Inspired by the recent thread about places with a strange vibe - which places have you been with a good vibe?

Some I can think of:

Bognor Regis and the surrounding area, in fact much of West Sussex

Frome

Warminster and the nearby villages

South London

Scotland West Coast and North Coast

New York City - love its energy

Southampton

Hawaii.

I lived there as a child and I remember the feeling of excitement when I would get back home on the plane after visiting family - the warm evening air, the pink and orange sunset, the smell of fruit and flowers.

Such a beautiful place.

Liverpool, beautiful city and friendly people.

Bologna, Italy
Tel Aviv, Israel
Reykjavik, Iceland
County Mayo, Ireland

(Guess I love countries beginning with I...)

Ubud, Indonesia
Isla Mujeres, Mexico
Bass Coast, Australia

Why does West Sussex get all the love?

I'm in East Sussex and never had any bad vibes from any of the towns or villages I've been to (unlike dp I wasn't born and brought up here so no local bias).

East Sussex to me feels weird and oppressive, hard to put my finger on it but as if something bad has happened or is about to happen, especially the area around the Kent border. A27, Lewes, Uckfield, Chailey etc all a bit off.

West Sussex to me seems sunnier and 'lighter' , especially on the South Downs and coast e.g. Bognor Regis, Chichester, and even in the more built up inland areas.

Hay on Wye
Southwold
Aldeburgh
West Bay

Camomila · 21/06/2021 07:32

Garmisch-Partenkirchen is my favourite place name. It's so fun to say. I've never been there but my dad likes to watch ski jumping on Eurosport and they have a lot of races there.

Pinkmagic1 · 21/06/2021 07:43

Funny that a few people have mentioned North Norfolk. I feel very calm and peaceful whilst there. Also get good vibes from Whitby.
Abroad, Luxor in Egypt and also Marrakech.

LakieLady · 21/06/2021 08:05

Bridport. Don't know why, but whenever I've stopped there all the people seem friendly and helpful but in a laid back sort of way. It just has a really nice feel about it.

Ross-on-Wye and Ludlow have a similar atmosphere, too.

You might not like it as much if Eton College get planning permission to build 3,000 houses at East Chiltington, just a mile or two to the west of Chailey/Cooksbridge, @olidora63!

A development of that size, where there are only small villages/hamlets, will really change the character of the area. And god knows what it will do for traffic on all those tiny roads.

Blimey. My dad lived there for a bit and I would have said the complete opposite. Definitely wasn't the place to go with a small child: it was the sort of place that had signs up saying "no kids" in the coffee shop but that improved once Costa opened (I bet they hated that, but they needed it to shake things up) and then a non-chain coffee shop too. All the B&Bs were the sort that either had plastic sheets or didn't accept kids or wanted compulsory 2 night stays.

TheVanguardSix · 21/06/2021 19:39

How can I neglect mentioning the West Coast of N. America? From my home state of California up to Vancouver (particularly Victoria Island), it’s the best.

Mouseorchestra7 · 21/06/2021 23:09

East Sussex (esp. Hastings) (I get a weird vibe about West Sussex when I go there in opposition to others on this thread! :))
Vienna
Madrid
Liverpool
Lucca
Rome
Atlas Mountains

roseetsoleil · 23/06/2021 11:39

Yes, the countryside round there is gorgeous - and some of it part of the South Downs national park. Eton College should be utterly ashamed. Trying to raise money (as if they need it!!) by selling off land to developers who would completely decimate the area. And also somehow claiming that this plan would 'increase biodiversity'!!? Not an educated or truthful claim....just pure greed.
