Inspired by the recent thread about places with a strange vibe - which places have you been with a good vibe?

Some I can think of:

Bognor Regis and the surrounding area, in fact much of West Sussex

Frome

Warminster and the nearby villages

South London

Scotland West Coast and North Coast

New York City - love its energy

Southampton

@CounsellorTroi were you in Skye recently? I've found it very stressful in the past few years because it's just so crowded.

Totally agree with Liverpool (which was unexpected) and Reykjavik/Iceland.

I would add Vantaa (Finland) and Bristol to the list.

Tangled22 · 19/06/2021 08:27

Agree with PP who said Canterbury. I know it gets very busy (with students/tourists) but it’s just such a happy, lively place. Especially in summer with everyone sitting outside of restaurants in the sunshine. And beautiful architecture too.

Fontainebleau in France... the forest, the palace, the town, the countryside around. I first went there in my early 20s and I go (pre covid) yearly with my family to stay in a farmhouse outside the town, in the middle of nowhere. I think it's my favourite place ever, where all of me aligns and clicks into place.

Chebeague Island, Maine... I spent my summers there as a youth. My aunt lives there. Glorious place.

West Wittering. If I could afford to pack up and move there, I would. I just adore it there.

Lisbon- What a city. I just love it there. Everything about it is just perfect to me.

Chichen Itza, Mexico. I did a road trip across Mexico when I was 20 (for work, so it wasn't all free and easy and chilled... it was a photo shoot in and around Mexico). I'd always loved Mesoamerican history, especially as a kid and teen, so to finally stand on top of Chichen Itza and look across that vast, ancient terrain was a real moment for me. This was 30 years ago. I hope it hasn't changed much.

JaninaDuszejko · 19/06/2021 08:45

I grew up in one of the places mentioned and while it's very beautiful I left because living there has many disadvantages. While it might have 'good vibes' for a tourist in July because they are on holiday and it's different from their usual existence it wasn't quite the same in November for a bright child growing up who didn't fit in to a very traditional community. Both myself and DBro left as soon as we could to live in a big city.

ChocOrange1 · 19/06/2021 09:13

Thats funny, I found Bognor Regis very strange. I was expecting a quaint seaside town, like St Ives or Lyme Regis but it was practically deserted and the shops were all Poundland and Polish Supermarkets. The park was nice though. Maybe its because we came in April, so not in the busy season.

I really like Edinburgh, although have only visited during the festival so I expect that contributed to the good vibes.

Also Thorpeness in Suffolk, which is a tiny village but so cute and old fashioned with a lovely beach.

Boston, Massachusetts

St Kitts, especially the stunning coast road with the waves crashing onto the beach. Wild and beautiful.

Poole area, loved the coastline nearby around Kimmeridge and Dancing Ledge.

@Haudyourwheesht I am actually on Skye right now! In past years we have always visited end July/early August and it is busy then. But it is quieter at the moment. I always feel replenished after a trip here.
