Due to sensitive skin I cleanse my face using Simple Micellar water and Simple eye makeup remover. In the morning I apply Simple Face wash and rinse it off in the shower. This is followed by No7 toner, Nivea Q10 eye cream and Q10 moisturiser. I don't use face masks much as they tend to irritate my skin and give me spots Hmm

Makeup wise I use No7 light reflecting foundation and No7 under eye pen concealer, a slick of No7 sensitive eyes mascara, a dab of No7 loose powder and little brush of No7 bronzer - I use a cherry colour bees wax lip balm for a hint of colour.

I think the products I use are gentle and are calming to my skin but a friend said today that all the products I use are actually shit to use her own word!Shock. She recommended all these ridiculously expensive products that she knows I can't afford and tbh I don't know if they're that good anyway!

What do you use or recommend I use?

@Gwenhwyfar definitely. I use the verso retinol eye serum and have seen a big change with that which I didn't see with other eye creams
My prescription has niacinamide and azelaic acid in too
No wrinkles but I'm 38 and blessed with good genes and being fat helps

PawsQueen · 18/06/2021 15:46

This is the acid I love, it's effective but doesn't make my face fall off
Tend to go cheap for cleanser and moisturiser and expensive on serums/treatments

@Gwenhwyfar You can alternate between the two of you want, I just find the glycolic is a little more effective. I use The Ordinary glycolic toner, it’s fantastic and very reasonably priced.

Is that a Skin & Me presciption by any chance? They seem to give everyone the same combination. They even gave DD and me exactly the same 'prescription' despite us having completely different skin and obviously decades between us. I changed to buying tretinoin from a pharmacy.

PawsQueen · 18/06/2021 16:08

@LesRosiers yes, I used dermatica first but to no effect so I swapped over to skin and me. Have used OTC Spanish tret before which didn't work for me either! Fussy skin

cupsofcoffee · 18/06/2021 16:10

I use water in the shower and wear sunscreen on sunny days.

That's it.

Lachimolala · 18/06/2021 17:24

Where is everyone getting their tretinoin from? I want to try it but I thought you needed a prescription.

jay55 · 18/06/2021 21:30

Wash my face with water in the shower.
Put on drunk elephant b hydra serum and c firma serum and kheils creamy eye cream as I sit at my desk.
Use under eye masks every couple of weeks and a sheet mask now and then.

My skin is on the dry side and reacts to random products randomly.

I'm "lucky" with my skin as I have EDS which gives me an excess of collagen. Downside is the sprains and dislocations, upside is that I look ten years younger than my actual age.

Morning: I wash my face then use a Charlotte Tilbury foundation (can't remember the name of the one I use) and some concealer under my eyes if I need it (depends how well the DC have slept!), little bit of bronzer, and some mascara.

Evening: I wash it off with soap and water, moisturise with some Nivea Q10 and jobs a good 'un.

CaptainBarbossa · 18/06/2021 21:40

Morning

Cleansing milk and a flannel x2
Face wash for oily skin on oily areas only
Make sure it's all removed thoroughly.
Squeeze out flannel so it's almost dry, then use it to dab on a little toner
Moisturiser with SPF included

All garnier products except the moisturiser which is Nivea.

On mornings I'm in a rush I just use the cleansing milk with a flannel and follow up with moisturiser.

Night

Micellar water and a slightly damp flannel, followed by eye cream and night cream (Nivea)

namcybotwinbloom · 18/06/2021 21:47

Wash my face in the shower with either just water or shampoo that runs off my hair.

Nivea, the one in the blue tub when I remember about three times a week.

I buy from an Andorran pharmacy. You don't need a prescription because of their rules, but it is prescription strength and will work (there are countless papers on the effect of tretinoin), you just need to give it time. They sell a range of strengths.
Dogoodfeelgood · 18/06/2021 21:55

The Ordinary and Paula’s Choice are excellent, lower cost choices (not budget budget but probably the cheapest you can find with effective ingredients in them). If you have sensitive skin it’s important to avoid anything scented. And use chemical exfoliants rather than physical.

Roominmyhouse · 18/06/2021 22:00

I’m 39 with no wrinkles but the odd teenage type spot! I also wash my face in the shower with a simple face wash and the use Nivea q10 moisturiser with sp15. At night I use miscellaneous water to cleanse and the just use a Nivea moisturiser (one in a big white tub). I’ve used more expensive products over the years but I honestly don’t find it makes any difference. I do the off scrub and mask here and there but I do drink loads of water!

