Due to sensitive skin I cleanse my face using Simple Micellar water and Simple eye makeup remover. In the morning I apply Simple Face wash and rinse it off in the shower. This is followed by No7 toner, Nivea Q10 eye cream and Q10 moisturiser. I don't use face masks much as they tend to irritate my skin and give me spots Hmm

Makeup wise I use No7 light reflecting foundation and No7 under eye pen concealer, a slick of No7 sensitive eyes mascara, a dab of No7 loose powder and little brush of No7 bronzer - I use a cherry colour bees wax lip balm for a hint of colour.

I think the products I use are gentle and are calming to my skin but a friend said today that all the products I use are actually shit to use her own word!Shock. She recommended all these ridiculously expensive products that she knows I can't afford and tbh I don't know if they're that good anyway!

What do you use or recommend I use?

Oh and I mostly use Pixi or La Roche Posay and stock up from wherever has them on 3 for 2 or another decent special offer at the time (between Boots and the big online cosmetics places they’re almost always on offer somewhere!)

ScottishNewbie · 17/06/2021 22:38

Evening:
Double cleanse with Vanicream cleanser.
Thin layer of Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentrate.
Tretinoin from Dermatica.
Wait 30 mins
Lightly pat face with damp hands.
COSRX Snail Mucin 96
Vanicream moisturiser.
Thin layer of Aquaphor.

Morning:
Cleanse with Vanicream.
Thin layer of embryolisse.

The Vanicream products last forever and aren't too expensive. They are very, very gentle as my skin is super sensitive and breakout-prone.
I'm still trying to find a good SPF so won't recommend one here.

Oooh, must give this a try Smile Where do I get this hyaluronic acid serum and retinol - any particular brands?

MaMelon · 17/06/2021 22:41

Crossed posts - off to look at Pixi & La Roche Posay. Thanks Smile

I’ve finally found a routine I like

Morning
Liz Earle cleanse and polish
Medik8 press and glow
Inkey list vitamin c &egf
Fenty skin hydra vizor SPF 30 or Lacura day cream

Night
Cleanse and polish
Lacura night cream

AledsiPad · 17/06/2021 22:51

I have quite recently discovered Nip+Fab thanks to MN. I have suffered with acne for over 20 years (I’m only early 30s, can’t remember what it’s like to have normal skin tbh), and this is the first thing I’ve found that somewhat tackles it and seems to be reducing my scarring.

Morning:
Nip+Fab foaming face wash to cleanse, I use an Aldi sonic face cleaner to apply this.
Rinse, then wipe with daytime glycolic pad.
Nip+Fab fix serum
Nip+Fab post-glycolic moisturiser (which contains SPF).
I then use the Aldi/Lacura BB cream, which also has SPF & Aldi knock off YSL concealer. I have my lashes tinted and lifted so don’t bother with mascara often.

Evening:
Nip+Fab face wash
Nip+Fab extra harsh nighttime pad
Nip+Fab serum
Aldi avocado eye cream

One a month or so I use the Nip+Fab foaming face mask which goes all bubbly and is really odd.

I also get regular dermaplane facials.

I’m really conscious of my skin and it’s taken me a long time to be confident enough in it to ditch the permanent heavy foundation. It has definitely helped, but I am also currently battling a really painful breakout around my mouth/chin. Cheers to my period for that. Hmm

TensmumT · 17/06/2021 22:51

I use my baby's aveeno oats baby wash, pure delight! I also regularly apply kefir milk as a mask, it honestly did wonders to my bumpy postpartum, breastfeeding skin. As smooth as its ever been!

TheTeenageYears · 17/06/2021 22:52

Possibly a bit strong but your friend isn't wrong about most of those products. I use Cetaphil gentle cleanser straight onto dry skin, remove with hot wetted towelling pad, reapply and rinse off in the shower. After shower dry face and apply a hyaluronic acid serum and then moisturiser & eye cream (Hada Labo - Japanese, available on Amazon).

user1473878824 · 17/06/2021 22:54

I usually use the Oskia gel cleanser, in the morning (expensive) Drunk Elephant vitamin C serum, moisturiser. At night cleanse, Drunk Elephant oil, moisturiser; sometimes an AHA.

I’ve been doing Skin&Me for a week so now just cleanse, moisturiser, Heliocare gel SPF, cleanse, Skin&Me, moisturiser. And it seems pretty good. And far cheaper.

noblegreenk · 17/06/2021 22:56

AM - use a L'Oréal fine flowers rose cream cleanser and wash it of with a clean warm flannel. Pat face dry. No.7 protect and perfect advanced serum and eye cream. Then I use a facial spf50, let that soak in whilst I have a cuppa and then apply a tinted moisturiser and the rest of my makeup.

PM - use the same cleanser to remove my makeup, rinsing with a warm clean flannel. Apply no.7 protect and perfect advanced serum and eye cream. Then apply the ordinary 0.5% retinol in squalane (I only use this 2-3 times per week). Then I finish with protect and perfect advanced night cream.

Once a week i also use Ren glycolactic face mask.

