"why bark myself when I can buy a dog to do it" (I know he got it all a bit mixed up btw).
He came home from work early (7pm!!!) last night so I could go out with a friend. Upon entering the house he asked me what he was having for his dinner. I asked him if he knew where the oven was. He said "why bark myself when I can buy a dog to do it". He claims it was a joke.

yanbu

OrmIrian · 21/11/2007 13:32

No. It wasn't a joke. Jokes are funny.

weebleswobblemoreonboxingday · 21/11/2007 13:32

Here, have a pick axe - so much more efficient than a shovel in circumstances such as these.

CloudAtlas · 21/11/2007 13:33

my point exactly OrmIrian.
Many Thanks for the shovel harleyd, can I give it you back for a quick rinse when I've done with it?!

no. you are not being unreasonable. here, borrow mine.

Dottydot · 21/11/2007 13:34

theUrbanDryad · 21/11/2007 13:35

you should've said, "Why would I stay at home for burgers when I can have steak out for free?"

that would've confused him

bossykate · 21/11/2007 13:35

YANBU. My dh claimed to crack a joke last night too. I asked him if he minded me helping at Guides and he said, 'as long as you can pick the lock between you and the cooker, you can do as you please, my sweet!'

oliveoil · 21/11/2007 13:45

oh ignore me, I think I am having a sense of humour failure

I just think if it said "beat my wife with a shovel" you would have got roasted alive

DaDaDa · 21/11/2007 13:59

YABU. You knew what you were doing when you married Jim Davidson.

claricebeansmum · 21/11/2007 14:01

Does he watch "Lead Balloon" - this joke was on it last week...is he trying to be funny?

Hekate · 21/11/2007 14:13

Well, you'll love this..

The other day someone cut in front of dh and he said, "pah, women drivers" so I said "Oh, of course, terrible. How dare they leave the kitchen?" to which he replied, no, they can drive....the school run and the supermarket."

Then to make matters worse, he thought it would be funny to drop into full on 'wind-up-my-wife' mode and he said that this is why most accidents happen in supermarket car parks and at school run time - it's the high concentration of women drivers

me
him

Shock
Iota21againAndMum22boys · 21/11/2007 14:17

funnily enough I use the phrase "you don't buy a dog and bark yourself" on my dh quite a lot

( he'd never heard of it before I used it on him - sheltered life obviously)

Elizabetth · 21/11/2007 14:20

YANBU.

Did he cook his own dinner?

kindersurprise · 21/11/2007 14:23

My DH listened to me complain about my busy day on Monday.

8am Take DS to kindergarten
8.30 Take DD to speech therapy
9.30 Take DD to kindergarten
12.15 pm Pick up DD from kindergarten and take her to swimming class
4pm Pick up DS from kindergarten
6pm Cook tea
7.30 Go to French class

In between this, I washed and ironed the clothes (and MNetted)

DH said, "Well, it is all self made stress though isn't it?"

Can I have the shovel back?

CloudAtlas · 21/11/2007 14:47

All yours kinder!! Glad it's not just me!

Elizabeth, well he cooked (?) some spaghetti and heated up some bolognaisse from the fridge, which was 5 days old!