Dogoodfeelgood · 18/06/2021 22:02

My routine:

Morning

  1. Gentle wash with a small amount of Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel (expensive but lasts ages)
  2. some sort of ordinary serum - I have a few and randomly mix them up as can’t quite remember what each one is for but did my research at the time and feel I need all of them! eg hyaluronic acid for nice plumbing if going out or amino acid (can’t remember effect lol!)
  3. Dermalogica spf eye cream
  4. the ordinary hydrating cream
  5. Nars tinted moisturiser SPF as makeup base then rest of makeup

Evening

  1. proper wash with warm flannel and Dermalogica special cleansing gel to get makeup off, nivea eye makeup remover if any mascara still sticking around
  2. again a mix of ordinary serums/glycolic acid
  3. Bobbi brown eye cream for under eye (so lovely)
  4. the ordinary hydrating cream
purpleben · 18/06/2021 22:11

I wash my face with Simple face wash then pat dry with a hot cloth. I then use The ordinary toner followed by a few drops of Ellipsis Labs squalane oil, let that soak in then finish with Boots Ingredients Hyaluronic Moisturiser. Couple of nights a week I replace the squalane oil with 0.5% retinol rosehip seed oil. I'm 47 and only started all this at beginning of year because my skin was so dry and old looking. I'm not sure if I'm doing all this in the correct order but I've definitely noticed a difference, my face is glowing, softer and more hydrated so I'll stick with it for now.

purpleben · 18/06/2021 22:13

Just to add I also use boots ingredients caffeine eye cream, only just started this and not really seen any difference up to now.

secular39 · 18/06/2021 22:17

@flippertygibbit

I'm a horror - I wash my make up off in the morning with whatever handsoap sits next to the sink then reapply makeup. That's it. I am 49, I have no wrinkles, fab genes though!
Bar soap is not good for the face...too acidic
secular39 · 18/06/2021 22:27

I'm a skin care nerd.

Your friend is talking peanuts.

I would use simple miscellar gel wash or CerVae hydrating cleanser.

Actives: (depending on what you want to tackle eg, acne, hyperpigmentation, anti aging). I would always incorporate a niacinamide. Paulas choice do a niacinamide 10% booster and the ordinary.

Anti aging: Retinol... Paulas choice do a 1% or 0.3 percent retinol. I would opt for the 0.3% as retinol can be irritating.

Vitamin C is mixed as it's unstable and goes off quickly. There are good ones out there but very few.

And then you can use the CeraVe moisturising cream followed by SPF.

Please watch Dr Dray on YouTube re.skincare. She is sneezing

You do need to fork out more the actives. But the ordinary do good stuff at affordable prices.

Do not listen to the posters who don't do anything but I wash their face with water and a bar of soap! (Good lord) or the ones that are telling you not to bother. They have little to no idea about the anatomy of the skin

RitaTheGreeter · 18/06/2021 22:29

Bar soap is not good for the face...too acidic

Most soap is alkaline, not acidic.

therocinante · 18/06/2021 22:30

Morning: wash with water, Vitamin C (The Ordinary), moisturiser (Beauty Bay oat night cream, I've got thirsty skin), sunscreen (still trying to find the perfect one, using Gruum atm)

Evening: hot cloth cleanse (using Aldi's at the moment), oil cleanse (Superfacialist Vit C), niacinamide (usually the Revolution one because I like the texture), alpha arbutin (The Ordinary), moisturiser (Beauty Bay again), oil (Boots' hemp seed).

Plus 2 cups of spearmint tea a day.

My cystic acne prone and scarred skin is the 'best' it's ever been - i.e. no active spots, well hydrated, scarring's fading.

nolongersurprised · 18/06/2021 22:32

I have good skin (I’m 47) and until recently I pretty much just rinsed it off in the shower and put sunscreen on in the morning (with moisturiser). Into my 20s I had the occasional spot and quite oily skin and a dermatologist told me I’d age well Smile.

But - my 13 year old daughter is 4 weeks into tretinoin for her acne and after googling I have been using it too and it’s amazing. My skin actually glowing and a few slightly pigmented spots are evening out.

My daughter’s skin is looking much better too. She had a purge after 2 weeks but once that settled down there was a obvious improvement.

Dove Beauty bar in the shower in the morning

Cheap moisturiser at night
