Due to sensitive skin I cleanse my face using Simple Micellar water and Simple eye makeup remover. In the morning I apply Simple Face wash and rinse it off in the shower. This is followed by No7 toner, Nivea Q10 eye cream and Q10 moisturiser. I don't use face masks much as they tend to irritate my skin and give me spots Hmm

Makeup wise I use No7 light reflecting foundation and No7 under eye pen concealer, a slick of No7 sensitive eyes mascara, a dab of No7 loose powder and little brush of No7 bronzer - I use a cherry colour bees wax lip balm for a hint of colour.

I think the products I use are gentle and are calming to my skin but a friend said today that all the products I use are actually shit to use her own word!Shock. She recommended all these ridiculously expensive products that she knows I can't afford and tbh I don't know if they're that good anyway!

What do you use or recommend I use?

Also for makeup, I’m really enjoying “ La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+ Unifiant” at the moment - stupid name for a Tinted Moisturiser. It’s great for the work from home/wearing masks 2021 no makeup look. Works well with a well hydrated face.

Although I wear a shitton of mascara too, always have.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 17/06/2021 21:37

I’m not going to post my routine because these sorts of threads always descend into sneering at people who use nothing but water on their faces.

Please remember that what works for you will not for someone else. It can be really upsetting for people with skin conditions to read that it’s ‘their fault for putting all those chemicals on their faces’. If nowt but water works for you then great but if I tried that I’d be one giant spot.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 17/06/2021 21:38

*who don’t use. I’m too tired to type right this evening Blush.

isettled · 17/06/2021 21:39

Morning
Cerave salicylic face wash
The Ordinary Lactic acid
Moisturising toner
Hyaluronic acid serum
Cerave moisturiser
Factor 50spf

Evening
Eve lom cleanser (to remove makeup)
Cerave gentle cleanser
Dr jart cerimide serum
Cerave moisturiser
Facial oil

Every second night I use my skin and me treatment which has tretinoin, azeliac acid and niacinamide

For a gentle physical exfoliator I love dermalogica. But a lot of people prefer chemical exfoliators

letitgogogo · 17/06/2021 21:44

Honestly half the time i fall asleep with my make up on.

General routine

Boots own brand face wash in the shower

Micellar water

Grum sun screen (which was a free tester Grin)

Make up is cheaper brands like loreal true minerals, slightly more expensive estee lauder concealer, bit of Benefit, No.7, Rimmel

My skins fine, only thing I've noticed makes a big difference is botox which i will promptly be getting once I've stopped breastfeeding

Whysolong7 · 17/06/2021 21:45

Sensitive skin here too.

Morning - liz Earle hot polish face wash and flannel. Around £22 lasts ages (really ages)
Lacura caviar day cream Aldi -£6.99

Evening - lacura night cream £6.99

Sometime some rose hip oil (trilogy £20)
Sometimes boots No 7 serum

The rose oil makes an unbelievable difference especially for sensitive or patchy skin, scars or marks but I mainly use it because it makes me look 5 years younger and glowing next day - even after a night out.

44 no wrinkles but I am all over the sun block as soon as the sun is out.

Kiwiinparis · 17/06/2021 21:47

I tend to go a bit overboard with my skincare but hey each to their own!! I am one of the ones who only use one ridiculously priced skincare range (think 50-100 per product) but it works so well for me. I had bad acne in my early 20s and this is the only thing that completely cleared it up for me - don’t even have scars anymore!

Morning:
Vitamin C cleanser
Prebiotic toner
Vitamin C Glycolic serum
Eye cream
SPF - every single day

Night
Probiotic cleanser
Prebiotic toner
Moisturising serum
Moisturiser
Retinol night cream

It may seem like a lot and but I’ve been told I look like I’m still in my early 20s (fast approaching 30 here)

mamawithfive · 17/06/2021 21:48

I have sensitive skin so for me it works best not to use too much.

I use the dove beauty bar morning and night, and every other morning I also use a garnier cleansing gel wash.

Moisturiser morning and night.

Live abroad so sunscream daily.

I'm mid 30s now so wondering if I should be using some kind of eye cream now.

If I use any face masks etc they just irritate my skin and cause breakouts!!