DappledThings · 17/06/2021 22:57
  1. Every other day wash face with sulphur soap which allegedly helps with rosacea
  2. Look in mirror. Realise rosacea appears bit worse or bit better than previous day and this appears to be totally random and unrelated to any other factors
  3. Shrug
  4. Move on with the day

Aged 42. Genuinely don't know if my skin is in good condition or not or if I have more or fewer lines than other people my age or anything else. Can't bring myself to care!

takingmytimeonmyride · 17/06/2021 23:04

When I have a shower I use Boots tea tree and witch hazel exfoliating face scrub. That's it.

I don't wear make up (for sensory reasons)

On sunny days I'll stick some sun cream on,though I hate that also because of the aforementioned sensory reasons.

Getawriggleon · 17/06/2021 23:13

I had one of those beauty advent calendars last year so using up as many of those products as I can. Can't say anything makes much of a difference! I always use a separate facial SPF though, got to protect that skin.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 17/06/2021 23:15

Your friends wrong. I've spent so much money on skincare products, I struggled with acne throught my 20's using products that I spent £50-100 per product.

I tried washing with just water or water and soap and got really dry skin and still had breakouts.

What I found worked best for my skin is:

Morning
Simple face wash
vitamin c serum
moisturiser (a simple one with rosewater is the only one ever not to break me out)
suncream

Evening
Balm to remove make up
no7 clay cleanser
serum
moisturiser - simple

Shelovesamystery · 17/06/2021 23:38

I have sensitive, oily skin. I can't use simple, everything I've tried from their range makes me feel like my face is on fire.

AM: cetaphil cleanser, cetaphil moisturiser, spf50 (one from amazon called altruist. I think I need to try a different one tbh, it's very greasy. When oh when will my hunt for a non greasy spf that doesn't irritate my skin and doesn't cost a fortune end?!)

PM: cetaphil cleanser, skin and me treatment, cetaphil moisturiser.

I got the skin and me treatment on a trial offer and had to keep going with it because it made such a big difference. Its £20 per month which is way more than I'd usually spend on skincare but its like bloody magic.

I used to wear a full face of makeup but now that my skin is good I just do my eyebrows and put mascara on.

Lollipity · 17/06/2021 23:55

I wash my face in the shower once a day and then in the morning stick on suncream and mascara (41).

I drink quite a lot so presume that has a negative effect on my skin.

I did buy a collagen face mask last week which felt lovely and slimey, but am pretty sure that it has had no effect on my face at all.

Lisarinnaslipss · 18/06/2021 06:48

I have dry sensitive skin but have finally found a routine that works for me

AM
Wash face with lukewarm water
Revolution cica serum
Revolution moisturiser for dry skin
Nuxe F50 sun screen

PM
Emma hardie cleansing balm
Revolution collagen serum
Photon mask: red, green and blue lights
Revolution gold elixir serum
Weleda skin food

Twice a week I use a NMF aquaring sheet mask

Mummadeze · 18/06/2021 07:02

I have a shower in the morning so just use a bar of imperial leather soap to wash my face. At night I take my make up of with a simple face wipe. I sometimes remember to moisturise after that and if I do I use First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream which is really good for sensitive cream. I tried a couple of eye creams but think they made me look more puffy. I am 47 and have good skin but giving up drinking alcohol last year has also helped with that.

FirewomanSam · 18/06/2021 07:42

Lots of people using Cetaphil cleanser here, might have to try it! My Simple face wash is the only part of my routine I’m not sure about. I do like a foaming cleanser though, somehow I find it more refreshing than the creamy ones.

I used to wash my face in the shower but then someone told me water that hot isn’t good for my skin, so I stopped and now wash it in the sink before I get in.

doadeer · 18/06/2021 07:59

Using a wipe isn't very effective for your skin. Much better to have oil based to break down make up

thepeopleversuswork · 18/06/2021 08:02

This does sound like PR.

I'm sorry to say this because it may sound unkind but IMO there's an inverse correlation between the amount of time and money spent on skincare and the actual appearance of the skin. People who spend vast amounts of money on this don't ever look better than people who follow the basics.

Clean your skin properly without using something too harsh
Moisturise properly -- the older you are the more you need.
Drink water
Don't smoke

It's really as simple as that. The rest is marketing.

BrownEyedGirl80 · 18/06/2021 08:12

After shower I moisturise then apply make up after its soaked in.
At night I take make up off with micellar water and eye make up off with baby lotion.
Apply serum then night cream then a facial oil.

tealandteal · 18/06/2021 08:18

My skin is oily and not sensitive so I won't recommend specific products. I also love washing my face in the shower though! Everything I use comes from face theory and their prices are reasonable and products effective if you do want to check them out. If you don't use an spf as part of your morning routine I would add that.

OhWhyNot · 18/06/2021 08:23

I always wash my make up off at night sometimes with soap or a face wash abs eye make up with sensitive eye makeup remover (I wear quite heavy eyeliner)

I use vitamin e oil on my face at night and whatever moisturiser I have at the time usually for dehydrated skin and if a little greasy witch hazel

I’m 49 very soon have very few lines. Both parents have good skin I think it’s genetics (and I’ve spent lots of time in the sun)

I have friends that spend lots of money on products have had Botox and fillers and still look older you can’t change nature without it looking obvious

YouWerePrettyIWasLonely · 18/06/2021 08:48

I use sunscreen every day. Never wear make up. I'm in my 50s and get mistaken for younger quite often.
