21/06/2021 21:26

@TatianaBis seriously? I think fast food and inability to have willpower is more to blame than thin women

I agree with those who think this thread is a bit nasty and judgmental. I was a model once, a long time ago, and looking back my legs were extremely thin. I was very young and I hadn't grown into myself, and I was painfully self-conscious about my 'skinniness' and lack of boobs. People outside the industry were always making unsolicited 'concerned' remarks about my weight and I hated it. I once googled myself and found a weird online discussion board about models in which my appearance was critiqued by strangers. No one commented on my weight in that particular instance, and thankfully I wasn't prominent enough to warrant much comment at all, but the nastier remarks stuck with me. Imagine if the poor girls in those pictures and they are real girls, probably aged between 16 and 20, with real anxieties about their appearances were to stumble onto this thread and see all these comments about their freakishly long limbs and sick appearance. Yes, the fashion industry has a problem. No, saying a bunch of mean stuff on public messaging boards about individual models isn't a great way of dealing with it. They're teenagers. Leave them alone. If you're really concerned about advertising and its effects (and I don't disagree that we should be) you should write to the company and complain about it.

P0lestar · 21/06/2021 21:46

No thanks the health of teenage girls matters more. Given the prevalence of eating disorders in the industry I doubt very much said model looks like that naturally.

What is that supposed to mean?

Sinthie · 21/06/2021 22:04

Would it be acceptable to scrutinise a larger lady’s body in such a way?

40yearoldmerging · 21/06/2021 22:07

Yeah I was looking at a plus sized model and thought the exact same thing- irresponsible... oh wait, no.

TatianaBis · 21/06/2021 22:23

@Namechangeme1

There is so much more to obesity than willpower and junk food.

RoseAndGeranium · 21/06/2021 22:25

Cool @P0lestar , write to Zara and say you’ll be boycotting their products. But I find it really hard to see how writing unkind things on a discussion forum about a young girl of whom you in fact know nothing and who may or may not be suffering from an eating disorder reinforced by her workplace is going to help anyone. None of this is the fault of the girls! Have some compassion for them.

DeflatedGinDrinker · 21/06/2021 22:28

She is very small. Smaller than me when I had an eating problem as a teen.

P0lestar · 21/06/2021 22:40

It’s not unkind to point out knees shouldn’t be the biggest part of legs or when somebody looks unhealthy.

SingingInTheShithouse · 21/06/2021 23:01

Errr, in your ignorant opinion & yes, it's incredibly unkindHmm

I repeat, some girls are naturally built this way & are not unhealthy. Our friends daughter is exactly that & she is a professional model. She is extremely healthy, just very tall & slim & she eats plenty.

There's nothing wrong with her anymore than there is the plus sized model shown in a PP. what's wrong is the industry is still too focused on minority shapes & sizes, predominantly tall & gazelle like, but also some plus sized. It needs a lot more of everything in between & far more evenly spread, so there's something for every teen to aspire to. Not the predominantly unobtainable to most images we all see atm