PawsQueen · 17/06/2021 21:48

Am
Boots botanics all bright cleanser
Vitamin c serum
Moisturiser
SPF 50

Pm 1 (this is 4-5 days a week)
Eye makeup remover
Balm/oil cleanser
Skin and me prescription retinol
Moisturiser

Pm 2
Eye makeup remover
Balm/oil cleanser
Deviant acid toner
Hydrating serum
Moisturiser

Dobbyisahouseelf · 17/06/2021 21:55

Boots no 7 protect moisturiser with spf15 every morning with a light foundation.

I cleanse and tone every night and use the Elemis range plus one or two no7 protect serums. I particularly like the Elemis skin buff to exfoliate the face and use this twice a week.

Misty999 · 17/06/2021 22:03

Wash face with water at night, repeat in morning olay moisturiser with spf. I have Sensitive skin also most products dry and irritate I don't even use soap. May use a gentle wetwipe if I have lots of makeup on that doesn't get washed off with water.

The ‘face under water’ people are lucky.

It’s more about ingredients and formulation than cost - plenty of good stuff on the market that’s not costly.

I use stuff that costs £5 from supermarket and serums in excess of £40 and stuff in between.

If you’re happy then you don’t need to change anything.

If I don’t double cleanse for 3 days i breakout. As I have today. It is what it is - that’s my skin.

shouldistop · 17/06/2021 22:14

I use grape seed oil and a hot cloth to clean my face at night.
In the morning if I'm not doing make up (most days) I use aveeno positively radiant moisturiser/ spf 30 with a drop of body shops drops of sun mixed in.

Metabigot · 17/06/2021 22:22

Bit of a skincare junkie

Use an oil or balm cleanser in the morning (dermalogicavor darphin)followed by origins mega mushroom toner followed by origins ginzing moisturiser.

Evening I use micellar water and makeup remover, followed by origins night a mins and verso eye retinol serum.

Once a week drunk elephant baby facial and macula oil.

Mushybananas · 17/06/2021 22:25

I washed my face with soap and water for about 25 years because my mum did that and she always looked really young for her age even though she smoked etc. Anyway, didn’t work for me and I wish I had followed a skin care regime. I’m following one now, to try and slow down the ageing process! It’s a basic one but more than soap and water!

Quaggars · 17/06/2021 22:25

Splash self water.
Make sure anything I do actually use has no parabens in it.
Huge problem and allergenic but is absolutely bloody everything.

Quaggars · 17/06/2021 22:25

is in absolutely bloody everything that should read

MaMelon · 17/06/2021 22:29

Wash with shower gel or soap in shower
Aldi Q10 moisturiser with spf 30
Blusher if wfh, foundation and blusher if going into the office

Clean with a facial wipe or wash with Simple gel thing
Aldi Q10 night cream

I probably need to overhaul it a bit seeing it written down like that, but it seems to do the trick - I don’t look too bad for 52

FirewomanSam · 17/06/2021 22:30

I wash my face morning and evening with a Simple micellar face wash.

Mornings I use vit c serum, eye cream, moisturiser and SPF.

Evenings I alternate between a glycolic acid toner+a thalidomide acid serum, or a retinol serum, plus eye cream and night cream.

Sounds like a big faff but it took me far longer to type that out than it takes to actually do it all! I never used to be a ‘skincare’ person but my skin was starting to look really dry and dull a few years ago so I started to look beyond my usual quick dab of Olay!

FirewomanSam · 17/06/2021 22:31

Oh ffs, hyaluronic acid serum not thalidomide! I already corrected that once but guess autocorrect insisted on changing it again. What a weird autocorrect!

MaMelon · 17/06/2021 22:31

This is like another language! What do these things do? And what brands do you use?

MirandaMarple · 17/06/2021 22:34

Any soap, lather in shower, rinse off. Use soap over the sink to remove eye make-up before bed. Also use flannel and soap for a better wash now and again. Sometimes a cheap facial scrub to keep pores clean. E45 or Nivea cream as a moisturiser.

FirewomanSam · 17/06/2021 22:36

I’m no dermatologist so take everything I say with a pinch of salt, but my rough understanding is:

The toner is a mild exfoliant so it helps get rid of dead skin and help the newer skin cells shine through, which makes my skin brighter

The hyaluronic acid serum is super duper hydrating, basically! A good whack of moisture to keep my skin plumped up.

And retinol is basically the magic anti-aging potion which boosts your collagen levels or something.
